Maybe if they looked and acted more like the 2 ladies in the commercial which was banned by ECF, than the freak with the dirty baby diaper...
Why are those statistics relevant?
What percentage of drivers are racing in formula 1?
What percentage of drivers are satisfied with the Ford Fiesta?
Different strokes for different folks... Just because the percentage of people who like something is small (likely less than 1%) doesn't mean that the majority should discredit their desire to continue what they enjoy.
I agree with everything you said up until the last statement.
The ANTZ will use every means at their disposal to "dispose" of smoking. (And to them vaping is smoking).
To expect them not to use every possible tool in their arsenal to get their way underestimates them.
These are the same folks that got the FLAVOR ban on cigarettes (because they said it would attract kids to smoking) written into law.
That law is the same one that appointed oversight of ecigs to the FDA.
Some people refer to that law as the Tobacco Act of 2009 but it is important to know the full, actual name of that law:
The FAMILY SMOKING PREVENTION and Tobacco CONTROL Act of 2009.
The opponents of vaping are "attacking" vaping from the standpoint of prevention and elimination not smoking cessation. While the vaping community primarily (at least originally) was coming from the standpoint of a safer alternative for smokers.
This is a problem because it means from the outset our purposes are at odds.
This is David and Goliath and Goliath is an army: Lawmakers, Big Tobacco, Big Pharm, Media
They will paint "cloud chasing" as a fad or a sport that attracts youth to vaping and vaping is a gateway to smoking and nicotine addiction.
If you don't believe this then I invite you to actually read the Tobacco Act and the FDA proposed deeming regs at minimum because their perspective is spelled out clearly
In other words, they will MAKE IT synonymous with vaping.
Think about the headlines that would have occurred had the explosion at VapeBlast maimed or killed.
You can bet your ..... it would have been something like:
" X PEOPLE KILLED WHEN ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE EXPLODES DURING "CLOUD CHASING" COMPETITION AT VAPE EVENT"
BTW I have nothing against cloud chasing--the genie is out of the bottle anyway--but I am a realist.
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.
If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.
If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle"
-Sun Tzu
Agree with most of it, but could not resist to give an answer to this part:

If only it was that simple...!
ANTZ's "associations" and "coalitions" of "the lung" and "the heart" actually need smokers to give meaning to their very existence - and to the money attached to it from Pharma sponsorchip.
All flavours banned "because of the children" where flavours that were NOT being used anyway.
Menthol, the ONLY flavour which was actually being used by almost half of "the childrun" (young smokers) was NOT covered in the flavours ban.
In fact, not only it was NOT banned, but it was allowed in novel "menthol-crunch" cigarettes. Cigarette brands that used to NOT have menthol now have optional menthol in them - so that the "children" can still smoke them, when their usual menthol brand is unavailable.
The same dirty, greedy people who protected the tobacco industry are now attacking e-cig vendors because of the flavours that "attract children" !! Have those people no shame at all?
How Do Senator Jay Rockefeller and his Commerce Committee Colleagues (Barbara Boxer and Richard Blumenthal) Sleep at Night?
The Rest of the Story: Tobacco News Analysis and Commentary: How Do Senator Jay Rockefeller and his Commerce Committee Colleagues (Barbara Boxer and Richard Blumenthal) Sleep at Night?
Quote:
"Thus, the rest of the story is that Senator Rockefeller protected Big Tobacco and helped them to continue to see the color green of dollars by voting to exempt menthol cigarettes from legislation that banned every other flavor. In other words, he sold out to Philip Morris, agreeing to this exemption that would allow Big Tobacco to continue to addict America's children with flavored cigarettes. Nearly 50% of youth smokers in the U.S. become addicted to smoking via menthol cigarettes."
"The truth is that Senator Rockefeller pretended to be committed to protecting the health of our nation's children, but instead, he was actually protecting Big Tobacco profits by exempting menthol from the flavoring ban. The Tobacco Act banned every imaginable flavor that was not actually being used in cigarettes (e.g., cherry, strawberry, banana, and pineaple), yet it exempted the one flavor (menthol) that was actually being used to addict children to a lifetime of smoking - a greatly shortened lifetime for many of them."
"This is actually what is wrong with our country: politicians who pretend to be acting in the public's interest but who are actually acting in interest of our nation's largest and most profitable corporations."
"The truth, in fact, is that NJOY's explicit value proposition is that it is trying to eviscerate the combustible cigarette market. While NJOY has the courage and values to stand up and work for the decimation of combustible cigarettes, that is something which Senators Rockefeller, Boxer, and Blumenthal do not have the fortitude to do. Instead, they have supported the institutionalization and protection of the tobacco cigarette market and are doing everything they can to protect real cigarettes from potential competition from far safer, fake ones."
If we're worried about cloud-chasing accidents giving rise to bad pr, why aren't we also worried about explosions from ego batteries leading to bad pr? Google "Ego battery" and "explosion." I assure there are examples that can equally well be used for bad pr.
Please, educate people, by all means, but don't start scapegoating a certain segment of the community.
Also, not understanding a certain segment of the community shouldn't lead to disliking that segment. I don't get the appeal of cartotanks. I have nothing against people who use them; may they live long and prosper.
I'm not that compatible with 100% VG. It gives me the heavy lung feeling if I vape it too much. I'm more of an 80pg/20vg type and that's not conducive to huge clouds, although I can white out my face in a mirror at 9 watts with my Kayfun if the wick is fairly new. That wouldn't qualify me for cloud blowing status these days, though. I started vaping to quit smoking and I'm surprised that I lasted this long without quitting vaping. I guess I'm addicted to inhaling vapor and blowing streams that look like cigarette smoke.

