The 510 Multi-Pack trick

I started out last year with e-cigs for me and my wife. The wife quit 2 days after starting on e-cigs (after 27 years on analogs). That's great! But that's not what this post is about...

After quite a bit of research, I started out with Joye 510s. They work really well with the PCC and folded blue foam mod, and we've used them very successfully with both pre-mixed and home-mixed juice.

My first order was for a 510 PCC kit + a 5-battery Multi-Pack + a 5-atomizer Multi-Pack. Out of all that, 1 battery (from the MP) and 1 atomizer (from the MP) were bad. Since nobody puts a warranty on the Multi-Packs, I was out of luck. DOA and no hope of a replacement.

Later on, I ordered 2 more Multi-Packs of manual batteries and 2 more Multi-Packs of atomizers. From a different vendor. Out of that, 2 DOA batteries and 2 DOA atomizers. Must be coincidence, right?

A bit later yet, I wanted to get some 510s in black (to avoid the "are you smoking in here?" problem associated with white ecigs). So I ordered a Multi-Pack of black manual batteries and a Multi-Pack of black atomizers. 3rd vendor. Can you guess what I got? Yep, 1 DOA battery and 1 DOA atomizer! And of course the vendor doesn't warrant Multi-Pack items.

Joye clearly marks all Multi-Pack batteries and atomizers with "MP". While the Multi-Packs seem like a great deal (20% off the normal price for 5 items), it is my belief that each Multi-Pack is intentionally packed with 4 working parts and 1 non-working part, and that's why they aren't covered by any warranty whatsoever. The "great deal" isn't really a deal at all.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'd really rather that Joye would be honest and sell their items at full price than try to trick customers into thinking they're getting a good deal when they're not.

its not joye that denies the DOA warranty, its the suppliers you ordered from.

I guess that I've just been blessed by the Vape gods. I've bought battery packs from 3 vendors. Atty 5 packs from 2 vendors, Two with the thick gold bands and one without. I always test everything I buy. All batts and attys are fine. I have really only taken 3 attys out for use. The rest tested and put away. Like I said I have been blessed. Now if only I would get great juice from every purchase!

It's a well-known problem. It would certainly seem that more people get at least one dud in every multipack than don't, though that could be because people who get duds are a lot more vocal about it. Whether it's an intentional trick to sell off known-bad or sub-standard (factory second) parts is anybody's guess. It is pretty damning that none of the suppliers who offer multipacks will guarantee them even against DOA, even though they all guarantee single items. They're clearly aware that, for whatever reason, multipacks carry a higher risk for failure.

No names. The vendors I bought from all stated "no warranty" on Multi-Packs, so it's my fault for buying them from those vendors. But all Multi-Packs were Joye brand.

After reading the other thread that candre23 pointed me to (thanks!), I will say none were from TW, though I have gotten juice from them before without issue.

Janty multi-packs also have a 24-hour warranty against DOAs. Also, many multi-packs do not contain any DOAs.

I'd also check again next time - it's occasionally called "no warranty" but there is still a 1-3 day return option for DOAs.

Yep, you're correct. Their site says, "Liberty Flights can only guarantee atomizers for a 14 day period." -- works for me! Interestingly enough, they also say, "The atomizers in our 5 packs are the same as the atomizers we sell as singles."

I wish they sold multi-pack batteries also! I've placed numerous orders with Liberty Flights. What about the vendors that wouldn't guarantee their products even for a day? I won't be back. As I said before, it's my fault for not heeding their disclaimers, but I never expected a 20% failure rate. Live and learn.

This brings up a thought... Over the years, I know of two types of goods that often come with no warranty whatsoever: used goods and refurbished goods. Perhaps factory rejects would fall in there somewhere...

If you're open to ordering in bulk from China (to get free shipping anyway), Health Cabin genuine brand atties have a six month warranty! (Some styles may be three months but most six I think.) Having to ship any rejects back to China would of course not sound feasible normally, but in this case you can set aside any that were DOA or failed during all those months then send them all back at once.

That's good to know! I'm hoping it will be a bit before I need more batts & atties, but I'll keep them bookmarked. I think I am going to split my e-cig bookmarks into 2 groups: Safe and Risky -- it'll make future purchases safer and easier. And I'll keep my eyes open for the "No warranty" disclaimers just in case one of the Safe guys gets nasty and changes policies.

Just want to add to this: I recieved a fairly large order from Janty Europe today. It contained 2 MPs of eGo batteries and 4 MPs of TAWA atomizers. (Obviously, not just for myself, that stuff.) As Janty offers only a 24-hour warranty on MPs, I have checked each part right away.
Not a single DOA among them.
