gotcha. I've been suspecting the microcoil method might speed up and even out the heating of the coil, but also increases the chance of dry hits.

Seems with NETs at least, that the tight micro coil causes the wick to gunk up faster right at the coil, stopping wicking. This way seems to halp spread that out so as to prolong vape time before rewicking.. I'm gonna pull it apart tonight after 3 tanks and check. I'll post pics.

I have to replace my cotton wick almost every night :/ I'd like to be better at building with ekowool, but I get a lot of dry hits (which is a pain in the A**). I use a 2mm microcoil build at .7 to .8 and get good flavor and it wicks very well with cotton, just gets burnt at the coil and I have to dry burn the coil and rewick with fresh cotton. I gently twist just the right amount of cotton, pull through the microcoil, and trim just enough to fluff generously and untwist it. Maybe I'm using just a tad too much cotton?

Well.. here the pic of the wick and coil after 3 tanks of a NET... Now remember, this is after 3 tanks and the taste was falling off about 2/3rds the way through the 3rd.. Not bad considering most people only get one tank normally and less than a tank on NETs.. It IS really funky gunky though.. so would still recommend changing every tank full when using NETs..

could be too much cotton, would cause dry hits. I make my coils 1.4 to 1.7 ohms (my vamo cuts off at 1.2), 30 gauge, 6 wraps, use small blue phillips head - aprox. 5/64. works good for me. re-wick after 2 or 3 days. they say to use enough cotton so it pulls thru the coil with a just little tension and doesn't bunch up. I like the ideas of not compressing the coil and raising it a more than 1mm above the airhole. gonna give those a try next time. good luck :2cool:

It looks gross but NET's are oh so good, that said that is the dirtiest NET I have ever seen.

To the OP, would you post a picture of your deck so we can judge if the juice channels are correct?

To everyone who is saying the OP isn't doing it right, you do understand they are using silica wick....how good does your Kayfun taste wicked with silica...no better than a clearomizer.

are you pinching the coil at all...or leaving it be like one would when building up a silica wick? besides the lack of dry hits, any drop in flavor/vapor production/TH/etc?
No.. no pinching... The flavor, vapor and TH are all improved, actually.

Thanks both of you for the tip I pich hard, will try the no pich. What size drill bit are you using and kanthal?

Ugh. And then there is Boba's bounty. This is after 4ml at 15 watts

Glad I'm not the only one :)

I think the pic I posted wasnt so bad after more than 13ml or so. Looking at Boba's, not bad at all.

regal, I used 30ga around a toothpick (~2mm) for that build. 10 wraps.. came to 1.7ohm.

Nobody has a comment about organic cotton being dangerous to vape or has that horse been beat to death. Have not read the entire thread yet if someone has.

I stopped paying attention to any of that. There's a new thing every week that's dangerous to eat. I'm sure they can find something bad for you with everything.

Like my father said, life kills. I took pain meds (diclofenac) for half my life, and last month as I had a heart attack I found out that diclofenac is one of the most cardiotoxic pain meds available today. Nobody warned, just warned about heartburn and stomach problems.

I'm a production engeneer and know what goes into the production of cotton. Organic cotton is not meant by any means to be heated up to the temps to what we vape. It's simply unbleached and sometimes (not usually) not grown organically, meaning some pesticides are still used. I know it's easier to build a microcoil and just change the cotton, but do yourself a favor: don't vape on cotton.

Is doing a normal coil where the coils are more spaced out better for Kayfun? I've been doing the micro coil thing on mine but I remember doing a normal coil my first try and it wasn't that bad. I just went to micro because I thought it would be a lot lot better and always wanted to improve it. Maybe I will try it later.

3 turns of 32ga Kanthal will give you 1.6 ohms, around 5 of 30 ga will give you more or less the same. I make all of my coils that way, and vape them in regulated mods at about 10W

I agree, but for me, some builds just come out better than others. I think three components are necessary for a successful Kayfun build... I think the single most important thing to get right, is to determine the right thickness/length of wick material.

I use rolled cotton. Small variations in wick mean the difference between a successful/unsuccessful build. I had to play a bit with wicking to get it right. I learned that different juices require more/less wick material, depending on the viscosity of the juice.

I think coil height is the second most important thing to get right is coil- one to two mm's centered directly above the air hole is critical.

lastly- adjusting the correct air ratio. Too tight and flooding can be an issue; too loose and dry hits can be an issue...

if I get these things right, while overcoming the challenge of securing my coils with tapered post screws, I'm never disappointed. ..

FYI on the tapered post screws- I just put one full wrap around the screws and the wire stays secure. This can get a little tricky but practice makes perfect (until I can find bottoming screws)

Happy Vaping my friends!

Viscosity is crucial on the Kayfun. 60/40 seems the ideal ratio, still I have to pump it way up to get the vapor I want and the liquid not taste burnt. Also, darker liquids work much better than clearer liquids. With those I get better flavor and pump the wattage up without any problems.

Meanwhile, I loaded up the Terminator in it's short form, 1.4 ohm coil. Clear 70/30 Liqua coffee. Tastes like coffee, not the sweet and coffee aftertaste I get on the Kayfun.

I don't use cotton. It's full of pesticides and bleach. I prefer my old trusty silica or ekowool for my builds.

I'll take my chances with medical grade sanitized cotton over silica, Silica fibre and glass fibre are essentially synonyms, both being made of
tiny strands of silicon dioxide - glass.

Naturally grown then cleaned fabric that man has used in medicine and food prep, for hundreds of years if not longer just sounds safer to me than either natural or chemically made fibers.
I was trying to be moderately amusing. I have a bigger chance of having issues from pesticides eating a salad than using a bag of cotton a year on vaping, without tasting glue or using a material made of tiny shards if glass.
But thank you for you concern.

This.

The true end of this argument is that our lungs aren't intended to inhale anything but good clean AIR.
