This post is for all you folks who have complained about the bogus switch
on the Prodigy V2.
Well, I placed a order for the new improved switch which they will be used on their up-coming V2.1 and it's said to be retrofit to the earlier models.

Has anyone received and tried the new switch on their V2 yet?

Is it easy to install, and, more important, does it solve the old "no contact" issue?

I would love to hear your comments :)

Did you order the whole switch upgrade (stainless, fully entrapped button) or the free upgrade kit (stainless posts/o-ring only)?

I'm still awaiting the free upgrade kit, but it should be easy enough to install using the instructions here:

How To: Install Prodigy V2 Upgrade Kit

There have been a few posts in the PureSmoker subforum here from people who have installed the upgrade and are reporting better hits. The kit will alleviate the problem of oxidation on the original aluminum posts, which, along with the original silicone ring that warped, was causing the inconsistent contact.

If you're talking about the entire 2.1 switch upgrade, it should be a simple remove/swap of the whole switch/button. The old one comes out easily when you remove the adapter. Then you just slide the new one in.

Yep, I bought the whole switch which was about $40.00!!
They said the wait time is about 3 weeks, same as for the new V2.1.

Now that I think about it, maybe I could have gotten a discount!?

Thanks for the link, I had not seen that before.

After you get the new one, I'll be interested in hearing how it works. I got my standard upgrade switch and it didn't work any better for me. For now, my V2 is sitting in the "oh well" pile in case my niece or someone else needs the other parts. But if the new switch truly works, I'd love to have mine working again even if it does cost me money.

I'm expecting a Protege 1.1, which also uses the new switch. So I'm waiting until I get it to see if I want the same one for my Prodigy V2.

SudokuGal, what issues are you having? I'm asking because I was having slight issues last night. I took it apart and checked the contact posts again to no avail. (I had already installed an o-ring and rotated the posts so the round part was facing out.) Then I looked at the copper contact under the adapter. It was very dirty. I wiped it with a q-tip, and it started working fine again. I know it might be grasping, but it's worth a look to see if yours is dirty too.

From what I gather the new V2.1 switch is no different other than the button and outer housing is stainless.

The button is also supposedly completely entrapped, so it won't wiggle around when you press it. I think the theory is that it will result in more consistent contact since it won't wiggle or shift. I guess I'll find out when my 1.1 arrives.

I did all that stuff too, worked for a little while, then, zippo!!
Here is how I did a longer lasting fix (lasted a few weeks anyway!!)

You know that little metal ring that makes the contact with the posts?
Well, remove it, and using a very fine grit sandpapper, polish the "contact" side and put it back on. If you can get some contact enhancer, you can brush a little on all the contacts and that works great (again, for a while!!).
Doing all that, (oh, and rotating the posts) made mine work for a few weeks. If you press the button down and get no contact, simply rotate the little black button about a 1/4 turn, then it shoud make contact again.

Of course, I want a PERMENENT fix!!

I'd have to seriously dismiss my morals and sense of self-worth to spend another $40 for a replacement switch that will probably not work any better than the 'barely functional' switch that was included in my original $80 purchase just a month ago.

My new rule: no more money on PS products until they resolve this once and for all. Bad enough I spent tons of money and time futzing with my V1 switches that constantly died. Isn't it time to get these working solid once and for all?

I dont mind spening the money if it works.

Why do you have such a negative attatude about it not working?
Do you have evidence/experience that the new switch is a waste?

I am sure they are doing all they can to correct issues and make their
customers happy and I have seen nothing to indicate otherwise.

I agree. From my experience, their level of customer service is top notch. If you're having issues, open a ticket on their site with Casey. She and Steve will take care of you.

Just be warned, though, that they are moving to a new location this week. So responses might be slower until they're settled in around the 28th.

First, why should we have to pay for a switch upgrade at all, especially when the original switch was so bad? They should be providing the new style switch for free. Yes, they will cut into their profits, but they will keep their customers.

I put the upgrade kit in my V2 and it was malfunctioning within 30 minutes. I asked for my money back and that didn't happen, but they did ask for it back so Steve could try to repair it.

I did read on the Puresmoker Vendor Forum here that people have been successful with using Noalox on the contacts, so when I get mine back, the first time it misfires I will put some on and see if that helps.

I got a Silver Bullet to replace the V2, and the difference is night and day. I've had the SB for over a week now and had no misfires at all.

I agree! I just wish I could get this thing to work consistently! I've tried everything suggested (except for Naolox and sandpaper) I'm going to try that next. I can get it to work beautifully for a week and I think it's great, then the misfires start out of nowhere .....I'm not about to send the thing back though...All I have are chinese 510 batteries and after using this thing, I can't go back..On an up note, I haven't blown an atty in a while :)

why should you have to buy a new switch?? doesn't make sense to me. you already paid for the item once. To pay half the price of again for a switch is ridiculous.. They could at least give you a break on it. Switches don't cost 40 bucks. A switch can't cost five bucks. What gives?? Live and learn. I will never deal with them again.

You will not get it.

The way this switch is designed you must perform maintenance on it.
End of story.

If you are looking for something that you don't have to clean polish and lube (Noalox) buy something else.

I own all of PS products, and break them all down once a week (regardless).
I enjoy trouble free vaping every day all day.

But can't the metallic ring only stand so much sanding down before it ultimately starts to deteriorate? Then what?

You don't really need to sand the heck out of it. I just sand it enough to get the tarnish off.

I also took the contact posts out with a pair of needle nose pliers, and dropped them in some muriatic acid to eat all the gunk off. They had a waxy film when I got it. After that I didn't have any misfires for a week, until the gunk built up on the contact posts again.

I hate the switch, but as long as you perform maintenance on it it'll work fine.
