Don't sell the PAPS short. It's a great mod with a pretty much bullet proof switch.

Interesting...

I know a lot of people are a fan of it but I've found the GUS and probably PAPS to be problematic(I've not used my paps):

1) The spring on the 510 end loses about .3 volts under load. The second the spring was gone the voltage picked up by .32.
2) The switch is hard to get into for cleaning, and cleaning it inside did reduce the resistance of the switch. That C-Clip in the GUS telescope is not easily user removable.

I'm a bit picky about passing current though, most people might not care or notice.

I haven't tried to take the switch apart. I can see how it would take some "doing". I haven't checked for a voltage drop either. One thing I know, though. Every time I push the button, I get clouds. That switch never fails.

EDIT FOR BACKGROUND: I cut my mechanical mod/genesis teeth on a device with a less than reliable switch. I may just not have a good basis for comparison.

Yeah, I have the 18500 and 18650 tubes for my Gus, but I would like to find the 18350 tube. I could buy directly from the source, but I refuse to pay more in shipping than the cost of the part... :(

No doubt the telescope fires each and every single time. It's a very good switch that doesn't falter on firing, due to short throw and nice contact points.

My statement was only in reference to the voltage loss. Luckily the telescope, because it's a telescope, doesn't need to the spring for any battery larger then a 350 as you can simply ratchet the telescope tighter. Not sure about the PAP's yet, I'll get around to using them one day.

A question for the veteran Hybreeds:

My wick and coil seem to be doing well. I'm getting good flavor and decent vapor. I've got a 4wrap of 30ga and everything seems good BUT... I'm getting discolored juice pooling in the bottom of my tank. I'm assuming this has to do with my wick. Do I need to roll another one with less of a channel in the center? It's #500 and I believe I started with 2x2" as per grruss's advice I've seen posted here and elsewhere.

Over wicking maybe? Get a tiny piece of mesh and roll it up. Put it inside the channel in your wick

What did you do in place of the spring?
Screw?
Relocated it?

I have a couple of Gus's...and am interested

Don't have an iHybrid yet but just got some Sharkhide in the coop for my shiny PVs and they look great. For a good cleaning I use either my ultrasonic jewelry cleaner or buy a small container of the jewelry cleaner that is made for cleaning gold jewelry. I just use vaseline on the threads as the noalox is just gross to me.

I got the Sharkide in that co-op too, and I am really happy with it. It works very well on the iHy's. And brass! OMG it really wakes that up.

Yup, sharkhide is the shiz nit! I got mine from the coop too and I am loving it.

As far as the Gus telescopic goes, you can replace the spring with a small brass screw and get a tight fit with the 18350 without any rattle or gap in the telescope. I forgot the size of the screw but it should be easily found at most fastener stores. It just needs to be short enough with the right threads to get it to fit nicely in the hole.
