The cap on these cartridges are really low quality

So I got about 13 fully assembled eroll.
Refill them all every 2-3 days. I don't carry around the pcc.
Just put all my eroll in a box and carry them around like a pack of cigs.

They mostly work great. Most of them don't leak.

But there are 2-3 that do.

I fill them and put them all in a box lined with paper towel. And they sit there completely still.

Today I picked up one, got in the car.
Took a puff.
Something is not right.
Took another puff.
Dry, burnt.
Turned on the light.

It's completely empty.

At first, I thought the cap has worn out.
But no, it fits on nice and tight.

I got about 100 spared caps and replace them regularly once i feel them getting loose.

I can't figure out why some of them always occasionally leak if it's not caused by loose cap.
Maybe it's the fact that I leave them laying horizontally.

This is just a theory of mine, so it might be easily disproved, but -

It might be your transport method. When a unit is filled, some liquid is going to leak. This is a given - on all the units. When you take the tanks out, there will be some small amount of liquid around the top of the tank. This liquid will also be found on the walls of the cone, between the tank and cone, as well as down the small gaps between the atty and the cone, and the atty and the battery. Small gaps like these will wick the liquid along just as an actual wick does. This is due to the surface tension of the liquid.

This is why the grooves were added to the battery holder part of the PCC. Because the gap to another surface is slightly larger, the liquid has a tougher time wicking along. This is why when you put the battery in upside down in the charging port, it will leak more. Because the grooves are no longer lined up to the seams on the unit, thereby providing a small gap between seam and next surface for the liquid to move along.

Even when the battery is lined up in the port correctly, some liquid might come out of the seams, but it won't travel because the groove does not provide another close surface to "jump" to.

I've solved my own leaking issues by placing the batteries in the PCC as intended, and putting the PCC in my pocket upside down, with the LEDs and USB port at the top.

As with all things manufactured in quantity, there are tolerances to consider. Engineers do very complex analyses of tolerance stacks, that kind of math makes my head hurt, but its necessary ... :blush:

Put a tank with an oversized hole on an atomizer with an undersized spike, and it leaks, despite the magic of surface tension that usually prevents that ... :blink:

Surface tension is cool, I remember the Physics class experiment to demonstrate this effect. Take a cigarette paper and lay it on the surface of a glass of water, then place a sewing needle on the paper. Carefully poke the paper until it sinks, leaving the steel needle floating. If you look closely, you see the water apparently bending around under the needle ...

And it makes an emergency compass if you're lost in the woods ! :laugh:
