Happy to hear her surgery went well. Cookies, ice cream and bingo should help the rehab time pass.

I like bingo; keeps me too busy to think about other stuff. Kind of like therapy for me. And cheaper than a trip to the ocean to listen to crashing waves which is my best relaxation technique.

Glad to hear the surgery went well! Best wishes for a speedy recovery for her. Cookies, ice cream, and bingo sound fun!

Thank you. :)

Ut-oh.
Ocelot, don't be mad, but I found something you might want.
It's the new dripper from RJ mods, and it's pricey. (here or here - don't know these vendors)

The first one, Break Time, is fine. I got a limited edition tube for my Turtleship from them. Also by RJ mods.

So with 4 posts, I guess your BASIC coil could be this:
279593d1386183531-post-pictures-your-working-wick-coil-setup-pc030343.jpg

But it's set up with 4 posts, so you can build things like this:
ragy7e2a.jpg

The problem is that if you do 4 coils, you're going to get very low resistance - likely way too low for a ProVari...

If you use 32 gauge, and wrap 3/32", multiple coils around 1.2 ohm are not difficult to hit.

Okay Drummer, here it is. It's a simple build, there a couple more complicated ones I play with, but this is my go-to, works everytime build.

My coils look almost the same as this one, but I use a bit less cotton threw the coil, and I put an extra piece over the top, my coils are 30 ga on a 5/64" drill bit, I try for a 2.0 to 2.5 OHM coil.

Uh, oh. I know how to direct drip, but how do RDAs work?

ETA: This second one has a drop down menu with numbers: 331, 332, etc. Any idea what those mean?

They are references to the grade of stainless steel.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stainless_steel

They work like any re-building atty. In my opinion, they are much easier to learn on and fiddle with. I am glad I was experienced with coil building when I got my KFL. There is much more room to operate on the coil configuration in models like the Helios and IGO T. This is important when you are learning, IMHO. All you need to do is make sure that your wick reaches the bottom of the deck from both sides, and let it rock. Cotton is finicky until you figure out the right density...but it is my favorite wick, well worth changing out every other day. Once you get used to it, it takes only a few minutes. Re-wicking is also much easier on many RDAs.

Get you a Helios, Highness. I bet you will love it.

CrimsonJack and SusieQ....way too much cotton in both your coils. Y'all have at least twice as much if not more as what you need for the KFL's..

The cotton should look like a shoe lace through the coil, not a bow-tie. :)

Good:

Bad:
bowties_black.jpg

The cotton in the coil expands when it's soaked with juice. If your cotton already overwhelms your coil when it's dry, it will choke it when it's soaked in juice and result in poor performance and/or provide a burnt flavour to the juice.

Hmmm, coiling/wicking advice, from one who has yet to master the vertical build?

Not to be argumentative, but mine works really well for me. I will add that I shot that close-up and it was dry cotton.

Different strokes for different folks bud. One does not need to master all builds to be able to advise on a certain one. ;)

Fair enough, however, our "heavy wickers" might say the same...is it not so?

EDIT: I technically agree with you, by the way, Maestro. It looks like that would compromise your air flow to me...but if they like it, it could work for some others who are struggling with more traditional wick methods.

Good enough. Would you mind if I ask what PG/VG ratio you use in your juices, as well as what your primary juice is?

An apt question!

I bet they use high PG juices...

I find I need a bit more wick with my Tasty Vapors, which I cannot get much more than a ratio of 40/60 VG/PG...

For me, I chain vape. The wicking I use keeps up with me. I have no air flow issues, and that actually is a fraction of the original wicking from the first build on it (which I did not do). I am not the master coiler, and am still learning how to do this stuff without flirting with vape shop personnel for help. Although I do listen to everyone's tips, I gotta do what works for me. :)

Can't remember if you're on the micro-coil thread or not (apologies), but the heavy wick has been identified as one of the main reasons for coil choking and loss of flavour. That's how the "less is more" term was coined. But, at the end of the day, it all boils down to what works for the person using the device.

It is 70PG/30VG or 80PG/20VG. I cannot give the vendor without a wrist slap from a mod as they are banned from ECF. But I mostly vape fruit flavors that are clear or lightly colored.

I see from your next post that you are using very high PG juices. I understand why you wick in this fashion. If it works for you, that is really all that matters, Susie. You might wanna check out the thread Dusty mentioned, there is some great information in it!

VG over 30% gives me issues, which seems to be common among those who have allergy and sinus problems. And everyone's suggestions are always welcomed. :)
