Count how many "circles" are in a number.
0=1
6=1
8=2
9=1
the rest are zero
so
8809=2+2+1+1=6
7111=0+0+0+0=0
6666=1+1+1+1=4
8096=2+1+1+1=5 and so on
I believe that the logic is the younger you are the more you see shapes and not numbers when you look at the list.

Wow. That isn't even how I solved it. I just looked at the number patterns. If 7777 = 0, then each 7 is valued at 0. 0000=4, so each 0 is valued at 1. I just extrapolated from there until I figured all the numbers.

That's really interesting. I totally missed the point.
