I am new to DYI so for my first attempt, (wanting to keep it simple), I got some TFA 555 Type DK tobacco flavoring from WizardLabs and added it at a 5% ratio to 24mg 70/30 base.

I mixed this on November 25 and used a heated ultrasonic jewelry cleaner to stir the mix, 4 times for 30min each time the first day, then once every other day for 30min for the next week. I then left the cap off in a cool dark closet for 24 hours.

When I tried it, it tasted musty, kind of like old wet grass or something.

I read through the DIY forum and ran across a thread that suggested adding a few drops of apple cider vinegar. I tried that and although there was a change, it just didn't work for me.

Letting it sit for another week hasn't improved the flavor.

So, my question now is, any suggestions for correcting this or is the TFA 555 Type DK tobacco flavoring just not that great?

TIA for any helpful advice.

Yours is the type of problem I wish I had a solution for. The problem is that I have no experience with any type of 555 flavoring. I've had some experience with other tobacco type flavors and know that, for me, I always start off at 0.5% flavoring (1 drop per 5 ml fluid from MY pipette, which is 40 drops per ml). Too much flavoring is always harsh and unvapable.
Also, tobaccos always take lots of aging for me. The jewelry cleaner should speed thing up from weeks to days.
Good Luck and let us know what happens.. it can potentially help lots of people

I typically find most tobaccos too strong for me and use them at 1% or less. What I do is thin them down to a 10% working base.

Mix 1ml of the tobacco flavoring to 9ml of pg or vg. This will be your new tobacco base at 10%.

When you put in .25% in the calculator for the flavor in a 5ml batch and it comes out to .0125ml that is pretty difficult to measure even with a 1ml syringe. With the 10% dilution you would measure .125ml which is much easier.

This is how I use the 555 and DK
