Usually when I'm at smoke pit, the question I get most is "Is that a portable hookah?" When I tell them what it is, they seem to get really excited and want to know everything about it. They REALLY get excited when I tell them you can do it almost anywhere and about the flavors. I don't know how many I've gotten to switch exactly, but I do know I'm taking a trip with 5 of them this weekend to go get some. The military discount might also have something to do with it.

Anyways a server was walking by me and said, "those are bad for you!" My response, "oh yeah.. Tell me how?" He then stated that there was 2 deaths from them. That they cause pneumonia.. "I don't think so, but I'll check it out. Funny thing is 10min later he asked if he can go for a smoke break. E-cigs are bad for me?? You might want to think about what your putting in your mouth before you come give me advise on how vaping is bad..
Sounds like someone fed him a line of bull to keep him from saving money via e-cigs

-they are bad for me. the contents and ingredients are inconsistent, there is no quality control, there is no regulated dosage of nicotine. (i buy from vendors who have their liquids routinely analysed)
This can be said of a lot of things if you buy cheap. Sounds like that report that only tested from like 5 sources

-they may cause anaphylaxis and new allergies. they cause pneumonia. also have heard these in reference to not only liquid, but what i choose to use as hardware!
Next time someone tells you this, tell them to stop watching House.
Anaphylaxis is an extreme, and sometimes life threatening, allergic reaction(ex: some peanut/shellfish allergies). It is not something you can suddenly "acquire" from vaping unless you're already allergic to a component, which in itself is going to be extremely rare. As far as I know the only allergen is PG, and even then supposedly all it does is a mild irritation[/endrant]

-mechanical apvs are unsafe because the battery may explode. or cause my atomizer to violently explode.
My landlord said he doesn't like e-cigs because he heard the battery tends to explode.
Any lithium based battery can "explode" under the right circumstances and barring a major manufacturing flaw, won't(ex: those laptop batteries that kept going up). Besides, the "explosion" isn't an explosion, it's a small jet of either superheated air/gases or flame. These aren't miniature grenades we're holding and I think I'd rather an e-cig go up than my cell battery go up when I'm on it. Basically, e-cig batteries are as likely to explode as any other lithium battery.

Anyway, ranting done, for the most part when someone sees my PV they just go "What's that?". After which I give a quick description, demonstration, and direct them to the local shop if they're interested

"I used to work for UPS and a PV we delivered blew up in the customer's face." My response: What year was that? "Dunno.. the story was told to me by another employee." What brand was it? "Dunno" Heard of any others doing that? "I don't work there anymore." How many years have you been smoking? "About 30" Heard of any deaths or other health problems from smoking? *silence and subject changed*

"They aren't approved by the FDA and I heard they have antifreeze in them."
while he puffs on his 'approved' cigarette. Hmmph.
I had more of these conversations when I was first starting out. Now, I simply say that I've been off of cigarettes for 1.5 years and that gets their attention and I gain instant credibility.

I think they confused Diethylene Glycol with Propylene Glycol. Antifreeze contains alcohol, not the same kind as booze, but you get the picture...

Just for clarification...

The venting of a lithium-ion battery is not an explosion.
But if they are venting in a device that does not allow for venting, the device itself can explode.

Ah, yes, I should have mentioned that. I was thinking of youtube vids where people took something like an airsoft or RC lipo pack and intentionally shorted it to show what can happen

Just for clarification...

The FDA tested a few handfuls of cartridges from NJoy and Smoking Everywhere...
They found a small quantity of diethylene glycol in one of the Smoking Everywhere cartridges.

Diethylene glycol is a known contaminant in propylene glycol, and the FDA has established a limit of 0.1% as acceptable.
The amount they found in only the one cartridge was "approximately 1%" which is over the acceptable limit.

And they called it anti-freeze, which is where the anti-freeze argument comes from.

Read this for a more in-depth look at the FDA test results...
FDA's partial truths and exaggerations endanger health

Any smoker who tells you that vaping is bad for your health is obviously an idiot.

They aren't idiots, just brainwashed like we all were once. I try to undo the brainwashing when the moment presents itself.

Worst I have heard came from my father. "So, when are you going to quit THAT?".

at first i struggled against smokers who told me bad things about ecigs, they usually heard something from someone who knew someone who had read something somewhere. but now i just don't care. ppl who ask me and want to get informed i gladly lay tons of info in front of them. but otherwise i just enjoy my vape and carry on. few times in my life ive been on the wining side and it feels good.
