I think earthpig is absolutely right to say, "Flavorings are the most dangerous aspect of e-juices to begin with."

I threw out about 3 ounces of that Atomic Cyanide last year. It was killing me! I could tell something was very wrong when it filled my mouth with a very very thick substance before I inhaled it. I don't know how vendors can with good conscience sell liquids that are so obviously harmful. I think the AC sells well because it's so strong. But because for some vendors, money is more important than people, we need to be careful who we buy from.

Interesting thread. On another forum we had a similar discussion- There are certain juices (cinnamon, apple, mint, etc) that will destroy the plastic of clearomizers. Some people in that discussion felt that if those juices can destroy plastic, then they must be unsafe to vape. What are everyone's thoughts on that?

My argument was
Coca-Cola can dissolve battery corrosion, and I drink a 6 pack every day.
Vinegar can break down lime and calcium deposits and can remove rust, and yet it is in my salad dressing
Citric acid is used in many cleaning products, but is also used in more food products than you can count.

Plus - you're not vaping something that can eat thru plastic. It eats thru plastic in its liquid state, not in its gaseous state. 2 different things.

Your argument is correct.

It does not follow that because one substance can degrade another then that substance is harmful to people. It's apple & oranges. A great deal of healthy foods and drinks can cause surprising amounts of damage to certain things like metals, some plastics, etc. A lot of healthy food and drink (and common medicines like aspirin) even cause a surprising amount of damage to parts of our bodies -- the classic "x damages your DNA!" is a favorite of mine, as a significant portion of things you must ingest to live damages your DNA.

Did you know that oxygen is a powerfully reactive substance? It readily destroys other molecules. It caused the largest extinction event on this planet. It is no less reactive in our bodies, but we've evolved mechanisms to not only tolerate it, but use its reactivity to our benefit.

Our bodies are constantly being damaged by nearly everything we breathe, eat, and touch. The only reason we live longer than a few minutes is because our bodies are also constantly repairing themselves.

You can't (usually) judge whether something is harmful or not based on how it affects nonbiological materials. The only way to really know is to carefully study its effect on actual biology.
