I want to try this but... when I do something as simple as pinch the ends of my wicks my atty tastes burnt. I'm assuming it's because there is not enough juice going up. Theoretically wouldn't a solid wick not allow the juice to wick for me in a similar fashion? I run my provaris at 4.2v, resistance at 1.7 ohms. Any suggestions? Do I need to increase the resistance in my coil wraps?

Read this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/330407-500-ss-mesh.html. It totally changed the way I think about wicking with SS Mesh. I still use #400 mesh, but I roll thick wicks now, and they really do work well.

As to the amount of coils, I was using a 3.5 ohm 8 wrap coil @ 5.8 volts for the last few days, and while it worked well I found that it was too many wraps. I unwrapped the top coil and it is much better, but at 5.3 volts. It is good to experiment, so wrap a high resistance coil and vape it for a while. Lose a wrap on the coil and note the difference. Eventually you will find that perfect combo.

Thanks for that I sub'd that thread and I'll check it out. I'm always down for trying new things. I kinda got a huge surplus of 400 right now though lol. Just tried to do a dual coil with my bliss with #400 and 32 awg unsuccessfully, so I think I'm a lil sick of tweaking my gennys for a bit, and am going to tweak my Harley this weekend.

This weekend will be my final days with the ZAP. If I don't love her by Sunday she's going on the classifieds. I will however try the un-pinching the wick thing tonight. Because no matter what I do, the vapor and flavor just isn't there for me. I'm a avid supporter of things that work right outta the box. Guess I never should've purchased an RBA to start with. :p

Another love/hate relationship... I love the way the thing looks, it does hit like a champ once you learn how to vape it correctly..
Make sure your wick is at the bottom, give a slight tilt before vaping, it should keep wet enough. On the inhale, press the firing button for 1-2 seconds then slowly draw as it builds up vapor give it a few puffs, you will get dense thick vapor with lots of nicotine.... Im still thinking about selling mine... just because its so big and heavy that I would only use it at home....

Yup I'm running it at about 4.2 to 4.3. I pull the cap off and give it a tilt before I vape it just to make sure the wick is nice and wet. I hold it at 3 o'clock just to make sure it's staying wet. I've gotten used to doing to "primer" fire before I begin to inhale, forget which set up started me on that habit. :) I've got the air hole lined up with the wick, everything.

I watched the linked video a few times before I ever even purchased the ZAP. Then once more when I got it in the mail. First time I filled it up is when it was working the worst. I drained it, re-adjusted the coils a bit and it got a little better. But now when I take drags off of it I get hardly any vapor. Funny thing is, I can taste the juice if I do a dry pull on it, but not when it's a live fire. I'm just not sure I'm ready to pull out the coil and wick and re-do it. I think she'd be better spent at home with someone that will dedicate the time needed to fine tune it. I'm a bit of a busy body and can't sit down for a few hours and just fiddle around with it.

But I agree with what Keeno said. I'm not disappointed at all that I purchased it. I just had to try it and see what all the fuss was about. Turns out it just isn't for me. That's how it was for me with the Penelope to. Great device, just wasn't for me. I've never heard a disparaging word said about the ZAP or Penny. Guess I'll just end up sticking with my boge's and tanks. Heaven help me though if Boge doesn't get on the ball and go back to making good carto's again. I might just have to become a dripper again. Ahhhh!!! :p

Of the three that I own the ZAP was the only one to come completely assembled out of the box ... are you running it at 4.2v? Does it taste burnt when you take it to 4.2v. Mine did but I followed the advice in the accompanying vid and now have a tuned atty. It is the best of my three that you see in my signature down below.

Anyone else having problems with the ready wick it came with?? Mine seems to not be wicking properly....

What is your mix ratio of your juice your using? If its 50% VG or higher I suggest trying the 325 wicks. That's my personal preference and it works for me with thicker juices. PG base juices work well with the 400 mesh IMO.

not too much. you want to be able to twist the wick to work out shorts. you don't want to see gaps, but you should be able to move it up and down etc. it's easy to get it too tight. just make it touch and be uniform. does that make sense?

Yes ot does. Thanks, ill try that

see i think the exact opposite. my wicks are solid with no hole, as tightly packed as i can to get it in the hole. i use 400 for everything even some of my homebrewed 100% vg.... holes in the middle of a wick are bad! causes a volcano effect of juice which will a: boil juice in the hole causing nasty discolored bad tasting juice and b:eek:verwicking(more like over draining).

another thing these thin large center hole wicks cause is that you are not wicking with the wick, you are allowing drainage when tipping to 3'oclock. this is bad cause too much juice is as bad as a dry wick.

for capillary action to truly happen and be most efficient you want the densest possible wick you can get. my wicks never get dry and are never too wet...they wick perfectly for 3 or more months.

sorry for sounding critical but this is my experience with zen products since my first one in march.....and my zap since june. my zap has seen over 1500 ml of juice easily and it took me forever to get it right where it needed to be, when all it took was doing my wicks a little differently.

ninfreak , aj - I been following the 500 mesh thread and when the stock coil needs changing, I'm going to change to a 'fat' wick also. For your 'fat' wicks what mesh (400 / 500) are you using, what size are you cutting the mesh for the wick, and (oh yea) are you using the ZAP w/ or w/o the insulator?

thanks
