In the end, there's more balance to this story than most I'm become accustomed to.

Oh, the resident naysayer gets in the usual mantras ("people are putting their health at risk when they use e-cigarettes...We offer a range of methods from gum, patches and lozenges to nicotine inhalers, for people who are having trouble getting over the oral fixation...The products are safe"), including this one, which—of course—omits all the dosage, bottle size & body weight details: "At full strength...there's enough nicotine in a bottle of e-juice to kill a child."

But, the other side is heard from, and their case is made relatively effectively.

I submitted a comment yesterday but it didn't show up for some reason. I resubmitted it today and it finally posted. This was a pretty balanced article, but I wish they would contact e-cigarette experts and not just mall e-cig users and vendors. So much opportunity is missed to tell the FULL story!

I suppose it's possible that reporters aren't necessarily aware there's such a thing as an e-cigarette expert—or, for that matter, CASAA and the like. Which is why it behooves all of us to educate where we can.

True, but I just think how much more convincing the e-cigarette side arguement would have been with a statement by Dr. Siegel, Dr. Philips, Dr. Whelan, etc! With Dr. Siegel's recent research paper in the news, he would have been an easily found source for comment. They always use "officials" for the anti side and laypeople for the e-cigarette side. It just isn't a fair portrayal. It implies that the only people "pro e-cigarette" are nicotine addicts and the merchants profiting off them. The puyblic won't see thenm in the same light as "authorities."

I agree with all of that, down to the letter. Whatever your stance on this particular issue, statements offered down from presumed authority—and with no apparent vested interest—always hit their target with greater impact.

When leaving a comment, if space restrictions permit I link any page of Siegel's blog that has any pertinence. One paragraph of his outweighs in the mind of most anyone volumes of anything I might have to say.

What a stupid statement. There is certainly enough nicotine in a box of nicotine lozenges to kill a child too. What an ignoramous.:-x (not directed at you, P.I.!!)

Yeah, their claims are often blatantly hypocritical. Add to the one above the fact that Nicorette mini lozenges look just like tic-tacs (white) and nicotine gums/lozenges come in Fruit Chill, Mint, Cherry, Cinnamon and Capaccino flavors. Exactly the reasons they oppose tobacco Orbs - look like candy and candy flavors - yet Orbs are brown, not white. Somehow all the candy flavors will attract kids to tobacco and e-cigarettes but not to BP gum and lozenges??

I loved this quote:

In addition to the nicotine inhaler, she said staff at La Clinica and Ben Archer can help with behavior modification techniques. The state also provides cigarette-like chew straws, she said, and shredded coconut for people addicted to chewing tobacco, she said.

Gee....and they wonder why people continue to use tobacco. Coconut and chewing straws? Gimme a break. See now....this is indicative of the anti-smoking bunch as a whole. They are completely ignorant of what it is like to be a smoker and should just shut up already. It's the equivalent of a witch doctor chanting and sprinkling herb dust into a campfire in hopes of curing a broken leg.
