Good Morning REOville! Yet another snowy day down here in Amish Paradise.....
I guess I'm a minute too late to grab two of Karen's REO covers......that's a crying shame. I saw that a Provarinati hooked up another forum member with a Provari after she refused to lie to the vendor which she grabbed her mod from.....after she accidentally fried it by dropping it in cup of water......are they gonna tell them they can't do that either?!?!?!
You know I thought these forums were for folks who freed themselves from cigarettes by switching to vaping. A place were friends are made, ideas are shared, and the goodness of folks who give back to the community who supported them in their journey.......NAH who the heck am I kidding....it's all comes down to the almighty DOLLAR!
Soon enough we won't be able to distinguish the ECF from Big tobacco and Big Pharma...........

To whom should we send our message? Karen's covers have saved my REO Grand and DH's mini (both our daily drivers) from untold mayhem. She hand made them and sent them FREE, not even a penny of postage. I don't see how that makes her a vendor?
The only entity that could possibly complain would be a vendor who felt their profits were being usurped. Yet I asked in a post yesterday if any vendor makes them and as far as I know, NO ONE does. There is/was no where else to get a cover! That is what makes me so mad. When Serenity offered them I was glad to buy one, but they had problems so stopped making them. Karen was filling a niche out of her own pocket precisely within what we all thought were the rules, not charging a penny -- not even postage! Now we have nowhere to turn. I simply do not understand the reasoning on the cease and desist order.
If Karen were to become a vendor or manufacturer or whatever, would that cost her a fee? If so, would she still have free reign on all parts of ECF? Which leads me to think that I would gladly help subsidize whatever fee they imposed. Ironically, that would then make the covers no longer free since she would have to cover ECF's fee by charging modestly.

I would think those wraps might be considered along with covers. They do protect and change the look. I'm not saying it came from there at all though.
I am going to be quite honest, at first I thought "those wraps" would be good, but they simply do not fit well enough to protect and are good for cosmetic changes only. The edges of the body portion come over the side into the door area, and the bottom piece is too small to cover the entire base and leaves a gap around the vulnerable corners.
The only thing they are good for is cosmetic on the door (which is very nice I might add). I liked meeting with them but their wraps provide zero protection if they can't even align the corners and edges where damage is most likely to occur (and that may just be due to a different style Rob made.) So, I use their wrap WITH a cover since they can't do it right. The cozies are loose enough to cover the whole thing regardless of minor changes in the style by Rob and I have interchanged them with no problem on my REO's, unlike the wraps.
I am so very upset over this whole thing! Karen, is there a way I could help you do whatever you have to do to be "legal" on ECF and still be able to provide the covers? I hate it that others will not be able to protect their gear
I guess that means no one ever buys them for a perceived protection. I never owned one and don't plan on ever buying one.
ECF is drawing lines in the sand everywhere. Karen, nicotickets forum, i guess they think we need to be policed more then New York. What a nanny state this is becoming!

Davelog left here because of policy disagreements. I miss Davelog. Just like real life. People come and go. On here though its just sped up. If Karen has to leave we are going to have a commune in Costa Rica. THe gate will look like a humongous Reo and you'll have to pass through the squonk hole for admittance. We'll have ohm chanting every morning, a big pot in the center of the commune filled with juice. Rob will be the guru stilling up high on his platform eating egg rolls until his tummy gets so big he can no longer strum his guitar. We'll only use poodle hair for wicks and chickens will have to penned up 24/7 out of respect for Dennis's phobias. Super X D will have a golf cart and make house calls for vaping tutorials. The Reo museum will be run by Karen. Filthy Beast will operate the repair center. Garbage pick up will be Wednesday as usual.

Better safe than sorry Scott. I know you did yours for free also, but if they are making new rules against gifting stuff you make, it is better to stop before they glom onto you as well.

Before we run through town with our pitchforks and torches, please take some time to consider a few points.
• First, lets consider the size of the ECF and how many people are members here.
• Then, lets assume a certain number of good Samaritans providing goods for free to fellow vapers out of the kindness of their hearts.
• Then, lets assume a certain number of folks who are not good Samaritans who use the guise of providing goods at no cost, but take advantage of the people who want to support them in their efforts and those folks do so shamelessly.
• OR someone who is operating a small for profit venture, but avoiding the registration processes.
• Then lets consider how we go about protecting folks from snakes in the grass. Looking at this from the outside in, I can see how it would be hard for anyone to truly know if someone is being honorable or not. And how much time and effort do you put into determining the validity and pureness of ones efforts? Do you demand to see monthly or quarterly statements from the good Samaritan proving that they are not making money? How do you determine such a statement to be true and accurate? Seems to me that would be putting the good Samaritan through more hassle and under a big microscope that they never deserved being under in the first place.
Please understand...Karen is my friend and I know this hurt her. I know she was being on the level and honest. But I also know that there are way too many people on this forum to thoroughly vet to make sure they are not acting as a supplier or taking advantage of good people's kindness. It's an impossibility. So the best course of action is to neutralize the potential problem before it becomes a problem. This is one of those times where a few bad apples screwed it up for everyone, some one or some people have been caught taking advantage in the past and now the forum is doing what it can to protect the rest of its members.
It makes me sad that her thread got deleted, but it was bound to come up and be an issue eventually. I'm not saying don't be angry, but what I am saying is that ECF shouldn't be the target of your anger. They are doing what they feel is best to protect their membership in the most efficient way given that this site is run completely by unpaid volunteers who don't have the time and resources to discover the true nature of their entire membership. Unfortunately, Karen's kindness is paying the price for other people's treachery.

No, she would not have free reign of all parts on ECF, she would no longer have access to the New Members Forum or the classifieds, can only participate in other threads and forums so long as she is not discussing her business and if she has the permission of the owner of said forums, etc. Suppliers, manufacturers and their associates (like me) have another set of rules we have to abide by above those set for the rest of the membership. All of these rules are set in place to protect the membership from suppliers and vice versa. It is sad that it needs to be that way, but I find the rules are as fair as they can be, for everyone.

Well then with that question answered, there is no way Karen will want to continue to make them if she can't even go to the classies. I can only say that I am honored to own some of her heartfelt made covers, and will cherish them.
