my first 6 months, I saved TONS. I had a set-up that I loved with 2 1000mah passthrough batteries, and only spent money on ejuice. After that I got "I want more and better itis" and have spent a good amount since. That said, cigarettes were $7+ a pack and I smoked 1 1/2 a day. I have not spent $70 a week or $200 a month, EVER!

I keep an Excel spreadsheet of what I would have spent on cigarettes versus what I have spent on vaping. So far I've managed to save $741.36 in the nearly 14 months since I quit smoking. Not even close to what my banner reflects.

I was actually in the red for about the first 6 or 7 months. Took me a while to find out what I actually liked.

I need to stop by the gas station where I used to buy my cigarettes and ask what they charge now. I'm still calculating my savings based on the price I paid for cigarettes 14 months ago. It wouldn't surprise me if they cost more now.

If you can control your desire for bright, shiny new objects all the time, then it is very cost effective. Around here (Chicago, Illinois, USA) area a pack of cigarettes will cost you at least $10 and some change!!! If you have got a reasonably effective ecig and a good rebuildable tank/atty etc, all you need is a little juice. If you get into building coils, DIY juice, etc, you can REALLY save money. However... $$$$ cost isn't the only cost to consider. If you, like many of us, believe that vaping is WAY more healthy than smoking, then the savings to your health can't be overestimated.

I keep seeing these banners for how long people have quit smoking and how much they save, and it makes me so curious: how much of that money saved from quitting is used on vaping? I mean no offense at all from the question, it's just been poking around my mind for a bit

It depends on the person. In my case, I had one of those banners for the first year of vaping. During the first year, I pretty much bought anything that tickled my fancy. After 9 months, I rapidly downsized to what I wanted to keep and sold or gave away the rest. At that point, I was break even. Now between liquid and the occasional hw add, I spend about $50 to $100 a month, less than a 1/3 of what cigarettes cost me.

Since the beginning of May, I have kept myself to a dollar a day. I will be placing a 27 dollar order sometime after next Monday. Before then, I was getting a trifle impulsive. I started budgeting when I was playing around with the thought of buying a mech mod and a few RBA's. Decided I was happy, and had no desire to go up the ladder (or down the slope )

Damn, when i was in LA a couple of years ago, Marlboro Reds were under $5

In England you'll be looking at nearly $13 for those, cheaper brands still about $10 .. thats why a lot of people roll their own.
Still, 2 ounces of rolling tobacco is about $28 ... for me it worked out about $2-3 per day

A quick calculation shows that I have saved $4,335 based on one pack and a half of Cowboy killers per day. I jumped on the cheap wagon as soon as I found this forum (thanks Fast Tech!) and have spent about less than 1k on vaping since 2/14/13. WOW!!

I am not including the cost savings accrued from not replacing burnt clothes and doctor visits.

I started with Blu, progressed quickly to cheap Ego styles and throwaway clearos. I vape on an MVP2 and Innokin Taste vv/vw v.3. I make my own juices, for the most part, and use EVODS and mPT3's. I don't rebuild, but do plan on getting a Kayfun to go in the vacopolypse box...I will probably order some pre-built wicks and coils to go with them, because I just do not want to frustrate myself too much. Right now I am really happy with what I have.

I don't spend a fortune trying to chase down the newest and greatest...not that there is anything wrong with that! I just like what I like and I don't like change much because I am an old fart.

I think that's really the key to saving money vaping, find what works best for you that you want to stick with, even then you'll get the sniny-itis once in awhile, but it won't be as severe and compel you into having to have it.

I've found my perfect set up for both at home and going out and unless somebody comes up with something that in my mind rivals what I know is working for me , I have no need to buy anything other than juice, wire, and wick.

My expenses for cigs was roughly 3650.00 a year. I will have 3 years on Dec 1st and would have spent 10,950.00. I have spent about 4000.00 total so I have saved a bunch. I also have enough stock on hand to last me for at least 10 years if I never buy anything else but pg/vg and flavoring. I smoked 47 years and if vaping had been around all that time I could have probably almost bought a house and paid cash with the savings.

I use a banner to keep track of how much I've saved since quitting analogs. But it's not really about the money. That's just a big bonus. The real savings is in my health, my improved stamina and cardio and the fact that I no longer smell like an ash tray.

And yes, of course I've saved money. Even though I have constantly been adding to my collection and trying new APV's, Mechanical Mods, RBA's, RDA's, juices and more, I've still saved a ton of money! I will sit down and go over my invoices for the past two years but I honestly don't think I've come anywhere close to spending $1,000 on vaping.

However, as of today's date, I have kept over $9,100 in my pocket instead of donating it to Big Tobacco.

I'm reminded of something I posted back in 2012 and for me, it sums things up pretty well:

I'M TIRED OF PAYING TOBACCO COMPANIES TO KILL ME!!!

i am honestly more addicted to buying new vape gear and building new coils and trying new juice then i ever was to cigarettes. i probably spend about the same as i did when i smoked a pack a day but its a much healthier hobby and at least i have cool stuff to show for all the money i spend. not just empty paper boxes and a smelly car

All of this makes me feel way better about buying vape things. At most, I probably smoked a pack every two months? I wouldn't even finish the packs; they'd just sit and get stale in my car, so I wasn't really sure if I SHOULD be saving money by vaping. I'm just so enthralled by the act of tasting something sweet and blowing a big cloud! :vapor:

Honestly cost differences is what initially drew me in. I don't have any exact numbers, but I know that I saved enough with the switch that I could afford decent cigarettes during my dual-use phase, whereas I had been smoking rollies previously. I am still very low budget but especially now that I'm not dual-using anymore, I really can't picture switching back... From just a financial standpoint alone. Don't even get me started on taste or health benefits.

I agree with most have said, initially you don't see a lot of savings and may actually spend a little more.

I finally found my "happy spot" with the equipment I am using. I am building my own coils for all the toppers i have and use, and I am using cotton for wicks. Got wire for coils for $8 for 100 feet and a bag of cotton for $4.

I DIY and what commercial flavors I buy I buy in bulk so it is really cheap.

In the not too distant future I foresee a purchase of a second ProVari and two more Russian clones. I think that will keep me happy for a very long time.
