This is an older answered prayer, but I want to share it. Most of the time God gives you what you need as opposed to what you want. This is an example of asking for what I needed, and got exactly what I wanted too. Last fall, I took a part time job. It was about 30 minutes away from our house and the hours were 9am to 4pm, M-F. We only had the one vehicle, the mini van. If I took the van to work, my husband was without a vehicle during business hours. He was self-employed doing woodworking; his workshop was 20 minutes away in the opposite direction of my job. If he drove me to and from work, it shortened his work day by two hours and cost about $70 a week in gas.
We needed another car. I asked God for a car; one that was dependable, got good gas mileage, and cost less than $1200. That's it. Nothing more specific than that because that was all I needed. So we started shopping around for cars. My husband thought a Toyota Carolla would suit me. They are small and known to be very dependable. I wanted another Geo Metro. I had one years ago and loved it (everybody else hated it though) I wanted a stick shift. I prefer a stick, my husband does not. He is a truck driver and does not want to deal with an manual outside of a truck; so we were shopping for an automatic. I wanted a four-door, because we have kids, and two doors are a pain to let passengers in and out of. I wanted something that looked good - not good as in cute and stylish, but good as in doesn't look like a cheap, beat up, old used car. We shopped for a while and didn't find anything that fit even the minimum requirements.
Wednesday night, we put on the prayer list my need for a cheap but dependable car. That was all we said and everybody prayed for "cheap and dependable" nothing more. The following Sunday morning, our friend Doug came up to us. He lives in the next city, almost an hour away. Friday or Saturday, he saw his neighbor put a car in their driveway and put a "for sale" sign on it. Doug thought it might suit me, so we went down to look at it the next day. We were hoping that it would suffice, but not expecting anything great. The neighbor's dad developed some medical problems and needed a new car with all the automatic stuff; transmission, doors, widows, all the bells and whistles. The neighbor was selling his old car for him. It was a Geo Prizm, which is a Toyota Carolla with a Geo sticker on it. Made by Toyota, but sold as the next model up from a Metro in the Geo line. It was a stick shift. It had four doors. It had been well-maintained and was mechanically sound. The only thing cosmetically wrong with it was a few little nicks in the paint from flying gravel and such. You don't expect a '95 to be perfect, but there were no dents or rust. It even had new tires and four new matching hubcaps. She was asking $1400 but would take $1200. The color didn't matter to me, but I am sure if I had a color preference, it would have been the right color, too.
We bought it the next day when the DMV opened. In six months, I have only had to replace the battery, change the oil, and put $25 worth of gas in it a week. There is no doubt in my mind that God hand delivered that car to me. He just delivered it to Doug's house instead of mine, but He knew Doug would deliver the message that my car had arrived.
