It was.... thanks!

I tried posting a comment on the BMJ piece as well - don't know if it'll get published.

A lot of my posts disappeared. Especially the ones with facts and links, so I tried facts & broken links, ...
Corrective posts to smart Alec's also disappeared a lot of times.
I also noticed that if I respond via Disques, the link to their comment is multi-personality. Poster-A links to poster-B and often to poster-C.

Dr. Farsalinos didn't understand my question. (Not his fault, even I don't understand what I'm talking about half the time lol). Well, actually, he answered, but didn't understand my question. He said it is no more harmful than a vegetable. Which, is true, but how many veggies can we intake before hitting the max?

But, another poster answered with this calculus. "TLV-TWA for nicotine is 500mcg/cubic meter. This is the threshold a worker can tollerate without consequences for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 40 years."
Sweet eh! But, I still hope to know the mcg/ as a ppm ...

Bates' comment rocked their conceited little fantasy world, as always :D. Watch the number of likes for his comments, vs those for the pseudo-scientific demonizing of nicotine by Schiebner.

Don't you just hate it when dilettante hacks such as Schiebner hide behind their titles and academic credentials and spew extremist, paranoid garbage with the title of science...

According to this ppm to mg/m3 conversion calculator it's 0.07534 ppm.

Nicotine molecular weight is 162.26.

In other words not much.

Reminds me of "appeal to irrelevant authority" from the Book of Bad Arguments:

(If the caption is too small to read on your screen, here it is: "Peculiarly, Professor Chimp, the world's most distinguished living chemist, is often quoted about matters of fidelity.")

Worse, she didn't specify her credentials. Unless she's edited it since yesterday, Ms. Scheiber described herself simply as, "PhD, scientist, retired." And if her background really is in geology, then her vague self-description is not only misleading; it's a lie, because no respectable scientist would knowingly volunteer his status as a scientist in a context in which his scientific expertise is irrelevant.

Her calling herself a scientist in that situation is, in other words, anti-scientific -- akin to a software-engineer PhD volunteering himself when an injured bystander cries for a doctor.

But to be fair to Ms. Scheiber, she is by no means unique; the editorial on which she commented is little better than what she wrote. It's clear that at least in that particular conversation at BMJ, her side favors rhetoric over reasoning. The state of BMJ, just based on this one example, is frankly scandalous. Godlee's content-free political screed is what we can expect a putatively respectable scientific institution to publish?

It comes as no surprise to me anymore, but still it's pretty stunning when you really think about it.

heres what they said:

Konstantinos Farsalinos: If you are talking about second-hand exposure to nicotine (the numbers you mention are completely irrelevant and have no meaning), nicotine exposure was never a problem in second=hand smoking and cannot be a problem in second-hand vaping. None can become addicted to nicotine from environmental exposure. You get more nicotine by eating eggplants, tomatoes, potatoes and cauliflower.

TLV-TWA for nicotine is 500mcg/cubic meter. This is the threshold a worker can tollerate without consequences for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 40 years.

ME: inserting 500 into the mg space, we get (75.356 ppm)

in order to effect a bystander, we would need 0.038 divided by 75.356 people vaping in a tiny, non ventilated room, for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 40 years. Correct? 194? (Supposing every vapor held the amount, instead of1 in 10). In a ventilated room, the numbers would be 1,194? I need p.opus to figure all this "possibility" stuff. So, if a tiny diner held 2000 people vaping, for 8 hours, 5 days a week, for 40 years, some one might possibly be effected?
I have no idea what I'm calculating, I flunked math. I hope someone can calculate.
