I hope someone can benefit from this, I certainly didn't.

I have been vaping 2 yrs 5 months without a care in the world, battery safety? What??? Never thought about it. With all the discussion regarding exploding batteries I did start to think about it and decided to get the Pila charger (2 of them) along with new batteries (14500 AW) and battery cases. All good.

In the transition, at my "charging station" (very organized with a neat hole drilled through the Corian countertop leading to a mounted electrical strip all installed by a licensed electrician) where I charge everything, cell phones, e cig batts, electronic lock box, lap top, iPad, etc. I set-up the "new" Pila charger. All good.

At the same time I started unplugging everything charging when I wasn't present or when it wasn't needed for SAFETY reasons. I didn't crawl under the desk, I unplugged at the charger or phone or computer, etc. All good.

Being a tad unfamiliar with the new charger and still having the old charger in place, I was apparently confused this morning (pre coffee) when I plugged in the new Pila charger. My husband came into the room and asked "what is that smell, something is burning". NOT GOOD.

With all the various charging points I had inadvertently plugged the Gateway laptop charging point into the Pila. The batteries nor the charger liked the whole idea. I now have a fried BRAND NEW charger, fried BRAND NEW batteries and a burn on my countertop. I probably should buy a new laptop charger too, I have no idea what I've done to that.

So, don't just watch your chargers or batteries, watch the specific cord too. I feel like an idiot, all this for safty's sake.

Loads of smoke and electrical burning smell, A brown burnt liquid under the charger (???). I guess if no one had noticed it could have been much worse. I hope I can sand the burn mark out of the countertop. Just a word to the wise, be careful with everything! I'm not leaving chargers plugged in anymore.

OMG... what a nightmare you have been through. I am like you and just really starting to change the way I do things when it comes to batteries and chargers. I don't leave chargers plugged in anymore. I also no longer leave batteries charging in the charger and leave the house like I used to.

That kind of practice is probably why I am now after only 3 months starting to have problems with the performance of my batteries!! Yuck..... There is so much to learn about batteries and safety.

Thanks for the heads up and I'm so glad nothing too terrible happened to you.

It might be time to change this, I've had the avatar for years. When I first joined ECF I thought it had a "Jetsons" quality (does anybody here know to whom I refer????).

Never as interesting once you know what it is, much like a magic trick:
Portable Smoking Filter Cigarette and Ash Holder (Yellow) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

What a great little idea. I think, no wait a minute, I dont do that anymore. Thats BAD!

But seriously, Im glad everybodys ok. Its ironic how carefull we can be and still get in a situation like that. We have had quite a lot of dialogue lately regarding these things, hence my sig. I bought a 3AA VV boxmod from a ECF approved vendor and it takes 2 14500s. Inside the 2 slots for the batts have springs at opposite ends. Imprinted in the wall of the slots are diagrams showing which way to install, and I quote, "2 AA batteries". Not only that but the original use for the box had the batts going the same direction. So if one was to follow the imprinted instructions one would insert 2 AA batts and one of them would be inserted backwards. We have enough trouble these days without this kind of sillyness.

Sorry, I am actually new to the mod scene and using 18650 batteries, so I have a basic question:

Should I be turning off/unplugging my charger before I load the batteries and before I remove them from the charger? Is it okay to place the batteries in the charger and take them off when the charger is on?

Thats a great question. I have been in the APV scene for a couple of months now and I have heard exact opposite statements regarding this issue, so I'm interested to hear what some experts have to say.
