Some in this thread act like they've never been to a cigar launnge or an airport smoking lounge. The goal isn't anemic vapor that does nothing to duplicate analogs, I thought we wanted an analog experience I know I do, an ego doesn't cut it in my book.

I don't think all the ranting is about your average guy who prefers more vapor. There is a lot of room between an ego and a 0.001 ohm dripping setup. Maybe we should stop calling it cloud chasers and refer to it as "borderline idiots" to make it more clear who we're talking about.

Just to clarify. I did not call every cloudchaser a borderline idiot. I think most know the difference.

For reference I sub ohm at 0.7 ohms 20 watts and do not consider myself irresponsible or an idiot as you call sub ohmers.

I agree not all sub-ohm vaping is a problem, but where do you draw the line? Some people think anything over 50% of a battery's continuous amp draw spec is dangerous, some 80%, some 100% and some 130%.

On top of that, I believe there are many more mechanical mod battery venting events caused by shorts than from setups at too high power draw. That is though a topic better left for another thread I guess :)

I've got to wonder how many venting accidents occur that we know nothing about that never get reported? It's not something that most would brag about to their friends or even on the internet.

"Dude, I was getting it on with this monster cloud build around, oh I don't really know...02 ohms? My mod got sooo hot I had to toss it. BAM! Now I gotta get a new mod, dang it."

I think only a small percentage of the vapers is really interested in cloud chasing.
Since it is the most technical demanding way of vaping, many come looking for info, here and on YouTube, etc
It is also the most spectacular variant , big clouds, explosions and what more.
Hence it tends to dominate the scene a bit but I guess that will get less over the next few months.
The novelty will wear off at some point and since it is a rather demanding (dripping, ohm measuring, high end kit, etc) way of vaping, I don't see it catching on with the general vape population as The way to vape.

In the town in which I currently reside it has caught on as THE way of vaping. with the younger-than-me-sters (Yeah that's a word now). $20 dollar clones and *****'fire batteries in every 18 to 20 something's hot little hand. The dining room in my place of employment awash in thick clouds of near pure VG fruity smelling vapor. Emitted from a poorly built coil in a "trend-o-mizer" clone. A high percentage of vaping conversations I get into usually involve me explaining ohms law or as I like to call it. The "why your mod is too hot to touch" talk. In the last two weeks alone I have seen or heard of three separate cases of batteries venting, one sending a local high schooler, who I work with, to the ER for burns. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a nice thick hit of delicious vapor as much as the next guy but something has to give, otherwise, we as vapers can kiss the days of safe vaping completely goodbye. IE: "Congressman Joe Schmooley will now speak on IEDs for children, I mean e-cigarettes".

Perhaps it will die down soon, but here I see no end in sight.

Sadly I don't think it will die down, and you can trace some of the blame back to shops that care about bottom dollar. Why tell the customer about the dangers when you can let them destroy mod after mod knowing they will always come back for new ones, or new batteries or the next big RDA Cloud Chuckerz Extreme. Then you have the naive vapers that think "it will never happen to me". Sure it MIGHT not happen to you, but it CAN. And generally speaking the longer you do something the more you increase your chances of the bad stuff happening. I say why risk it?

Now dont get me wrong, I enjoy having big fluffy clouds only because I like to watch them....sometimes I see bunnies....or a unicorn, but I don't need to have that .08 ohm build to do it. I was at a vape shop recently that had a few of the young chasers of the cloud and they were amazed at the volume I was throwing out. They were absolutely convinced I had a super sub-ohm build, and called me a liar when I explained that my build just barely classified as 'sub-ohm'. With my IPV2 running at 20W, a plume veil, .9 ohm single coil, and high VG juice I had better clouds than all of them and I wasn't worried that it would explode in my face. Maybe, if vendors cared more about really selling quality over quantity we can help this issue. I don't think the chase will end, but maybe we can end the stupidity of some of the chasers.

