Perhaps some explanation to my situation is in order. :(

As some of you may know, I lost my job 2 months ago. I'm 59, with over 30 years working as a surgical assistant in the operating room. Since my release I had been receiving unemployment compensation for most of this time, which was 1/3 of what my take home pay had been. It was enough to keep up with some monthly bills and other expenses. I've applied to all the jobs at the local hospitals and no one has even given me an interview.

My former employer appealed to unemployment compensation, who had determined that I had been released for unjust cause and therefore eligible for unemployment compensation. My former employer just won their appeal. Now my unemployment has been stopped, and I've been ordered to repay what they have already paid me. Well, of course I don't have that money, it went to the expenses of daily living while I looked for new employment. Since I've also been living on savings, that money has become nearly dried up. I realize that I will not be able to pay my next months rent or monthly utilities, so I understand that I will have to give up my apartment and most of my possessions, as I have no money for storage fees.

I have found a part time job which begins tomorrow, but it is barely more than minimal wage which will only be enough for gas and food. This could soon expand to full time with higher pay. I'm still wondering where I will live if I stay in Cincinnati. I do have family out of town, and could go live with my brother if worse comes to worse. I'm just trying to stay afloat here in Cincinnati and somehow make things work out.

Thank you BadTrainDriver and everyone else for your current efforts, it's much appreciated. I've never been one to ask for charity for myself; I've never needed it before. It's been my pleasure to be a positive influence for this fantastic forum. Here's hoping for better times ahead.

Baditude, you don't have to thank me. You thanked me by providing all the great information on this forum, and this is my(our) way of saying thanks!

If anyone wants to help, PM me. Include your phone number or email address, and I will be in touch.

Until I hear yes or no from the admin, I will not start a dedicated thread.

Thanks,
Matt

I thank Baditude and I've only been on here a little bit. I've copied his gear and listened to his advice and it has helped me from bailing on vaping - I was getting so annoyed with the gear I had. I'm fact, I'm using a gripper with a 15mm Ibtanked halfling setup straight from one of the pics he shared, and freaking loving it. So..... Thank you

OK everyone, I have heard back from the Admin, and they will not allow a dedicated thread asking for help for Baditude. While they are sympathetic of his situation, they asked us to realize there are probably hundreds of members that are unemployed and in need, and wanted us to think about how big of a mess this forum would be if everyone asked for help. We all know that Baditude is not the average forum member, and it shows by the amount of PM's I've received from members wanting to help.

So, with that said, please do not post anywhere else about helping Baditude, and do not bump this thread.

I'm sorry it has to be this way...but the forum has spoken, and we need to respect that.

Thanks

Matt

What's real unfortunate, is Baditude's story is becoming more and more commonplace these days. Older gentleman with all the expertise and experience in the field gets tossed aside to make room for individuals that "cost less" to perform the job. Then if they find a new job in their field, it takes forever. Most of the time they're not even considered for employment because of their age. This is of course compounded by their prior pay scale. Employment prospects see or hear the pay scale and immediately abandon the idea of employing the individual without even a thought of what that individual might bring to the table or that they might just be happy to get the job even if it means taking a salary cut. Sure as hell beats working at Wally World.

Hopefully things work out for you, Bad. Damn sure wish i could help out. Unfortunately, i'm struggling myself. I offer only empathy at this point. Rest assured, though. You certainly deserve whatever you receive. Hold your head high. There's nothing wrong with getting what you deserve and need when you have to. Often that's hard to swallow.

Thank you beckdg. I agree with what you said. I've certainly entertained the thought that I have been discriminated against because of my age, but how can one prove it? I would most certainly accept lower pay just to have a steady paycheck that I could live on. Sorry to hear that you are struggling, too. I sincerely hope things work out better for you, and I appreciate your kind thoughts.
