Good article, but it will fall on deaf ears and eyes. The fix is in and has been in for some time. Money talks, and pharma is making sure it speaks to all the ideologues. They really don't care if smokers die as long as they can get rid of anything productive in helping them quit and protect the cash cow known as pharmaceuticals. The people at the top of the alphabet soup agencies are flush with pay and benefits and perks and if we all quit and don't use the standard NRT's that is in jeopardy. It's all about money and control. They are hooked on both.

I can't take the chance that they will ban what works for me. I've fought bans and will continue to do so, BUT I am stockpiling and preparing for the worst to happen. It would be extremely foolish of me not to do so.

Except that the FDA's attempted e-cigarette ban was overturned by the federal courts, and we've defeated all twelve bills that were introduced in 8 states (CA, NY, IL, UT, MD, WA, OR, TN) to ban the sale of e-cigarettes.

We'll continue to win as long as we continue to fight.

And Hawaii yes?

And Hawaii, yes. I testified via emailed letter on that one as well. I agree we've stopped bans where we could get access before the law was enacted. The playing field is changing now, however. In ND they took it right to the people after a blizzard of misinformation to the public from the ideologues and rabid "it looks like smoking" corps.

Now we have the government telling universities and colleges, ban ALL tobacco use on your campuses or lose Federal grants. This includes e cigs, snus, everything.

We also have the CDC, FDA and DHHS funding local, county and state Health Officers who persuade officials to ban ALL tobacco use including e cigs, snus, everything.

We don't find out about this until it's nearly or already a done deal and we can't be proactive. We need to somehow respond to this new reality. They are effectively doing the work of the FDA who lost in court. They insist on conflating cigarette smoking with smokeless products

The fix is still in, pharmaceuticals and our taxes are paying for all this.

Fiamma, you're on to something. We were blindsided by the Johnson County ban here in Indiana and only found out that e-cigs were included in the defintion of smoking well after the bill was passed by the commisioners. The media reports still don't have anything that indicate e-cigs are included. (Granted, the wording is odd as it concerns "lighting" electronic cigarettes.

After I saw a mention that Johnson County Commisioners were considering a stricter smoking ban, I started checking their web site's meeting agendas, but never saw the ordinance mentioned. Then Bill G. posts that it has passed and includes e-cigs. (Quite frankly this type of stuff has always angered me and the last Hoosier Vapers meeting had plenty of emotion directed at the Johnson County Commisioners, but it also help direct us toward trying to find a solution. Now, here's to hoping that we get things in place before the next salvo.)

I've known about any number of ways our government has passed laws in stealthy manners, but the "We want to protect you from yourself" motions are usually trumpeted loud and clear before hand. Now I wonder if these things, not just vaping related, are going to start going on the DL?

We are definitely seeing more threads entitled "XYZ passes smoking ban that includes electronic cigarettes" and less threads entitled "XYZ proposes smoking ban that includes electronic cigarettes" these days. This has been going on for quite awhile now, and I was under the impression that it is a change in tactics by the ANTZ after they saw our successes piling up. I am pretty sure there was some information posted awhile back in which some ANTZ indicated that they were aware of us and had plans to handle the problem. I think it might have been some emails posted here that were retrieved using the Freedom of Information Act, if I remember correctly.

We need to do what we can to be ambassadors of vaping to our family, friends, and coworkers and continue to look for information before anything is passed. When the proposed ban in NY was announced here, I went to everyone I know and had them all sending letters and emails stating that they knew someone whose life had been changed for the better because of e-cigs. Nonsmokers sit and do nothing or vote in favor of the smoking bans.... they will do nothing or vote in favor of banning harm reduction methods UNLESS we can make it personal to them. We need to make nonsmoking friends, relatives, and coworkers aware that we need help to keep vaping available so that we're not smoking.

We also need to get busy contacting our local, state, and federal elected members of government. It can be as simple as writing a letter that tells your personal story of how a smoke-free alternative enabled you to finally stop smoking. End with a statement that organizations that only want smokers to have the "quit or die" option may ask them to create legislation that bans sales or use of such products. Ask them that, in the event they are asked to sponsor or support such legislation, they give you the opportunity to provide them with facts and scientific information before they make a decision.

I did get a few responses after they passed the ban on sales to minors in NY. One actually said they'd received a lot of stories of people having success with e-cigs when other methods did not work and she will oppose any ban on sales to adults in the future as there is no conclusive proof that they are hazardous to adults.