Also if they would just listen, maybe the could be edumacated on the facts of vape. Where are the 1950's instructional videos when you need them? "I just built a .08 ohm coil!" "Hold on a second there Billy, we should talk about safety"

Correct, hell I can throw some pretty big plumes of vapor with just my VV v3 at 10 watts, and a rebuilt 1.5 ohm protank mini.

Shop owners should be concerned with quality over quantity... Wait... Then those kids won't be back next week for a new battery tube or the latest RDA with an even bigger build deck for octo-nano-star of david-coils. There are, however some very awesome shop owners in my area with concern for both safety and quality, sadly, those shops tend to get looked over by a lot of business. Reason being, the clerks will advise against getting a $50.00 super cloud rig with the grey Kamry k100 batteries and a Patriot RDA if it's your first rig.

Oh, no... I seem to have a dual coil at 0.09 ohms on my Plume Veil... Someone make my battery explode as it has yet to do what some think it will do... Oh come now.

I've done the research and I'm fine. Never had a battery vent as I follow all safety "protocols" to the T. I stay within my battery limits, build a secure coil keeping a nice solid build, I don't go below the internal resistance of the battery, I maintain my mod daily, I keep my batteries on a strict charge rotation, I don't vape the power builds constantly and allow them to cool down, etc, etc, etc.

Yeah, their are some that do it unsafe... But lump everyone into the same category? That just seems counter productive.

Here is how I see it... People that love vape clouds and do it safe are cloud chasers... The people that do it unsafe are ....... Look at it like car enthusiasts vs ricers.

Bold for emphasis. A growing portion of the vape community hasn't done a fraction of this. They see the clouds, watch a youtube video, then bargain shop online so they can save 5 bucks on a rebranded battery. Of the people I have met that chase clouds its a 50/50 mix of people who have done the back end work to be safe, and those that go lower and lower trying to emulate YT videos without doing any research.

I don't lump everyone into the same category but as stated before, the cloud chasing scene is getting bigger and bigger because more shops are holding competitions and with video services like YouTube anyone can post a video of big clouds. All that some of the chasers know is go below .3ohm for big clouds. They don't take the time to understand the science behind it.

Got it! Cloud Racers! I'm coining it now. Unsafe cloud chasers are forever known as 'Cloud Racers™'

If only they knew that airflow, surface area, wicking, vg ratio, and coil placement were WAY more important than power. I see many people with 0.05 ohm coils that can't use a drip tip because it is too hot and I'll walk up running my daily driver dual 0.2 ohm and blow clouds around them like it was a comp.

I'm not denying that there is a growing crowd that is going the unsafe route. Maybe there should be free cloud chasing classes available at some shops? They name it that to attract the danger crowd and sneak in safety as well.

That would be best. I know a few of my shops here make you sit and get a tutorial on rebuilding when you get your first mod(s). But again that would put some of the responsibility on the vendor. They would have to place safety over profit and thats not an easy thing to do. They know if this kid builds a super sub ohm build and blows a finger off because he didn't know what he was doing the kid would blame the mod manufacturer or the battery manufacturer. Its their product that failed right?

If shops stepped up and did training then I think it would go a long way into educating the newer vapers and the older ones who are looking to delve into the cloud chasing world. I actually was rolling the idea around in my head of starting up a vape lounge similar to cigar lounges and have coil building lessons and discussions. Put the education into the community.

I tried to make it clear I did not call sub-ohmers idiots. I vape at around 20 watts myself or a little bit lower. Hi-five!

It's not sub-ohmers or cloud chasers I'm talking about. It's those who try to win the equivalent of a leaning-out-a-window contest. I do see that I chose my words poorly in my previous post. Nothing new about that :D

I think I'd draw the line at those who defend their setups by quoting burst discharge ratings or going so low in resistance that a minor imprecision in ones ohm reader can account for several amps difference. I'm not worried for anyone who keeps such things in mind.

