I know this has been mentioned among the pages of "shipping" and "waiting" threads, but I would like a thread specific to the issues with orders once they are out of the hands of the good folks at PS. Just to know how big of an issue this is, and how many people are affected.

My VI order was delivered from PS to the USPS on 7/07/09, in the evening I assume. Now two business days in and the USPS tracking site still states "The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on July 8, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date". My question is wether or not this is a tech issue with the tracking process (meaning it is in the system and moving, just not properly updated) or is my package still sitting in a mailbox somewhere? If the latter is true, why use USPS Priority Mail? My order was over $200. I would gladly pay another 10-20 bucks for a UPS or Fed-Ex truck to deliver in a timely manner.

Granted I had high hopes my order would be here by Friday, due to a week-long out of state trip. The USPS seems to have put the kibosh on that. But personal frustration aside, this is a real let-down in the whole process of my purchase. I know previous orders I have received were timely, quick even. So what is the deal?

somewhere out there......
i worked at the post office for two years...I have heard it all by supervisors and regulars that work there....i will say that they work hard on keeping packages safe and secure...but the servers are out dated and there IT team is poor at best. Guys the post office is running out of money. iF they dont get help by the end of the year the post master general said they will be out of money. right now the post office is trying to down size. Its a huge problem and upper management are making the probems worse...UPS and Fed-Ex are a much better choice if you want accurate updates. But it will cost a little more for it.

OMG hilarious. I kinda feel sorry for the USPS, they're like your ......ed stepbrother that you don't want to play with, but you're kinda forced to. Threads like this make me laugh uncontrollably, but at the same time I hope the USPS will survive the economy collapse. They employ veterans and people with disabilities who really need a job. I just hope they can improve their service and continue to maintain at least a decent portion of their workforce. :(

I had an order go from Nashville, TN to Chattanooga, TN, then to me in Manchester, TN. I live right in between the 2 cities. It is 70 miles either way but they just bypassed us and went to Chattanooga, and then came back to me lol We are right on the interstate too. No wonder they are short on money.

The shipping notification you get doesn't mean anything more than that's when the shipping label got printed. It's got nothing to do with how long before it's actually put on a package, much less when it's put in the hands of the post office.

Add to that the fact that it's not a tracking system, but a delivery confirmation system. The only thing you can really trust is that when it says 'delivered' it got delivered. Not always to the right place, mind you... but it got delivered.

I've printed labels before that for one reason or another, didn't get mailed for a couple of days.

hey everyone ... how our shipping works:

If notices come before 12-1pm ... They are shipped same day, otherwise (and how it has been over the past 4-5 weeks)

I get back from the shop roughly at 5-6pm. Casey has the list ready for me to go.
* Sometime between 6pm and 12 midnight, I print labels
* Once labels are printed, shipping confirmations are sent (this is why you get them at odd hours -- can come as late as 2-3am in the morning)
* Labels are on Caseys desk in the morning ready to be put on.
* Later in the day, Joanna takes to the post office (normally about 1-2pm)

We never hold on to packages longer than a day, unless we can make it by a deadline on Friday/Saturday.

I thought we had already just chalked this up to being Newman's fault?

I spit gatorade all over my keyboard, lol

Jules, I almost forgot- your signature makes my eyes water! lol, I literally can't look at it without my eyes tearing!

Sorry about that, I dont mean to make anyone's eyes water. I have an avatar that will do it too if I ever quit spending money on supplies and become a supporting member.

I wonder, you all are in Hendersonville, wonder if a package would go to Chattanooga then back to Manchester. I'll have to order something next month and see what happens. (There I go spending my supporting member money again)

Question for Cash, If I was going to be in the area could I come by and pick things up to save on shipping?
