It's a beauty, isn't it! I got very very lucky!
Yes it is Kay. Not just talking about reos now but there is something special about the feeling of wood in your hand. It just has a special feel. I always regretted not getting some wood working equipment. I had a good friend that made my a drysink and made my parent one too. Use to make the most beautiful grandfather clocks. My dad has one of his clocks. He found so much pleasure in woodworking. I helped his wife one summer taking him to his treatments. He has since passed on but I think of him when I dust the drysink. Come to think about it.......I haven't thought about him in a while. 
Guess I should do some dusting. But I'm not going to.........I have my wine glass full and I am on a date with Bob Seger.

I hope everyone has had a good Saturday, I'm down to 6mls a day and I'm ok with it. Now if only Walking Dead were on tomorrow everything would be copasetic.
Back home from dinner with family, went to Bourbon Street restaurant, don't go there to often, little pricey, but the food is always purdy good, oysters on the 1/2 shell and alligator tonight

Hi All,
Been a bit pensive today. Thinking about the world, and people, and the suffering that goes on daily. Many of us here are from the USA or other first world countries and we lead an ok lifestyle. Mine's a bit austere, itself. Yes, I own some Reos and a Cyclone but that's a health related expense in my book. Anything to keep me off stinkies. And I own a few guitars and that's mental health related because the worst thing you can do is nothing if you suffer from depression. Other than that you all might be surprised at how little I spend to get by. Of course I take care of my son but he gets his own check as a survivor under my benefits and that money is never touched except for him.
Anyway, I was thinking of the rest of the world and how the luck of the draw can shape your life so much. Born in a bad place, like N. Korea for example, too bad for you. Born in the USA, well you have some opportunities though much has been done recently to consolidate wealth to the wealthy. Used to be you could raise a family and have the mom stay home to take care of the kids if she wanted to. That option is available to far fewer people than when I grew up. But I digress.
My point was: Everyone of us can do something to help someone else enjoy their life. And we are all brothers and sisters. I put my money where my mouth is and made a donation to a charity that I liked tonight. But it doesn't have to be money, and I'll have to find a way to make up the amount in happy meals for my son (that doesn't come out of his money ) All you have to do is something that makes a perfect stranger smile. Yesterday I fed some stray cats and kittens. Judaism says that the best altruism is to animals for there is no gain for you. Other than feeling good. I'll probably feed them tomorrow as well even though they're living under my porch and I don't really want them there. But I don't want them to starve either. If I can catch one I'm going to keep it. I can't stop them so I might as well help them.
So, do something good. Preferably many things good. If everyone one of us did this the world would be a better place. It doesn't have to cost a dime. Simply wishing a complete stranger a wonderful day can bring smiles and set the stage for a wonderful day. People have become so cynical (myself included) that we don't expect that from strangers. And when we see that someone cares, even if they don't know us, it can have a magical effect.
Think about what I've said. Do it if you feel like, don't if you're not inclined. Just something to think about.....

Fleet I love reading your posts. I pretty much think of things along your lines. I wish I had the money to be more generous but I think I sort of do for my fellow man what I can. Last time I gave blood (I've given 114 pints so far) but they collect can tabs for Ronald McDonald Houses. I took them 1500. I know because I counted them. If anyone ever needs to know.....1 coat hanger will hold 750 can tabs. I think it is so wonderful for families to have a place to stay when their kiddo is in the hospital. My daughter had a kidney biopsy when she was small because she had Nephrotic Syndrome. I didn't need the Ronald McDonald house because I slept in a chair beside her bed. She also had an outbreak of Alopecia when she was young. Lost a lot of her hair (which it grew back and she has not had anymore issues) but after that I started cutting my hair and sending it to Locks of Love. I've done that for 23 years. I have sent them a mess of hair and it feels good thinking my hair went to make wigs for children. I don't want anyone to think I am bragging on myself because I'm not. I just know this world would be a better place if people treated others the way they wanted to be treated, whether you knew them or not.
Sheez, I think this wine is getting to me. Ya'll are gonna think I'm crazy. Well that is not a news flash. Not only am I but I take pictures so I can prove it. Ya'll say.... pic or it didn't happen.

Yeah Torey, it doesn't take much to help out. Just little things. Consistently. What you give is passed on by the person you gave it to, if they are of that mind. Certainly no money needed, just appreciating people and what they do. Recognizing that they are as worthy as anybody. Our worth is not measured in dollars, in my mind. I used to donate a lot of blood, also. I used to teach English as a second language to immigrants. (Volunteer for the Literacy Council.) With my boy a lot of my time is taken up but I hope to be able to contribute at that level again. But again, it doesn't have to be much. A simple, look you in the eyes, hello, thank you, I hope you have a great day can make a huge difference. But it has to be sincere and the other person needs to know it's sincere. That's where the effort comes in. So many people say things just as a matter of course and people have become inured to such things. A lot of people just say "no, thank you". I say "No, but thank you very much for offering" with a big pause between the "no" and the rest of it. So it's not something anymore that everybody says, it truly conveys the fact that I appreciated their offer.
The small things in life make huge differences!
Fleet, it doesn't take much effort to be nice to people. I have never met a stranger and that is probably the nicest thing I will ever say about myself.

A good reminder. Simple acts of kindness rarely "cost" much.
When my back was injured a lady (stranger) pointed out to me as I was walking in grocery store parking lot that my shoe was untied. I explained that I could not bend over to tie it.
she promptly set her grocery bags down on the asphalt, got down on one knee, and tied my shoe for me.
Really, I will never forget her.
So simple, but she helped me a lot that day, and it only took a moment of her time, cost her nothing.
Great thoughts in this thread this morning. Good morning Reoville and Happy Summer to all north of the equator. Happy winter to you folks south of it.
I recently was at the drs and was sitting in the hallway waiting to get into the xray room. I was all by myself. Around the corner a woman was wheeled in. Her wheel chair was place about 8 feet away. The woman looked about the same age as the pyramids at Giza. She was one of those tiny, old, frail women. I glanced at her and we sat quietly in that hallway in our chairs, in the office, in our own worlds, facing the wall. For some reason I thought I have to talk to this woman. I had initially put her in a box in my mind just from her physical appearance. So I said hello and she answered back and a conversation went on from there. It lasted only a few minutes but it opened my eyes and my mind as to how we, or I should say I, related to people on a subconscious level. This makes us behave in certain ways that many times are not beneficial to anyone. I was called into the xray room and that was that. Leaving the drs office that day she was in the lobby waiting to leave. As I passed her I wished her a good day and she did likewise. I'm sure I made her day a bit better and I know she, just by being herself made mine better as well. It was all free. We have far , far more in common than differences.
