You're actually on target with the thermal properties. While the tank itself may not seem like it heats much the stainless / atty portion can, and does transfer heat to the tank as well.

Generally speaking, Fused Quarts is preferred for genesis style atties.

I may be incorrect, but I believe FQ is more chemical resistant and less prone to breaking due to thermal shock. I think they are both just as susceptible to breaking due to direct physical force at the same wall thickness, but I don't really know for sure. Kathy (bedazzle) would be the one who would know the reason to use one over the other.

Sent from my phone.

Yeah - am thinking about physical strength. I really don't think thermal properties should factor in, as if your tank is getting hot enough to shatter or crack either of the materials, the vaper is doing something VERY wrong. This is coming from a guy that likes to vape very harsh cinnamon juices - they were always fine in my Phiniac tanks back in my carto days (STILL have those tanks).

LOL...

O so i should Remove wick from iH prior to dry burning on the stove?

Dude! You need to use a 20ml syringe tube, cut it the same length, viola!!,a practically unbreakable tank.I have been useing syringe tanks on my zens since march and all my ihys as I get them,no problems.Unless your one of the folks sayin"i'll never put a syringe tube on my ------,it came with fused quartz and that's the only thing I'll use"I hope facrless don't mind this post.I see so many posts about broken fused quartz tanks and nobody can keep any in stock,I haven't bought a spare tank yet and I have been useing the syringe tanks for over 8 months.

I think I may do this for the time being, but like Charger said, I love pluid and it's pretty much all I vape...Pluid doesn't play well with all the kiddies.

If you give up on it at any point PM me, I would do many evil nasty things to get an Envy lol.

aha. I will, but don't hold your breath. It's my baby, I'm just having to go through a few more diapers than usual. :/

SD and others that wanted to know I got a return pm from kathy at bedazzle and she does use fused quartz on her tanks
I have ordered 4 and she said a few days.

I will do a video when I get them in :)

Thanks Crash! Charger has been nice enough to help get me one of his replacements. I will check that out, because I apparently need backups :p

No argument at all that Bert knows his stuff.

I make no claim as to who / which is right, honestly, I think the answer lies in the manufacturing prepping process for either myself...

I think the key is what you said earlier about properly annealing the Pyrex.

I've had Pyrex on another genesis with no issues at all.

Actually, I've not personally had any issues with either material breaking or stress fracturing, so, for the time being, I'm rather impartial.

I do know that I'll take any kind of glass over plastics any day. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I beleive that was started by Zen and while he is a great innovator Bert has a degree in Glassblowing and is a scientific glassblower by trade.

Just looking at SDoom's pic .... and I am NOT an expert, but it looks like an o-ring/top-plate issue to me.
Moorea, of Phiniac, spoke a couple of times about how the outward pressure on the glass tanks GREATLY influences breakage. Even a tiny amount makes a huge difference.

The way the tank broke looks really indicative of outward pressure from the upper o-ring. Maybe the top-plate expanded a teeny bit from heat, and the replacement o-ring added just that tiny amount needed.

I figured this, was a joke (mostly lol) I could tell from prvious posts that even if you gave up on vaping it, it'll still only leave your posession due to a clause in your will, possibly not even then lol.

maybe I should close some tabs down
Do you use Morning Coffee ? My son picks on me for having lots of tabs open, but I try to ignore him. :)

I'd agree Blu. It was defiantly due to me dry burning, I guess, too long. I'm not worried at all, I feel at full fault.

Another question everyone: I have been using a drill bit to make coils, but its a little small. What size do I need to use the Peter k method correctly.

I am still new at this, but I use a 1/8th, which I believe is 3.2 mm. That's on an AGA-T, so Im not sure if that works for an ihybrid.

please get this on the spreadsheet, I'm going to need it one day lol.

The reason I posted the info in like I did, was so it would be easier to put it there :)

1 more day!!!!!!!!

Congrats KT, and I want to see pictures!!!

I wonder why everyone (mod makers) are using FQ anyway... It is so fragile - Isn't Pyrex a better choice? Is it a cost issue?

I do remember at one point Fac was checking into the glass and even the colored tubes. If I remember right it wasn't so much a cost issue for him as it was no one was willing to make them.

Whew! Finally caught up (for now)!

I might be willing to vape, read e-books, use a computer, but I still want my "Morning Coffee" in my cup!!

So today I noticed my juice turning darker. Multimeter said 1.3, which I thought was a way to test for shorts and other problems. Decided to just take off the coil and rewrap. Got it wrapped, everything is even. No bright shinning spots anywhere, and here's where things get good. POP! You know, sometimes when juice sputters. Nope, the f'ing tank popped. I am beyond ....... I'm going to Taco Bell, getting some Doritos locos tacos and going to sleep. 2 in one week(one my fault, one idk). I guess RBA's aren't my thing :(

Now my Envy looks like a freaking penis... Before anyone asks, I'm not posting this for someone to send me a tank to help out :/ I just suck with these, completely I guess. I've never heard of ANYONE having this problem when dry burning

That blows chunks SD, would be curious to know what actually happened, some days the stars just align against us...

Here's something to keep in mind regarding hot spots on your coil...

The hot coil you see up top, may not be cause by that coil. Its actually quite likely being caused by one of the other coils...

The best thing for a new coil really is to fire it and get them glowing evenly with a empty tank so that you can get them all glowing.

If you do it with juice in there, and you don't see the vapor pouring from ALL of the coils pretty evenly, you've got a short... Keep nudging them around (carefully when firing sometimes works best) until they all glow or produce evenly.

You should also notice them starting to blacken with use pretty evenly. If you have a few black coils and one or two still pretty clean, you've got a short still...

Wrapping the very bottom coil too tight is also a pretty common issue with the first few coils.

If the coil itself is in good shape, there really shouldn't be a need to put a bend in either the positive or negative leads, that trick is really just helping to hide the actual short.

If you find the first tank is kind of rough, and the coil needs to "break in", that means you have a short that's working itself out... A well wrapped coil should taste great from the start.

I'm a much bigger fan of finding and fixing the problems than hiding them. :2c:

Another good one for troubleshooting shorts from Vapor2112 that would be good to have in the reference...
