I keep backing off the percentage of the Pandan flavor, it's really very bitter in some sense. I think it's just one of the notes in RY4, and I'm sorry if this came off as a be all end all for RY4 to everyone. I swear this flavor is in it...

Out of curiosity, did your "bad Dekang" fluid come from madvapes?

Smells just like RY4 juice, perhaps minus a hint of tobacco flavor.

Which vendor's RY4 does it smell like? Ya know, every supplier's RY4 tastes and smells different. In my opinion, they each throw in some caramel, some vanilla, and whatever tobacco they each think creates RY4. There are a lot of flavors and/or juices that could smell like any RY4 available. I could mix Tobacco Base (or Tobacco Absolute or Dark Vapure, etc), caramel, and vanilla and call it RY4, because it would smell and taste something like the RY4 from some supplier somewhere.

Bad Dekang was from LiteCig. I still have ~6ml of it sitting around and it smells even less bad today but I haven't vaped it in a while. There could be some pandan in it but it smelled like toxic chemicals when it arrived. I think what I am going to do is two things:

1. try to get real pandan leaves from a local grocery and prepare those to know what the genuine flavor is.

2. try to get some original RY4 or something generally recognized as similar. Ikenvape is supposed to have such juice in for a week or so but he is sick or something and hasn't been posting. I've seen people say some Chinese shop still sells similar too.

Reading through my link on the last page as well as Fenaroli's, I think this isn't such a simple solution. Remember that pandan was listed on a "hot flavors for 2011" list. Probably one of the companies touting it can give some insight.

When you smell your flavoring do you get any sweet/caramel/nutty aspects? Mine is pretty much just astringent with a slight bready smell. I'm not even going to try to describe tasting it directly, but it is bitter and not good. Sparingly it might be useful in mixes but it wouldn't be a main component of anything I would want to vape. Other things that could be sold as pandan could be entirely different chemicals.

Agreed it's like General Tzos Chicken. It can be fundamentally different from resturaunt to resturaunt but every place seems to have their version of it.

My three favorite Ry4's are so different from each other, that calling them by the same name seems downright wrong to me hehe.

I am looking forward for more info on this Pandan

This Pandan flavoring is made by McCormick Phillipines Inc. I searched their webpage: McCormick Philippines ...but didn't find anything about diacetyl.

You might try emailing them at flavor_kitchen@mccormick.com.ph to ask. Let us know if you find out anything.

I emailed them a few days ago and they still haven't gotten back to me. Pretty unimpressive for such a large corporation. Especially considering that I'm inquiring about diacetyl, which could be considered a possible allergen.

I'll probably give their customer service # a call a little later today. :)

Sometimes things you wouldn't expect like FA Beer have a very small amount of diacetyl, but from looking at what chemicals make up pandan it seems like it wouldn't have much if any. By all means look into it, but the chemicals aren't anything in the same family as diacetyl.

I figured as much too. Especially since it isn't really a butter kind of flavor, but never hurts to be sure. :)

Taste wise I found it to be floral with a piney/ citrusy overtone, we used it in Singapore for curry sauce, rices and in desserts like ice creams and creme brulee, next to the flavour of durian it one of my favorites.

Scubabatdan's RY4 Recipe
Seedman concentrate Commercial 20.0%
Caramel 20.0%
English Toffee 20.0%
Marshmallow 38.7%
Vanilla Butternut 1.3%

anybody think bout Malt being a missing ingredient? know malted milk shakes were awesome good when was a kid ..... very flavorful fresh bread like undertone
maybe less marshmallow and instead malt in Scuba's recipe might be a good thing?

SethG...when adding EM you are adding Maltol
I think EM would probably round out the Pandan flavor into hopefully a more familiar flavor.
Maybe that familiar flavor is Malt?

Maltol is a naturally occurring organic compound that is used primarily as a flavor enhancer. It is found in the bark of larch tree, in pine needles, and in roasted malt (from which it gets its name).

Ethyl maltol is an organic compound that is common flavourant in some confectionaries. It is related to the more common flavorant maltol by replacement of the methyl group by an ethyl group. It is a white solid with a sweet smell that can be described as caramalized sugar and cooked fruit.

flavourart "used to" carry Barley malt flavor but don't see it on their website anymore...
checked Sweet flavors, Savoury flavors,Tropical flavors, Floral flavors and Vape Heaven and no luck
liberty flights still lists FA BM as a flavor but is out of stock

after probing further here is the reason why from the horse's mouth why malt disappeared....
We realize that for E smokers, our food flavors are used in a different way as they are not ingested but inhaled, and the presence of diacetyl can be a cause of concern.

So we are pleased to inform our customers, which flavours contain diacetyl and related amount in %. Just consider that the amount shown is related to 100% flavor, so when used in finished product its content is reduced by use level.