Thankfully there are a lot of high-wattage, regulated mods coming out that could blow any mechanical (sans stacking) out of the water. Given individual battery channels, there should be no real danger in using 2- 3 batteries safely - to up the wattage through voltage instead of amperage alone.

So, I like clouds. I like inhaling them, I like watching them, I love them. I love the mouth feel, the temperature, the awesome throat hit, the intense flavor load, and staring at the voluminous, smoke-like fractals produced by a nice, slow, satisfying exhale. I like to stay in the .3 to .4 ohm range. I don't think that's radically extreme. I use it anywhere I would have smoked including at the bar or on the patio at my local coffee house. I tend to use my ProVari and a tank if I'm actively moving around, because dripping while I'm not stationary can be tedious, but I definitely blow pretty big clouds in public locations, and if I can ever mentally get over how ugly box mods are, I'll buy a Reo and do it on the go as well. I'm honestly disappointed in any vape I can't lung inhale. Using my Kayfun feels like trying to suck a decent vape through the eye of a needle. I'll tolerate it, but it doesn't satisfy. I've never felt any more conspicuous than I did while smoking, and I have to say I'm taken aback by some of the attitudes in this thread. I can see not using it indoors without asking permission and being reasonably respectful by not blowing plumes directly at someone, but barring that I feel like anyone who has a problem with it can take a running start and jump off a cliff.

I can see being put out by idiots not showing a lick of sense towards safety or blocking the screen at a theatre, but getting bent out of shape because some of us like a different vape than you strikes me as both ignorant and rude.

I think an issue is that very cheap equipment and batteries- both in price and quality, seem to be quite prevalent. Mix that with new vapers who don't know anything about vaping, except that they want to blow clouds...

Mix in that the guy behind the counter at the 7000th new vape shop that just opened may have been making your Big Mac last week.
Knows little about the science behind what he's selling
And more importantly knows little about SELLING successfully.

So many times when in vape shops I see a "NEW" vapor come in to ask about vaping and the clerk immediately goes to "THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED"

When in reality the conversation should start with questions. LOTS of them.
What brought you in?
How did you hear about vaping?
ARE YOU A SMOKER? How much do you smoke? How do you smoke?
Have you tried an ecig? Which one? What did you like? What didn't you like?

SELLING IS NOT SOMETHING YOU DO TO SOMEONE ITS SOMETHING YOU DO WITH SOMEONE
Sell what YOU want and it's a transaction, sell what they NEED and you have a CUSTOMER.

I'm not reading through this entire topic as let's be honest, this is run of the mill, typical ECF forum afair. The old guard, those who hold true to their affinity of the e-cigarette, and the aversion of traditional tobacco, as if the correlation is ecig-> quit. While that is revolutionary and tremendously healthier in theory are those who oppose afraid of innovation, and dare I say, the new guard?

I'll admit, those who vape and have never smoked bug me a bit. Outside of that, cloud chasing is fun, an interesting and productive (okay, I use that loosely; however I've learned far more about electricity and it's relevant theories and implication... Something I wouldn't of if I kept smoking)

Things change. Innovation takes hold. Do you also Harbor a similar disdain for people who prefer more turbo, stronger engines, or optimal modifications to exceed industry standard performance with their car?

I just don't get why everybody thinks this is such a hot button issue. Sure, the foolish and uneducated make us look bad, but they usually fall to the wayside - and I believe people are becoming increasingly aware that what they're doing can (literally) blow up in their face. I may be rambling, but fear not, innovation is healthy, and cloud chasing is hurting none of you. I'd also like to say that since I got into mechanical mods, which lead to dripping, and eventually evolved into crazy low awesomely fun coil builds, I forgot all about

Wait for it

Nicotine.

I'd much rather be fixated on the density, flavor, and overall composition of my clouds than getting my fix - don't have one anymore!

Have a nice day.
