Well, I'm sure I may ruffle a few feathers here, but calling it vapor instead of smoking is arguing semantics. It's like me telling someone my computer is better than theirs when all they use it for is web browsing... as far as they are concerned they're the same thing. Someone who is anti smoking may not like smoking for a range of reasons, one being the carcinogens being inhaled, another being addiction. We are trading one method of enabling an addiction for another, there is no "kinda" about it. Even if we are going about it in a healthier way there is a horrible stigma with having a chemical addiction, and not just plain stopping the behavior. It is vapor, it isn't nearly as harmful, but it still isn't considered "right".
...

I'm happy I found a way to continue to consume nicotine without the ill health effects (so far) and never had any intentions of quitting even when I did try, and honestly could give a flyin F if someone else has a critical opinion of this.

I agree completely. I'm not sure how so many people here think they're not smokers anymore or quit smoking. I think you're fooling yourselves . Take away the ecigarette and put a pack of real cigs in front of yourself I think many will end up puffing away within the first 5 hours.

I had no desire to quit, I enjoy smoking, this just lets me do it with less harm to myself.
I completely consider myself a smoker though. Effectively I'm still smoking, it just PG vapor instead of burned tobacco.

The only thing you could 'smoke' in an electronic cigarette is burned hardware (doing it wrong).

Additionally, personal opinion does not make fact.

Welcome to the forum.

And stummies "...it still isn't considered "right"."
Says who?

Splitting hairs, my point was if you're vaping you haven't really 'quit' much of anything. The addiction and the act and the habit still remain, just the medium has changed.

wow thats right up there with the sister(or SIL) who wants to make them illegal b/c they are a sin!

She does realize that not everyone in this country practices her religion, right? She should also look at how great things are in countries where religion dictates what everyone can and can't do. ;)

Just want to say hi as this is my first post on the forum.

May i propose an idea regarding your borthers abhorrance towards the idea of smoking? We need to understand that their is a large differnce between the denotative term 'smoking' which is the inhalation of burning tobacco and the connotative idea of smoking which is harder to define.

It may be that your brother realises that you are no longer smoking tobacco but realises that you are still very much acting the role of a smoker. Which is to say ingesting nicotine as a result of an addiction. While vaping is very much agreed to be healthier we can not expect people who have not experianced it or researched it to fully understand the differnence.

In the end while we realise that we are no longer smoking others may not understand it this way because the idea of smoking is more complex and deeply rooted in peoples way of thinking than can simply be explained away. Maybe its best to just remember that we switched to vaping for our own good instead of trying to explain it to others?

Thats just my two cents anyway.

These family threads remind me why it's great to be an only child.

To the OP: You are an adult and you do not need the approval of your brother. If he needs someone to be in charge of, let him go have kids. If he already has them, please remind him to redirect his moralistic attention to them. Your role is to provide as bad an influence as possible to make his job as a parent that much harder. He is no better than you, and it is curious that people like him seem to so desperately need affirmation that no matter what shortcomings they may have, at least they aren't doing (insert behavior)________ like that guy over there.

So what if I'm trading one behavior for another? Really, so what? That doesn't make both behaviors equally dangerous to myself or others. Who is he or anyone else to decide what other people should enjoy? I like jumping out of airplanes and sleeping outside in the summer. I also play with snakes and know how to bellydance. It doesn't bother me if other people don't like these same things.

I'm also not interested in a 100% risk free life....frankly, people who have no vices at all lack texture and are quite boring. I also take issue with people who are paranoid about 2nd hand vapor because they can't be 100% sure of what's in it, yet they drive big ... SUVs without a care in the world as to how their choice is funding the Saudis, wasting resources, or polluting the oh so valuable air that I have to breathe. How much disposable, non-biodegradable crap do these people purchase? How many of these busybodies are overweight? I guess I should get up in the business of everyone who wants to have more than one kid since they are making a negative impact on the environment, too, huh?

We really need a 'middle finger' emoticon around here.

I have a friend kind of like this. She used to be a heavy smoker sometime before I met her, but now she can't stand the slightest wisp across her path. Smoke doesn't make her cough or sniffle, but she says it severely hurts her lungs. She's not been diagnosed with any particular problem at all and can be quite a drama queen anyway, so I think she just doesn't want to smell it. Fair enough. At any rate, at the outside events where I see her, I smoke around her several feet away and down wind and that usually works out. I told her on the phone about my PV and the VG, etc. She's already decided, and is adamant, that it will still bother her just as much if she catches a wiff of it. What can you do?

On the other hand, I have another friend who is very sensitive to smoke and she thought it was a great idea. After using it okay in the car with her, she told me to go ahead and use it in her teeny home office (maybe 10x10). Unfortunately the vapor did get to her after about 20 mins, so I stopped, easy enough. She couldn't smell it, but she had started a lot of throat clearing. No attitude at all, she was just being honest, and now I know that in small closed areas, too much might bother someone.

Different people, different attitudes. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to be reasonable.

I like to patronize their responses while I'm doing exactly what they are fussing about, right in their face. Pissing them off for your own personal enjoyment may seem like childish trolling, but hey, if they can't logically reason out a benefit coming from a positive thing, then it comes down to my personal motto of "ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer."

I had something similar today - there is this waitress where I eat lunch 4 days a week, she is not very bright and is somewhat ticked with me anyway because I told her she was stupid for dating a 19 yo guy when she's 10 years older than him AND she is in a long custody battle (with the divorce not yet final). Anyhow... I had mentioned to my server that it was weird how different the pickles tasted since I stopped smoking and he mentioned that at the register as I left. The same waitress was standing there and said "she didn't quit smoking, she's still smoking that vapor thing." There were people around so I did bother giving her the full Monty that I wished, but I did say: "a) it is nicotine replacement just like nicotine gun and patches, b) I am SMOKING nothing and c) you are a little b*tch!" stupid girl lol :D

Edit: ok, to be very honest, I also added "and I least I don't snort stuff up my nose" :p
