It could be simply that they don't agree with you. I get the same odd chemical taste from most (but not all) tfa.
That's what I originally thought too, but separately they taste really good. I tasted each in a 10 MIL batch, well most of them, and they tasted fine. My recipes also tasted fine until I added the NIC. The VG/PG/NIC tasted fine until I put all the ingredients together. I just can't figure this out.

between here and there
I'm chasing my tail on this. I mixed the VG/PG/NIC and the chemical taste was not there. I mixed a 20 MIL batch of three different saved recipes, without NIC, and the chemical taste was not there. So I made all three at full scale with NIC @ 5 MIL. The first one has the chemical taste, it is not anywhere near as strong though. I made these recipes @ 70/30 VG/PG with between 26% and 30% flavor. I haven't tried the other two yet...I will hopefully get a chance to later and post that finding...I just wonder if there is some kind of reaction going on between the NIC and the TFA flavors? Surely not!

You went from using 10%( in one of your post) to 26-30%????? No wonder they taste chemically. I am surprised you can taste anything at all.

This is just another indication of you can not rush these flavors, but need to allow time to come into their own, at a much lower %. I think 10% is a bit much myself, but each of us is different. Well, if nothing else you are getting a rush course in how to and how not to mix ejuice.

@ 10% the chemical taste is way worse. At 30% the chemical taste is way less. I have made juice at 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 26, and 30% trying to get rid of the chemical taste. The more I use, the less chemical taste there is.

Yeah, that blog might help ya. Another sign of too much flavoring is less flavor. Keep upping it and you may get to no flavor.

Somewhere in ECF there's that blog by that Hoosier guy. He has been mixing for less than a decade, so take his advice like the newbie he is.

I went to that guys blog. He doesn't have too much posted so it should be easy to read through! LOL! I am on my phone in the app, but I will absolutely try to find that on my computer or by going through Google Search.

But really, that is ...-backwards, tho may be momentarily true. Take it from the members here who have been using these flavors for a long while. That is if you want to be successful.
And 'that guys' blog......hint.....look at the username who posted it.

Duh..LMAO! I mean don't take me wrong, I'm still very new, but I have been mixing for a little over a year and a half with a lot of success...apparently lucky!

When I started I was just guessing "this" flavor sounds good with "that" flavor. I mixed without looking for any recipes online. When I started using recipes I found online, some worked OK, but most didn't.

Also, this being exactly what it is, subjective, it will be difficult for anyone to taste, or know they are tasting, the same thing I am. I made a grape bubblegum that everyone I had given it to loved. I did not like it. Tasted flat to me. The funny thing is everything that tastes good to me, everyone else loves even more. TFA flavors are clearly more difficult, or at the very least different, to work with, at least for me. I had CAP flavors to start and the second recipe I made was a Pinup Marylin clone. Almost spot on with the first attempt. I have not been that lucky with TFA flavors.

When I started this post, I really didn't know what to expect. I knew it was a subjective taste issue and I was thinking I would be shunned, but the amount of help and suggestions I have received is amazing. Everyone is so willing to give their input and I really appreciate all of it.

The reason I went so high up on the flavor is because of something I read in Bill's blog, which was a suggestion earlier in this post. I will say this, the more I shake this recipe and continue to vape it, the chemical taste is gone as far as I can tell. I open the bottle, squeeze out the air a couple of times, then shake it. I even switched to a different flavor for about 30 minutes then came back. I can't taste the chemical taste anymore. Not sure if that's good or really bad![emoji45]

I hope I find time to go read "that guys" blog! LOL!!!

Are you game for trying a small experiment...to see what you taste in a recipe compared to what someone else tastes? I have a super simple 3 flavoring recipe that many on here have made and have said is great in their opinion. I make it for myself and for a neighbor who absolutely loves it. He just had me make him another 120mL of it this past weekend. I'd be curious to find out what you taste...compared to what my neighbor and I taste in it.

Do you have these 3 TFA flavorings - Strawberry Ripe, DX Banana Cream, and Cotton Candy?

No, I sure don't. I haven't ever found a banana that I like, which is strange because I like bananas. But I sure would have tried it if for no other reason than the experiment!

Every time I try to click on those links, they lead me to a dead end. It's because I'm in the app. BUT! I just found the "web view" in the upper right corner drop down menu! Yes! I just read your 8 steps! Thanks!!!So....I wonder if diluting is an option at this point?!

Dilution is always an option. Pull some out of your current mix and try it. Always helpful to try multiple different ratios whenever possible.

(Tapatalk messaging doesn't work for me. I cannot reply to them.)

@Nightowl007- IMO, there's nothing wrong with TFA flavorings, nor with getting them from Wizard Labs. I have in excess of 140 flavorings now, and 120 of them at least...are TFA that I've gotten from WL. I've had no problems with them in general.

I know the Strawberry and the Juicy Peach both definitely have ethyl alcohol in them. There may be a couple others on your list, too, but I'd have to doublecheck them on the WL website to be sure.

Letting it evaporate off is no big deal really. I just shake the heck out of the bottle of DIY I've made, and then leave the dropper tip and cap off. Put it somewhere it won't get knocked over for a few days (2-3 at most for mine) and shake it several times a day during that time. When the EA is gone, you'll have a very smooth, non-chemically taste to the eliquid.

Most of my recipes I make ARE shake and vape! The only ones I don't vape right away are the ones with EA and a few that have custard in them. The custard ones I just use my little Norpro Deluxe Cordless Mini Mixer on them ($7 on eBay) as soon as I make them. (One of the little attachments easily fits down into the little opening on the 50mL and 100mL bottles I make my eliquids in.) Leave them alone for 3-4 days at most...and they're great! I won't make anything that takes longer than that.
As I said before, I read your post and ordered that mixer. It came in today. Wasn't supposed to be in until Saturday! I opened the package and was very disappointed at its size. I thought there is no way this will work, but after I put batteries in it, I was VERY surprised by the amount of power this tiny little thing has! Wow! Is all I can say! Thanks for the information JCinFLA!!!

JCinFLA, I have the following flavors if you can suggest something from these. I am interested in your experiment if any of them will work. I have a few others that I know are not TFA, but these are all TFA (I think!). If they are not all TFA, most are. I also have super dark cappuccino, super dark double chocolate, and several more like blue raspberry cotton candy, plain cotton candy, butterscotch, caramel original, tutti fruity, a couple of different watermelon...I can get you a full list with brands later.

Strawberry
French Vanilla
Pineapple
Almond
Grape Candy
Juicy Peach
Marshmallow
Sweet Cream
Blueberry Extra
Cheesecake Graham Crust
Coconut Extra
Peanut Butter
Honeydew II
Watermelon
RY4 Double
Rainbow Drops
Dragon Fruit
Maraschino Cherry
Smooth

I'll check through my recipes and see if any of them can be made with just a few flavorings above, to keep it simple. I'm almost positive something can be!

I'm trying to avoid using anything with EA in it right now...just to see if maybe that's what causing the chemically taste to him. If he had Strawberry Ripe and Peach (which have no EA in them), instead of Strawberry and Juicy Peach (which both do have)...we'd be in business for 1 recipe I have.

I'm leaning toward maybe working with a few of these in a combination yet to be determined: Pineapple, Sweet Cream, Marshmallow, a tiny bit of Coconut Extra, and Cotton Candy, since he doesn't have Sweetener. But, I want to do a few 100DT on them first, to find some good % that will balance well.