Nice thread...and I agree with you 100%. I personally do not give a sh** about massive clouds. I vape mainly for the nicotine.
I was in one of the local B&M shops last week, speaking to the owner about a new high tech sterile e-liquid lab that's about to open in my town soon when 3 goons came into the shop. Rich mamas boy looking goon surrounded by 2 boring as hell looking female goons wanting to buy a new mech mod. Goon was dripping and using gplat wires. The guy working behind the counter asked the goon what nic level he was vaping and the goon said "Zero". Then he proceeded to say " I have never smoked real cigarettes before" The guy working the vape shop asked "So why did you start vaping?" Then the goon said "because it's cool." This gimp/goon was at least 25 yrs old. Everyone else in the shop just looked at each other like "please get this ...... out of here".
A typical ego blowup is the equipment's fault and/or a charging issue while a mech is usually the user's fault so it's not exactly apples to apples.

And let me just say... I don't mind one bit if people want to blow clouds... IN THEIR OWN HOMES.... but to be doing it in a vape shop, where people are trying to taste new flavors... that's just rude and inconsiderate, and if the person doing it is an employee... then it is in fact just plain stupid.
... they cut their own throat where future purchases by me are concerned -- $14.84 once a month isn't much, but I might have ended up spending a lot more, if I could actually taste anything in there.
This makes zero sense. So If someone buys an 18650 that says its rated for 30 Amps, makes a build for 25 amps well with in the limit and it vents because it is just a re wrapped laptop battery it is his fault. While on the other hand, if some one buys a ....ty ego style battery puts it on the wrong charger and it goes boom, its the equipment's fault???? Or its the person who sold it to them, but it doesnt work that way for subohmers.
Or are you just try to say that everyone who subohms just knows nothing about what they are doing and therefore if something happens it is clearly their fault, while ego users know everything about their battery comp, appropriate charging trickle, about their charging cord and about the DC adapter that they plug that cord into. Pleese elaborate on how your decision was reached that it is not apples to apples because t ome it just looks like bias with no logic or thought put into it
A typical ego blowup is the equipment's fault and/or a charging issue while a mech is usually the user's fault so it's not exactly apples to apples.
The logic is in the idea that with the Egos it's almost always device failure or failure to use the wrong charger (perhaps because the wrong charger was provided). Whereas with mechs it COULD be battery failure from a bad battery, but it could also be bad modding, a coil build the battery can't handle or poor mod design. There are other factors that could cause an accident with a mech.
So the comparison is not really apples to apples but rather apples to apple pie.
