A lot of kayfun clones don't have the vacuum system properly sealed. I suffered through that for months trying to figure out what I was doing. The usual source is through the 510 pin, particularly clones with adjustable pins.

Put your finger over the airhole and suck in through the mouthpiece. If your getting even the slightest bit of air moving, you have a vacuum leak. It tends to be so slight, you may not notice it at first because it won't be enough to cause a straight up leak while vaping. It will be enough however to cause slight leaking while filling and poor wicking which leads to dry hits.

Yes clones are another variable among many to simply say you suck at building is a bit nearsighted. My guess is most comments like that are vaping a light in the loafers juice like raibow candy cane or fruity pepples, etc

I agree partially, but take cars for an example, how many cars would Ford be selling if you still had to hand crank to start the motor? The KFL is absolutely fabulous when built right but maybe just maybe there is some changes that could make builds more consistent, they are at what version 3. There is always room for improvement, that's how Toyota took down GM. Continuous improvement.
That analogy applies to Kanger and Aspire products much more than it does to a Kayfun.

The Kayfun is sold and marketed as a product intended for "advanced" vapors. It's more like buying a high quality car chassis intended for use by motorcar mechanics. You get a really good chassis manufactured by pros (so long as you actually buy the original), but it's your responsiblity to take this thing and make it into a good car.
Can it be better? Sure. But it is what is. And it's not like the manufacturer is telling you that it's something it actually isn't.

And as you said, when you build this thing properly, it produces a stellar vape.

On the other hand, when you go in and get a 20 dollar clone from China and then end up less than satisfied with whatever build you slap on it, you really have noone to blame but yourself. And that's essentially what this thread is.

I'm not bashing or trying to diss the OP in any way. However, complaining about a clone not working like he think it should and then pretty much brushing off attempts from people who come in trying to offer help and advice doesn't seem like a good way to go about it all, at least in my eyes. And I'm not seeing how this can lead to anything productive. Saying something along the lines of "Meh... Kayfun really ain't all that." when this is the method you approach it with working on a first batch FT clone just seems kind of counterproductive to me.

Huge difference between having difficulty building an atty, vs having difficulty building an atty and then blaming it though.

Don't think anyone would have an issue against the former.

So no one here, or the other threads ever said 'Learn how to build!', or 'Learn to build, dont blame the KF.. Its GREAT!', or 'You just suck at building coils.'..???? Ok... I have said myself that the KF is not the 'end all be all' of tanks and got slapped down for it.. Even though I now have a build that lasts longer than most for longevity....

Vacuum leaks through the 510 pin don't cause leaking. It just lets air into the vapor chamber which is already open to air through the drip tip. My 3.1 (clone) leaks there and doesn't gurgle or leak a bit. Maybe a drop of liquid ends up in the lower catch chamber after a couple tanks. It isn't a real vacuum leak.
However, any leak through an O ring or the fill screw will cause flooding, gurgling and leaking. These leaks remove the vacuum from the main liquid holding chamber. This vacuum is what keeps the juice from filling the vapor chamber and flooding.
On a related note. I read that a solution to dry hits was to loosen the top cap and let a big bubble of air enter the chamber. This is premised on the assumption that the vacuum is too strong for the wicking to work. This works but is awkward. I tried enlarging the juice channels but this was hard to get right. Now, when I get a dry hit, I just cover the air intake and blow into the drip tip. This releases a big bubble into the juice chamber, releasing some vacuum. It is a lot easier than loosening the top cap. I only have to do this on some of my kayfuns and with some of my juices. Hope this helps some others.

3.1's don't have the same type of center pin as KFL's. In KFL's there is not catch chamber. Sometimes it can come out of the airhole on a KFL Clone with a poorly sealed center-pin when you top fill. Ie., the reason your cover the airhole with your finger when top filling. You lose the vacuum when you open the topcap and gravity does it's job. I suppose you could also cover the 510 pin.. would be awkward

The reason you get poor wicking on clones with poorly sealed center pins is because instead of simply pulling juice into the channels, you are instead pulling air in from the center pin. This means less suction drawing juice in.

It occurs to me now that I may not have stated that I was specifically referring to KFL's and not 3.1's. I apologize for that.

