respiratory therapists...yes the ones who give neb treatments, suction trach's and manage ventilators and intubate etc, are the biggest smokers, and i should know cuz i have worked as a medical professional for almost two decades and at MANY hospitals.
what people just dont understand, the work can be very stressful. when i worked for years in Emergency Medicine, i was smoking in the ambulance bay every change i got between traumas/codes.

Its ironic how many unhealthy people you find working in a hospital. 5 years ago when I started working at the hospital I'm currently at I couldn't believe all the smokers employed (me being one also at the time). Not to mention all the folks that are out of shape.

Not having to die from a smoking related illness. Not having to rob my piggy bank between pay periods for smokes. Not having to shell out $150 a week to burn up (that's how much it took to support the habit for both hubby and me). Not having to let necessities in life take a back seat to my habit. Not having stiff hair. Having softer hair was one of the first things I noticed when I quit smoking, amazing how quickly tar builds up on the hair shaft between shampoos. Not having to miss work with respiratory infections. Not having to drive to the state line twice a week. And not feeling like a second class citizen.

The Good

The biggest thing for me so far is my extreme delight in my restoring sense of smell; I'm very passionate about food and even more-so now

I'm also very anti-litter, I would never throw a ..... I no longer worry about grabbing the .... from my car ashtray each time I park or stinking to high-heaven from a back-pocket full of butts (well, cigarette butts)

At work I can:
-Vape in the vehicles
-Vape near combustibles
-Vape on properties
-Not be paired with "Stinky"
-Not washing my hands and face before working around executives, feeling more attractive (of course they are all women)
-Not getting called a hypocrite almost every day for eating health food and doing yoga while smoking
-Not feeling guilty for sneaking smokes
-No more urge to smoke or vape every opportunity I get, because I can do it pretty much all the time

In public, I:
-vape at the grocery store, hardware store, liquor store and library
-vape in bars
-approach women who aren't smoking
-buy less random items at the corner store to bring my cigarette purchase up to $10 so I can charge it
-am even more eccentric

At home, I:
-vape at the computer
-vape in bed

The Bad
-I don't use deodorant (I do shave my armpits), now when I get sweaty I can't just try and cover it up with smoke. Lost a quick & convenient way to cover up other undesirable smells, too
-I've fallen back in love with scotch, now that I can really appreciate the full bouquet of flavors, and have switched to drinking the good stuff
-I spend *way* more money on vaping than cigarettes and see it only getting worse
-Getting tonsilitis on the constant
-Dripping and Driving is pretty dangerous

ZERO to HERO Being the new hero at family and social gatherings! I have gotten 4 family members to switch to E cigs they were so blown away that me of all people actually stopped smoking ciggarettes that they all were convinced it would work for them. my aunt must have thanked me a 100 times with tears in her eyes for getting my uncle and cousin (who was recently disagnosed with emphasema and asthma) to switch.
What poetic justice..!!!

What a great thread! I recognized so many things from my list too!

Here's mine, and I hope not to repeat other's posts too much:

I love not having to hear the line "You're a dancer, and you SMOKE?!?" from my students. (And often the subsequent lecture.)

I love being able to dance and talk at the same time in class with so much more ease. And I enjoy all exercise so much more now that I'm not fighting my "handicap".

I love that my facebook friends (many of them my students) encourage me as I continue to go smoke free.

I love not having to apologize for my nasty habit anymore.

I love not singeing my eyebrows by getting a little too close to my lighter.

I love not worrying about burning my house down.

I love putting together snazzy color combos with my ecig batteries, LED, atomizers, and carts, then laughing at myself because I don't really vape in public so who's going to see?

I love getting a new e-cig order in the mail, which will have new flavors and colors, instead of the same old shipment of cartons of tobacco.

I love that whenever I'm having trouble with e-cigs, or not smoking, this community exists, and I feel supported.

After 8 or so hours of vaping almost exclusively, I can breathe easier, without coughing! For months my asthma was starting to really bother me, even carried an inhaler around so in case I laughed too hard I could catch the coughing fit early and be able to breathe.. and now.. for the first time.. in years.. I can finally take a full breath in without coughing.. I can breathe!

I can't wait till i don't smell like smoke anymore.
My daughter can kiss mommy without having to wait.
My 8 month old isn't going to have to smell that stench of mommy and daddy anymore.
I want to punch anyone in the face that tries and tells someone electric cigarettes are bad.

I can relate to almost everything that was posted by everyone else, so I'll just add three new ones.

1, Watching those smarmy, obnoxious, sanctimonious, preachy anti-smoking public service announcements and not feeling like a FREAKING LEPER!!

2, Not missing part of a movie in the theater by being able to stealth vape IS THE BOMB!

3, Listening to the greedy politicians talking about raising the taxes on cigarettes yet again and being able to LAUGH about it!

Took my daughter to the dentist yesterday and stepped outside while they took her back for a quick couple of vapes.
was nice knowing I was not going to smell when I went back inside.
Stood next to the "No Smoking on Premises' sign and vaped, ha-ha. Nice not having to go all the way out to the sidewalk by the street.
When I got out there it was windy, after all the years of conditioning from smoking, first thought I had was glad I don't have to try lighting a smoke in this wind.
Second thought was, wow, despite the wind I could still see vape when I exhaled.
