This is news to me

My morning cough subsided shortly after giving up the smokes. Are you sure you aren't hearing folks talk about how the vape seems harsh first thing in the morning? Because that I can sorta relate to...but to be honest that only seemed to affect me for a few months and now I vape when I have my coffee and it's no problem at all.

News to me. Now, as a switched 100% to vaping and gave up cigs forever, the morning cough was the last smoking symptom to leave my body. That did take about 2 months. It wasn't every morning, but a few to several days a week. But no, since month 3 started, no new symptoms that in any way (I feel for me) are related to vaping. Only better feeling.

ETA: Now I'm not a "lung" inhaler. I vape mouth hits, just enough to exhale through nose. Maybe we're seeing "lung-hitters" here with such complaints? Now, I will never tell a grown adult how to put their nicotine in their body. That's not my place. But for me, I have no desire to put anything (other than air) into my lungs again. I want them to heal the best they can (YMMV). Mouth/nose inhaling/exhaling satisfies me just fine, without introducing possible irritants to my healing lungs.

I have had a sore throat a couple of times, but that was after a long night of drinking. It seems the more I drink the more I vape and the higher I push up the voltage. Chain vaping at high voltage with not a fully saturated vape (comes with chain vaping are high voltage) equates to a sore throught and coughing the next morning.

I'm about 2 months in and haven't experienced anything like that. I didn't as a smoker either. In neither case was I lung inhaling (a fact I never realized until these discussions here on ECF after I started vaping.), I inhale as far as the back of my throat and exhale.

I suffered with, first, the morning cough and, next, the all day one during my 58+ years smoking. The body has multiple ways of protecting itself by walling off irritation depending on its location. In the lungs, or whole respiratory system, that's mucous. My cough and/or mucous is gone since I started vaping. I, also now, no longer inhale anything but air into my lungs if I can avoid it.... that includes air fresheners, hairspray, harsh cleaning products, etc. I never want all that mucous in my life again!!!! We're living in a society that is way dysfunctional in which smoking tobacco and its mucous cough is deplorable due to dispicable behavior but legal and smoking, heretofore, illegal substances other than tobacco are being legalized and its okay to put that in your lungs... smoking is smoking period no matter what's burning... irritation = mucous and cough. I wonder if the cough that develops in non-tobacco users who still are smoking something will be called a "smoker's cough."

When I switched to vaping my morning cough disappeared, however it reappeared after about 5 months.
But it's not like it was when I was smoking, it is much less disturbing and gruesome.

I believe it is the PG and/or VG and/or flavorings that your lungs are bringing up as part of their natural processes.

There is no doubt that, for me, the more VG I use the more phlegm and coughing I experience.
I try to stick to 70% PG if I can, and no lower than 50% PG at worst.

Everyone's mileage WILL vary....

grace of my smoking career I developed a "lovely"hacking cough, people in my neighbourhood didn't need to set their alarm clock,i'd wake them up on the morning dog walk.Since the best part of 10 months of vaping, the cough is well & truly history. Some times I can feel a bit "backed up" in the throat department but the ensuing cough is pathetic in comparison to my old smoking days.

I'm noticing more and more that peeps are complaining about the cough they have "only" in the morning. I'm curious about this.

I have been vaping for over two years now, and that is news to me.
I had it for the last year or so as a smoker, after smoking for 35 years (1 PAD or more).

When I made the transition to vaping, I still had the cough for approx 3 weeks. I had been told that this would be the case. As the lungs would clean themselves. The stuff that I coughed out got lighter and lighter - and after approx. 3 weeks it was gone. And never came back.

I do however cough / retch a little in the morning when I am very very tired.
When I smoked, I would then throw up. Not nice. - Now as a vaper, I cough a little, spit out a little clear stuff, and that's it.
But only when I am very very tired in the morning.

I must be odd. I find higher VG relaxes my chest more and I cough less.

I find most of my coughing/wretch and sometimes sickness is literally my throat is dry. I need, and I mean NEED, to drink water whilst I vape. The first few hits on the cloud machine first thing in the morning causes me to cough, a drink of water first and I'm fine.

I do think it's very much a case of "your mileage will vary". I can't stand PG now, at all, I'm pretty much DIY'ing at 100% VG, I still need to drink though or it causes a cough (which is far less than vaping PG to me)

I do lung inhale, and the more I read on here the more I realize it's not needed. Need to retrain my mind a bit there though as it's purely habit!

I'm having it now after about 9 or 10 weeks of completely being off analogs.

But what I did see is that I went from like 100% pg juice to about 75% VG and 25% PG juice. I didn't think about the PG's/VG's aspect of it. It was the flavor that I wanted.

So tonight I'm doing 75% PG and 25% VG. I'll let you know in a week or so how it's going.

And to all this "lung inhale" vs "throat inhale", um, how do you know the difference??? If I inhale just a little bit, it's going into my lungs. If you're breathing it in, it's going into your lungs. Are you just talking mouth inhale?