There's no such thing as an "authentic" Russian. It's nothing more than a well made Kayfun clone with a different name and a higher price.

That's inaccurate, it isn't simply a clone. It added adjustable airflow on the side where it belongs IMO, it is an improvement over the original.

Of course there is an authentic Russian by Kebo, there isn't an "original".

That said I would purchase an authentic KFL+ from SvoMesto for about $99 before I would shell out $92 for the R91%.

It's a clone with a side airflow, but it's still a clone.

The SvoëMesto Kayfun is the original, and Kebo doesn't make the Russian.

I scarcely know where to begin with the any of what I've read:

Fad
Trend
A fad is any form of behavior that develops among a large population and is collectively followed enthusiastically for a period of time, generally as a result of the behavior being perceived as popular ... Wikipedia

I don't see it.

As to the authenticity of the Russian 91- it is in fact an authentic. Call it what you will; and taking all arguments into account from the anti-cloners:"call it something different,""make a small change,""don't use the 'sm' logo." The Russian meets all of these.
You can't have it both ways.
-unless you're David Bowie (I kid I joke)
i really don't care about who uses what, for whatever. I use what i like. Everyone should.

That was a poor attempt of humore that if you aren't tough enough to be vaping nets anyone can build a KFL that works :)

I wanted to personally thankyou. I followed your formuka of no pinching, etc and my $18 Fastech KFL gave a beautiful build for my H&H blueberry DIY net.

Also wanted to make sure that the $20 and under KFL specials at Fastech seem fine but they come with no tools, extra SS tank, etc, its really bare bones but the quality is great I didn't enven have to upgrade the electrode screws.

Cool! Glad you tried it and it works.. NETs really are hard on coils and wicks and this setup seem to be giving the best flavor, vapor, and longevity.. Just rewicked the same coil and went though 2 tanks on the same wick.

I didn't read through the entire thread but thought I would throw my 2 cents in. My first KFL+ clone came to me as part of a trade deal and it worked pretty decent (miles ahead of my old vivi nova). I just purchased a new clone and it wicks so much better. I'm sure others have mentioned that not all clones are created equal. Just thought I would throw that out there. Some problems may be a result of manufacturing issues and not coil or wicking skills. And of course, taste is subjective and not everyone is looking for the same TH, vapor production, or flavor profiles. Be happy with whatever works best for you!

Until something comes along that is truly better than a KF (easier to build, even more reliable, better flavor and vapor and cheaper) I don't think the Kayfun will go anywhere. And it will come. There have been so many promised KF killers as of late it is just a matter of time before somebody produces something that beats the KF on all counts.

The paradigms shift all the time.

We really are just scratching the surface of the horse and buggy phase of development.

You are 100.% right, new stuff comes out all the time and manufacturers are always taking ideas and sometimes making them better ..... Sometimes not. I will not call it a kayfun killer BUT my squape reloaded is a real winner. I happen to like it a lot more than my kayfuns, and if you are looking for an easy build, NOTHING is easier than the squape r IMHO

Since you seem like a straight shooter. I wanted to pose a question.

I loaded up an Aerotank Mega today. And I think as far as flavor its neck and neck with the KFL. I guess I still would prefer the KFL not being held hostage to $2 coils. But was interested in hearing opinions on flavor KFL vs Aero Mega.

Just as I figure out a consistant build for the KFL I discovered big drippers, wow that's the way to go.

Well Im VERY experienced with the KF and spent the afternoon with an Aeromega.

The Aeromega EASILY has the best flavor of any clearo out there. Of course that is like saying McDonald's has the best fries out of any fast-food chain (actually Popeye's does).

I should add that the Aero I tried was modified. First of all, it was rebuilt with microcoils and cotton (which IMO is much harder to set up right than a Kayfun is) AND it had its airflow drilled out.

Even at all that, I would say its flavor was about 70% of an average Kayfun.
Again, impressive for a clearly but not so much in the larger scope of things.

I will also mention that even though the AFC was opened up the draw was still very tight. Again, not shocking for a clearo.

A good buy for a beginner/intermediate vaper or for somebody that has no desire to build at all. But for any experienced vaper that is competent at building I would say pass.
