I'm not sure what everybody else is using , but I've gone through a range of builds , horizontal , vertical , 24 , 26 ,28ga , twisted wire and I've settled on 5 wraps of 26ga horizontal contact at 2.4mm , ohms out at .7 ohms , wicked with a split rayon wick . I'm using mine on a Stingray X and a black copper Stingray . The Bombacious one said he couldn't see anybody subohming a Rose , he should Skype me if he wants to see it done . :)

8 wraps of 26 gauge horizontal here, with two strips of Shiseido or KGD. ~1 Ω. I tried 24 gauge once, but it was a bit too warm.

I found the resistance jumping on my Rose as well this week, so It was time for a good cleaning, a new coil and fresh Rayon.

I keep getting 2.4 to 2.9 oms on my build I'm using 32g kanthal 4 wraps
The only time my resistance jumps is if I don't have the 510/catchcup torqued on to the base enough , try throwing it on the stand and tighten it up , check your grub screws too but be careful that 32g is easily cut .

Agree. Sometimes a grub screw gets loose. Or the screw that holds the positive post isn't making contact with the plate in the bottom of the base. Tighten the base and that should solve it.

One other thing if it shorts or resistance drops, make sure your coil isn't touching the airtube. I had one drop down this winter after working outside for about an hour.

About cleaning, the positive post assembly does get caked up pretty bad with dried juice, so I clean it weekly with a paper towel and swab the cavity with a Qtip. The pos. post on my first Rose is now a permanent bronze color for lack of doing so in the beginning.

Thanks ignotus, I'll keep that in mind for the next cleaning.

Well I put a vertical build on the Rose tonight 9 wraps of 26g on a 2.4mm mandrel. I packed it with Rayon, filled and vaped. I am not sure if I like this build or will go back to a horizontal. I can't run this at 20W or chain vape like the horizontal, it can get dry around the coil quite quickly and I only have two turns in on the juice control. (quite thick juice)

Thanks to @Bikenstein for mentioning this build in the Tootle Puffer's thread and to @roxynoodle for her excellent example in the Rebuildable Tank Atomizers - An Anthology, Pictorial, Builds and Reviews. | Page 58 | E-Cigarette Forum thread.

Your wicking looks good to me. Make sure you really saturate your wick nest before you screw the deck to the tank. On a thick juice, you may have to open your jc more. I also find it wicks better if I leave more of an air space when filling the tank. I'm running two verticals and can chain vape them.

I torture test all my new builds by chaining them that first day to make sure I did a good job :)

I do see maybe the wick isn't packed up against the coil near the bottom of the pic? Might be the pic, and once its saturated, any gaps may fill in.
I did pack a little more into the cup after that picture was taken since I did get a bit of a dry hit. I might redo it again tomorrow with some Japanese Cotton.

Another excellent thing about the Rose, just flip it and take the deck out. :)

Very nice pics, TrollDragon! You wick in the last pic looks perfect - loose but with no spaces. I would suggest you try 28 g around a 1.6mm-2.0mm drill bit. Not sure why but you'll get plenty of air and faster wicking. Maybe it leaves more room for wicking material?

I got tired of doing duals in my rose a while ago and now I was just running a large single 3mm coil with split wick and no cup. really simple for me to set up and it works awesome. tastes so go that sometimes I forget to change the wick for a long time, just checked it tonight

I closed it up and vaped it and even that still tastes great :)

couldn't leave it like that just thinking about it so I decided to rewick, the coil didn't look so hot, looked almost rusty so I rebuilt it with a new 27ga 2.4mm dual parallel

I really like single centered coil with no cup in this thing :) with no cup it's very easy to wick and rewick

I'll give that a try for sure, I like 26g as it stays in place nicely but i'll try it with 28.

How far do you guys raise the coil above the air tube 1-2mm?
