The Worst Day...No Cigs

I've just proved to myself that I no longer smoke, and as long as I have my vape, I never will.

Yesterday, the dog collapsed when he got up. After waiting most of the day, it turned out to be cancer of the spleen (almost invisible, no symptoms until there suddenly ARE symptoms, and very aggressive). The dog was about to turn fifteen, unlikely to survive the surgery, and bleeding internally pretty badly. With the doctor's advice, we had him put to sleep.

Then early this morning I got a call. My better half's kidney stone was moving again, and guess who forgot their pain meds? I ran those in and drove us home.

Later this afternoon I realized I never, through the whole mess, wanted a cigarette. But my vape and I were attached through the period.

I guess I'm officially and totally a non-smoker.

If you made it threw all that then you can make it threw anything. Good job.
Sorry you had to put your dog down, treasure the pawprints he left on your heart.

I have not lost one of my dogs yet but I dread the day. My oldest dog is 15 this year and has what I call selective hearing. She can't hear me call her for a bath but she can hear the mailman from 2 blocks away. Those are the types of memories I hold onto and hope that you do the same. Just know that your buddy is still living in your heart.

It is times like these that bring out the best in people, oddly enough. You lost a dear friend but you showed yourself that you could do without cigs. Just try to think of it like this. Your dog's last act was to show you that you could quit cigs. He may be gone but he just may have saved you. What more could you ask for?

So sorry to hear about your uppy od. I can relate. I have gone through two of those "I know I'm gonna relapse" crises since I quit smoking/started vaping. You know - exactly the types of things that would have driven you back to smoking if you had quit with "approved" methods. This time around? Didn't even give a second thought - or a first thought - to wanting a cigarette.

So sorry for your loss. And so happy for your success too.

So far, so...meh, actually. We're all kind of depressed, including the other dog. He's getting more than twice the attention right now to try to keep him on the level.

The kidney stone is still passing, but at least the pain meds are great and the stone is fairly small.

All things considered, we're thinking of the last week as something to simply be forgotten and the rest of this as something to be gotten through. We're also thinking of another dog this spring as it's way too quiet in this place.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody! They do help.

Sorry to hear about your dog... Elvis is officially turning 14 next June and his hind legs are already failing. My dad's been going in and out of the hospital due to a prostatic/bladder cancer, although it was caught in time.

I managed to vape for three full days without craving, but yesterday I got mad with my ex and I needed a cigarette. My liquids are still not here so I'm vaping leftovers, and instead of a 10 cig pack I bought a 20 by mistake. I intend to vape as much as I can, but I'm vaping too much, and upping the nic doesn't cut the cravings.

I look forward to vaping all the time like you do!

Morpheus, sorry to hear of your loss and dealing with a better half that is in pain from kidney stones on top of that.

I lost two of my two long time friends at the ages of 15 and 13. They still make me smile when I think of those two polar opposites and how much they livened up my life for all those years.

I wasn't going to "replace" them but it was way too lonely around here without a dog or two so I got Penny Poo Poo the Corgi not too long after wards. She has made me laugh everyday. Even Hubby doesn't make me laugh everyday. There have been a couple of days I have been pretty peeved at him. Not Penny, I just cannot stay mad at that comical looking dog. When she plays toy, she is so funny. And she plays toy everyday.

I think it is wonderful that you didn't want to smoke even through a very rough day like that one.
