The right balance - buying a kit for my Dad, recommendations?

Okay. So I have and love an Ovale Ego-C. The tanks are okay for general use, though I prefer XL carto's. I drip with an original oldie style 510 lr atty and a drip tip popped onto the cone.

Now I COULD buy the same set up for my Dad - ego-t - but I'm worried if something goes wrong - burning taste, flooded atty etc he might find it all so complicated (he's 66 and a lifelong 2 pack a day guy and can get impatient) he might think it's too much hassle and give upon it.

SO the next best could be to get an ego battery and just the XL cartomizers. Very simple to set up, when it's done if he doesn;t want to bother with the re-fill hassle he can chuck it and pop on a new one.

OR maybe the best thing is to get him a cig-alike BUT one of the BEST ONES OUT THERE. Just a cig-alike pv with cartos you pop on and chuck off and repeat, no complicated parts.

Are there any GOOD (at least ego quality for vape production, th and flavor) cig-alikes out there - which ones?

It's a complicated issue. he tried my ego 11mg Janty tobacco and was blown away when I explained it wasn't tobacco smoke - so I think he could do it, but I'm guessing starting off as non-complex as possible could be the best way.

But the paradox could be that the non-complicated models are crud and will disappoint him and he'll give up on it.

Any suggestions?

the problem is.. the 510 cig-a-like kits won't give as good of a vape than say ego-kit would give him.

I got a 510 kit originally (more so because of the look) but after trying an ego-twist with a clearo ... I couldn't go back to the cig-a-like

luckily the 510 kits are pretty cheap 30-50$ so it wouldn't be a complete waste if he used it for a couple weeks and then upgraded to ego type kit..

For somebody on a pack a day or more I would say buy an ego kit with a kanger T3/MT3. Cig-a-likes can never keep up and i'm happy I skipped them, maybe I would've never kept on vaping if I first had a cig-a-like. The next best thing would be an EVOD kit. I tried the EVODs and I really think the MT3 is better with taste and throat hit.

If you are able to order from Fasttech.com I would recommend the ego/evod starter kit. I have used the T3, MT3, viva nova and others but have found that the evod gives me the best flavor and is very easy to use. BTW, I am 65 years young. You can pick up a pack of 10 evods for about 26.00 US or 1 for 3.66.

I'm 60, a prissy-looking old lady, and perfectly capable of figuring out how to fill a clearomizer on my Ego-thingamajig  , even though it didn't have any instructions with it. Youtube exists for that!

I'm not sure I would have liked some young techo-upstart kiddy telling me that at my age I needed something foolproof...probably would have batted him over the head and ears with my cane...:p

Trying different tastes, refilling and playing are part of the fun factor in the discovery of vaping. Don't go with capsule-like stuff, a couple of ego-twists (1 as a back-up) and clearomizers would make a happy start!

I'd get him a eGo setup--couple of batteries, a few clearomizers (Ce4/5/etc), charger and case. Doesn't get much easier than filling/cleaning/changing the coil on a clearomizer IMO my dad can do it and hes 70, nearly blind and has arthritic sausage fingers to boot. Then pick up a few sample packs of juice for him to try. Even though I use big battery mods most of the time I always have a couple eGo/clearo setups around as backups or for those days that I don't feel like carrying around a billy club in my pocket just to get a nic fix.

Something along the lines of this (this is just the first UK supplier I came across, shop around)
Vape Escape Vision 1000 Ultimate £59.99 - Deluxe Vaping Kits - VE Vision 1000 Ultimate Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid

The eVOD batteries/clearos are a great option too, much more stealth and some like the bottom coils over a top coil clearomizer like above.

OK, so I'm a 61 year old, and I have some mixed feelings on this subject. Yes, I go out in my bathrobe and yell at kids to get off my grass, and I don't have a clue what bluetooth means. In other words, "I am your father, Luke". (yes another shameless Star Wars reference)

I started with a basic KR-808d with cartos setup (Volts from Smokeless Image). I think the simplicity helped me get started. I was refilling my own cartos by the second day. I didn't have a clue what I was doing, so everything I learned was by trial and error, reading here, and using youtube videos.

I used that same setup for a couple of months, then I gradually progressed to larger batts, different clearomizers and such, but it was gradual. Some of the first clearos (CE3s, nanos) were frustrating and I retreated to my trusty cartos. Now I'm using CE5s and much larger mods, but I've been at this for nearly 10 months, and I always have those original stick batts and cartos to fall back on.

Perhaps, since he has you for support and experience, you can skip the basics and start with more advanced stuff, but I still think that, at least in the beginning, simple is better.

Being 66 and vaping two years, here's what I'd start him out with:

eGo batt w/charger - 2 each
eMDCC (eGo Mega Dual Coil Carto) - 4 each
Joose variety pak

This set up is inexpensive, reliable, portable and 'bout da most fuss free combo around.

If this piques his interest and sates his needs, then ya both can explore all da other possibilities available later.

As for age, da most probable aspects that may inhibit fiddlin' with vaping gear are eyesight and arthritis. Patience and willingness to learn are ageless!

Agree with the eyesight variable...add reading glasses to the list. 2 pairs (must have backups).

I'm up there with maggiemw, grimwald, and Iffy. I agree that to encourage the switch, simple is best. If he tried your Ovale and seemed comfortable with that, I'd recommend either the simplest ego system that will let him try it, frustration free (battery plus carts or easily-filled clearo), but that he can upgrade if he decides he wants to. Or, if you think even this system would be too much for him in the long run, by all means get him a cigalike system! V2 offers some good starter kits. (Excellent batteries, they offer pre-filled carts, blanks, and juice.) So does Smokelss Image (Volt). There's also the Ovale emini (aka eRoll).

You are a good son. Good luck!

Somewhere out there
I'm going through a similar thought process on putting together a kit for an older lady.

Option 1 - Smokeless Image Volt. I have no personal experience with it, but it seems to get good reviews. What I like is that there's a seamless upgrade path into ego-style batteries and clearos and refilling cartos. Also simple shopping with everything required available on one site.

Option 2 - Ego batteries with pre-filled cartos to start. Once they're interested and willing to try something just a wee bit more complicated, introduce blank cartos, and two or three different clearos to try out.

I'm convinced that pre-filled cartos are the best way to introduce some one to vaping. My first experience with clearos was pretty frustrating (leaking) and I'm concerned that someone who isn't already well-motivated wouldn't stick with it.

Only for da first 48 - 72 hours, at best! Beyond dat, they ¢an be quite ¢o$t prohibitive. All too many seniors are on a fixed income and can't afford da luxury of pre-fills.

Ergo, my recommendations above. That set up is affordable for both da younglins and oldsters. Once one determines that vaping might work for 'em, da main challenge will be finding at least two fav flavs to prevent flav boredom and a possible subsequent 'relapse'!

I'm not bad mouthing your suggestion at all. I just think that it's a costly way to attempt to be weaned off da 'bakky...

Heh heh, I've been looking at some of these new clearos etc and have to admit if I bought one of these new generation egos with a petrig glass lr atty clearo, maybe with VV - I'd end up wanting it for myself (my precious....) and giving my Dad my existing ego-C set up to start off with!

Yeah got me to thinking the EGO -C if I gave him enough atty heads that he could just throw them instead of bother with washing and maintenence - pretty much is easy to use and takes care of itself.
