here is the start of my first mod .... try not to laugh to much :) im not gunna say anything about it till its done .. just wanted to give ya a peak. this piece is more of a novelty one, it will just sit on my desk, where i will use it, started off as a joke ... long story, but im gunna make this work !!! lol and i shouldnt have to charge this baby for ..?? ill find out i guess

i have one question though .. for the regulator ( i put that in the pic as well to kill 2 birds -one stone) the bottom prong says input (check) middle prong says grnd (for ground wire) (check) but what is the other prong for? it says output 2 (???) maybe im just havin a brainfart since its 3 am but i dunno, or did i grab the wrong regulator? any info would help thanks :)

you got a screw driver .. now you got a drill :)

Nice! Really nice!

atty outer shell goes to battery negative

Input goes to switch then to battery positive
GND goes to battery negative
output 2 goes to atty center

output 1 is the metal part on the body of the regulator with a hole in it that used to cool it. I think you should bolt that to a small radiator body. Just a small block of aluminum would do.
I recommend this because the difference in voltage on that pack is great and that will have to be converted to heat. That's how these regulators work.

thanks caesar for the info!!! dually noted about the aluminum block .... good idea!!

i was thinkin about skipping the switch with the regulator though... since the push button switch that is in there is some heavy duty hardware and is alreay ment to take the volts/amps of this batt pack. i was thinking of putting the regulator on after the switch..... should work?
and i dunno yet (havent got that far into it) but i may just skip the 510 batt connector and just wire it to the inside of the "chuck" or whatever its called so i could use any atty i wanted with a quick disconnect lmao ..... but i dunno yet, kinda goin by the seat of my pants on this.

ya DVS i could make it work to the drill part and vape as well .. but this was just an old drill, and i dont do that much work around the house lmao. i should if ever needed be able to convert it back it a regular drill ... doubt will ever need to though.

once its done ill have video and more pics for your enjoyment, and hell who knows maybe one other crazy soul will want to make one too :)

Man, from my 18 volt Li-ion Makita drill with a regulator I could probably vape with that for a month if I don't use the drill. Keep us posted on your progress.

DVS I'm not sure I can ever forgive you for even considering maiming a Makita drill! I am so ashamed and disappointed! :D

I really like this idea, great novelty idea! Can't wait to see the vapor!

You're using a linear (7805) style regulator on this mod, and I've got to tell you.. that's a HUGE mistake. If you're running an 18V or a 14.4V battery pack you will be dissipating tons of power through the regulator. Like 20+ Watts! That's 3X what the atty consumes! You'll need a BIG heatsink for the regulator.. it will get smokin' hot.... and a lot of your battery life will go to just making the regulator warm.

Look into a DC-DC buck switching regulator. They're dirt cheap, are very efficient, and are exactly what you really need to use.

I use the BEC (RC car, Battery Eliminator Circuit) style that I can get on eBay for about $10. They usually have a jumper where you can select 5V or 6V output.. and are typically good for 3A... which is dandy!

ya .. ive been to busy to even do anything else with it so far.... i also have to get some 510 connectors..

any input on where you think i should put the atty/cart ?? so manyyy options i cant choose, could put it twords the back, could put it on the tip and keep the whole drill together, or i was even thinkin about cutting it in half .. right above the handle part..?
