I will probably lose all my merits badges for this one.

I found this lying around in a junk drawer and I just had to mod it.

I used an old 808 automatic battery. If you look at the drawing below you will see there are only 3 parts inside a battery. You have a battery connector on one end, then a battery, and on the other end you have the circuit board and LED board.

To make the mod I just removed all the parts from the tube. Then I used a copper pipe cutter to shorten the tube.

I drilled a hole in the tube so I could have an exit for all the wires, and just replaced the “little” battery with a 14500 battery.

I've got some of those duracell boxes. I'm going to have to try this. I've got a couple of year old 901s that would be perfect.
Is that duracell auto a 5v?
Once again, kudos & thanks for posting this!:)

Nope...just a battery with 3.7 volts. My wife has a problem with anything over 3.7 volts.

If you just wiggle the battery connector it will pull out. I screw on an old carto so can get a grip on it.

Then just use a "bic" pin and push from the led end. It all comes out in a nice package.
