Same here, but I never did prebuilts. I agree though, vape until almost empty. I never see any difference from top to bottom, exactly the same...
Funny, when i first stated vaping i used pre-built everything. Fast forward, now i wouldn't even consider using anything pre-built. Seems i'm travelling in the complete oposite direction to the industry.

I vape until the tank is empty. It's the same at the beginning, middle and the end. No dry hits ever, no matter what i do. (ok, once in a blue moon i'll find i packed my wick too tightly).

No real maintenance, just re-wick when i can be bothered. Routinely i'd do it everytime my tank empties, but i know the wick is good for two or three, so ....

Coils...... build my own, 1 ohm, simple 5 wrap kanthal 2mm inner diameter. Can't remember the last time i had to build one. And i've got ten Kayfun V4's in rotation.

Sub ohm tanks relegated to their boxes. Haven't seen the light of day for ages. They still have the coils i built in them.

Same for Rda's too, relegated to their boxes. Multiple coils which won't need switching out for literally... years !. Never know when i'll feel the need to Sub Ohm... so they'll be fine where they are for now, take a matter of minutes to re-wick. It's no bother !.

MTL at 11.5 watts constantly. Boxes i use are capable of hundreds of watts, so too are the batteries i use. Still i only vape at 11.5 watts.

Once a coil is built, that's it !.
Putting new laces in my Nikes is a harder task than wrapping and bolting down a new coil !.

There are a few good RTA's , DTL OR MTL, available which work flawlessly which plenty of members here would recommend. Grab a few of those and you're set. I've heard good things about the Kayfun V5, DTL, and the Kayfun Prime, MTL. These are work horses designed to last. There are others which are just as good !.

Pre-builts i used were cig-a-likes, then kanger CE-4's etc. Moved on to Kanger Protanks, which had pre built atomizer heads and could be torn down and re-built, but were a pita. Used to use silica wick and wrapping that stuff with 32g kanthal was a nightmare. Worked though !.

I agree, back then it was opposite for the most part, one started with rebuilding then perhaps moved to drop ins. I definitely started like most with cig a likes , carts and those carto dripping attys, but from then on only did rebuildables. I tried a few tanks like the protank, vivi novas, and ce's because my wife vaped them, but never liked them as I definitely preferred my gennys. Totally different now for sure

I just checked Ali. You can get a batch of 100 pre-made coils, any material you fancy, for $3-5 with simple wiring and $5-10 for exotic coils like fused clapton, alien hive mixed tiger yadatralala. Taking into consideration how much time you would need to wire up a hundred coils on your own, buying pre-made coils seems much more reasonabe.

All you then you need is some cotton, a small pair of rugged scissors and a pair of pliers to stuff the cotton into the holes on your deck, and you're set. The tools to screw/unscrew the stuff on your deck are usually part of the accessory bag that comes with your tank. No need for a complete DIY kit if you don't want to make it a hobby of its own.

Agreed, but where's the fun it that? :)

Can't help it. I'm a 'tool' guy. I like having the tools and I like the processes/experimenting involved in building stuff.

But what if I want to stop and end my vaping session?

I didn't see this addressed so allow me (sorry if it was and I missed it), you do NOT have to have the tank empty when you end a vaping session. You can leave it at any level you want. The ONLY times the tank needs to be empty really is when changing coils, changing flavors, or cleaning the whole thing out (just to clean it or for long term storage).
