Convince my woman to let me bring a blow torch into my apartment and we got ourselves a deal, folks.

No problem - just tell her you bought her a new kitchen gadget.

That's why I love this place, not only do ya get sound tech support but also sound advice on how to deal with your woman! Here's my first coil with a ceramic wick from Provape, not my best but hey it meters out at exactly 1.2 ohms every time. 28g wire, too. It's a juice monster, though. Are we wicking or dripping in a way, because I'm vaping it like a beer, tilting. And when you tilt, juice is dripping to the coil from the gap in the wick hole, no? Maybe I need to change up the way I vape this thing.

Doesn't look too bad for your 1st attempt. That said, the coil does look loose. I can see an air space on the 2nd coil from the top. It's real important to get a good tight wrap using ceramic wicks. Did you do it by hand or do the 'hot wrap' technique? I've found you can adjust the coils to get them 'snugger' by heating them till the glow and very gently and carefully nudge them to get them tight/snug to the wick.

Ceramic doesn't 'wick' as good as SS mess IMO. So the genny-tilt certainly helps to feed the juice. The juice will flow pretty fast with a 'tilt' so you'll get used to how much and how long to 'tilt' to keep the coil feed. Not my idea - but I've found it helps to put a little ball of cotton or hemp or something like it between the wick and the center post. It holds more juice at the coil and helps absorb extra juice that may flow into the top section when tilting.

Howdy Mike, my apologies for the delay -- I don't remember coming across your post for some reason. Thanks for the props even though I know you're just being polite. Back to your question, yes I hand wrapped it with nothing but fingers, fingernails, and a steady hand (well, as steady as you can be vaping 30MG) instead of using the hot wrap technique because I still don't have a torch yet tht'll change, folks. The creme brulee cover story is a brilliant excuse and might just work on my better half!

When you say porous ceramic doesn't 'wick' as good as SS mesh, do you mean SS mesh that's been pinched at each end or a lil hollow like a straw? I've seen both on video but only used the preoxidized mesh that came with my ZAP. Great suggestion about the cotton by the way. I was even thinking of trying a micro-coil setup with silicia in my ZAP instead of ceramic or mesh as demonstrated in his video.

I've never tried silica in a Genny style RBA - so I'm no help there. When I said that about ceramic I was talking about the commercially available ones - they seem to rely more on capillary action along the outside of the wick (hence the 'improved' ones with grooves in them). Now the DIY AO (alumina oxide) wicks I use compare very well w/ SS mesh. Most of my mesh wicks are made w/ a very narrow center hole as I started rolling them around a needle. Yeah - I like adding that cotton ball between the ceramic wick and pos post really helps to hold more juice at the coil.

If you really want to get the most vaping pleasure with ceramics i suggest that get yourself a roll of ribbon kanthal D A1 size .5 x .1...... it just wraps flush and snug on the wick and since is flat it covers more of the wick than round kanthal...:D

Thanks badinfluence357, so I took your advice and bought ten bucks worth of the ribbon stuff over at RTD and 3 wraps meters out to be 1.2-1.3 ohms sloppily I'm afraid. Should I wrap them higher up the wick or tighter, or is it lookin' fine?

The wraps around the wick look good, but "Ouch" the glowing leas isn't going to taste good. If the wire was the round stuff and you had enough length left over you could wrap the excess back around that lead to lower its resistance and get rid of the hot spot. You could try putting some cotton between the wick and center post to keep the lead wet but it might be better to try wrapping the coil higher on the wick to reduce the length of the wire out there in the open air.

Thats fine as long as its wicking properly...thats an even glo which is a good sign of a perfectly wrap wick....just raise it a lil, fill tilt and enjoy!

The State of Confusion
Replacement "O" Rings are available from House of Hybrids, or Provape.

If you prefer some high test "O"rings meaning different materials like Nitrile or Viton which are a bit more resistant towards heat and chemicals....

The small "O' ring is a size -014 (one required)

The large "O" ring is a size -016 (two required)
