Stock coil, starts tasting burnt, time for a new coil. Stock coil cleaned, with new cotton flavor wick, starts tasting burnt or wonky, time for a new coil. Recoiled with cotton wick no flavor wick, tastes great for a week, after maybe two, tastes fine but maybe not great and the draw gets maybe a little tight. Do I need a fresh coil? Maybe let it go for a couple more days. Gee, this juice isn't quite as good as I remember. Heck, I'll put in a fresh coil. Couldn't hurt. Man, this old wick looks like a slimy black worm.Voila! This juice is a great as I thought it was! Lesson learned? Cotton wicks don't tell you when you need a new one. A degradation in flavor is the only clue and it's so slow that it just kind of creeps up on you. When in doubt, recoil/wick.

yeah definitely :) dry burn in-between wicks. take out the used wick, burn the coil for 2-3 second bursts, once the gunk is off and it's glowing nice and orange inside out, give the coil a good 5 second burst so all wraps are glowing, then use tweezers to squeeze them gently. helps keep them nice and tight :) doing this should prolong the life of the coil and keep flavor fresh :)

then rewick, prime the cotton, assemble your device - good to go!

ohh so now your flavors aren't muted? yeah, I rewick daily myself, just to keep it fresh :) usually at night funny enough so it's set for the next morning

dry burning in-between wicks keeps the gunk off the coil too :)
Fruits are still muted, but GCD and PBC have come back to life. I put in a fresh coil from the pill bottle full of them. I find that if I just dry burn and rewick I can get a nasty taste from, I guess, burnt gunk. I like to clean and then the coils before rewicking and sometime they're shot and need recoiling. I was just surprised about how long the newly coiled and cotton wicks last and how gradually they deteriorate so sometimes I don't even realize I need a new coil.

MAKE SURE to RELEASE THE FIRE BUTTON BEFORE SQUEEZING THE COILS--- Otherwise......DEAD SHORT (assuming the use of METAL tweezers or other tool....!!)!!

Sounds like you need to move to a rebuildable. Stock coils are a pain to recoil compared to an RBA that's designed for it. Kayfun is a good choice and it's highly supported on ECF.

I change my cotton wicks on the Kayfun every other day and I time it when I need a tank refill. I just pop off the top cap, the poly tube and the chimney, and then I wash the wick and pull it. The coil gets a quick dry burn, then a rewick with a drop or two of juice to prime it. I put it back together and refill and I'm good for a couple more days.

I have ziplocks full of Kanger and Aspire heads to rebuild, but the Kayfun is just too easy and the bags of heads are largely ignored except for backup. I have a dozen or so that I've rebuilt, but the Kayfun gets daily use.

A wee drop or two of water from a needle dripper before the dry burn will usually help to fix that. Also, most fruits are rampant coil gunkers. I find that a lower ohm coil definitely helps. ;)
