-i'm still a smoker, just deprived.
-they are bad for me. the contents and ingredients are inconsistent, there is no quality control, there is no regulated dosage of nicotine. (i buy from vendors who have their liquids routinely analysed)
-they may cause anaphylaxis and new allergies. they cause pneumonia. also have heard these in reference to not only liquid, but what i choose to use as hardware!
-they contain carcinogenic byproducts.
-further chinese phobic comments, about safety, cleanliness, and efficacy of my hardware.
-that the hardware and liquid is illegal in my country. it's totally not, just banned by the health board.
-antifreeze misconceptions. pg is alo used as a non toxic antifreeze. so what?
-confusing pg with the other similar chemical which is not approved for internal consumption.
-overall misconceptions of what the primary chemicals are.
-since i use my pv so often, it can't be safe for me to use.
-mechanical apvs are unsafe because the battery may explode. or cause my atomizer to violently explode.
/blows so many raspberries. man. i can add to this thing forever.

Had someone tell me that I was going to drown from the "water vapor" in my ecig getting in my lungs! LMAO really? guess I better never go outside in the fog, humidity, or take a warm shower. EVER.

I just heard that one recently.

This whole thread points out the willingness of people--friends, co-workers, perfect strangers, etc.--to be much more rude to people about their nicotine usage than they are about most other things. I think it's spillover from the rudeness level the anti-smoking movement has inculcated into society. ("If you're not an anti, don't start; if you are an anti, please quite." :p)

I've never met someone who was hostile towards my smoking, let alone vaping. If they did, I'd tell them to mind their own business and move along. Everyone has at least one vice so it's pretty self-righteous for anyone to ride a high horse towards your own.

I stay clear from people like that. They tend to have close-minded intolerant personalities that historically prohibits progress in society.

The one's I hear and hate the most:

"Man...who knows what you're puffing? It could be Chinese horse piss and you'd never know."....Ummmm, actually I do know.

"Dude...why would you use something that's not approved by the FDA?"....Ummmm, why are you using something that is approved by the FDA and known to cause almost certain death?

"Man c'mon...technically you're still a smoker, you're just using a different device to do it with."....Ummmm, no...no I'm not.

I've never experienced judgement from smokers about my vaping. It's always been militant non-smokers. The smokers seem fascinated by our switch (spread like early Christianity, we went from about 20 smokers to about 3 or 4 at work) and are always interested in and fascinated by our various mods. The few hold-outs are always asking to hit our devices when they're nic-fitting! The people I've ever encountered who think I'm doing something evil and horrible and illegal are the non-smoking mis-informed. I am not a vaping proseltyzier, I will vape and keep to myself. But if you approach me and ask questions, I'll do my best to answer them. And even though I still get a little nervous vaping at a red light next to a cop (I hate unwarranted or unnecessary attention), I'm not afraid to bust it out in the smoker's area next to any public establishment. I always get questions.

My favorite was at work. I am forced to vape out with the smokers due to my job generalizing vapers and smokers as both evil people. Anyway, smoker says to me "That's nasty and unhealthy" I was like "Ummm excuse me???" He says "synthetic tobacco, have you ever heard of anything synthetic that wasn't worse than the real thing? bath salts, they make people crazy, etc....." I said "And synthetic oil was the best thing to ever happen to my vehicle, so no, I don't get your point" He shut up pretty quick.

being told that I haven't really given up smoking as I'm still using nicotine - really p's me off.

yes. I can understand that. And the people encouraging me who worry that now I "vape more than I smoked" (and I'm still smoking btw) - I am all "yes - I am replacing one habit with a new one. Please let me have my victory as every vape I take is a cig I don't smoke. please. I need this."

Maybe a bit :offtopic: but...

I've never experienced dry heat. I hear it's nice.

I have lived in AZ the land of the dry heat for a year now. I've done one full summer. Here's what I have to say about it. It's still fracking hot. It's like baking in an oven though as apposed to all the wet and sticky crap that happens at 90 degree weather with the humidity up high back east. In the end - baking in the oven is preferred to the lesser of two evols. Also - out here is the exact opposite of back east. How do I deal with the heat here when it's 110 and up? I go from my air conditioned house to my air conditioned car to my air conditioned job. Then backwards. Just like the winter but in reverse. In January I'm running around with my sunroof open and all the screen doors open on the house...

LOL - I just tell my smoking acquaintances the only known side-effect is an increase in your libido and stamina.

best answer evah!

The all time #1 comment that irks me is the old Antifreeze one...don't know why that one in specific but it really grinds my gears.

I can see why that would upset you. I haven't had it yet. Mostly people are curious when they see me with it. Smokers and non-smokers alike. I've taken to telling them - the smoke I'm inhaling now - is like what comes out of a fog machine - and they don't even blink twice about it. Most people have been very encouraging of my journey - I'm very lucky. I have a few smokers watching me to see if it might work for them...

I just heard that one recently.

This whole thread points out the willingness of people--friends, co-workers, perfect strangers, etc.--to be much more rude to people about their nicotine usage than they are about most other things. I come from small town Ohio. Like so small town that if a stranger walks into a bar everyone looks at them like how the eff did you find us and ... are you doing here? I now live in big city AZ.

I guess the point I was going to make is that I'm very used to having people who "mean well" ask about "when are you two going to get married?" or my mom - as soon as she realized that this boy I love is the boy I will die beside started patting my belly lovingly and going "grandbabies?"

People lovingly say all the wrong things for all the right reasons all the time. This has little to do with smoking vs not smoking vs vaping. It has everything to do with the fact that people often do and say really dumb things.

I've never met someone who was hostile towards my smoking, let alone vaping. If they did, I'd tell them to mind their own business and move along. Everyone has at least one vice so it's pretty self-righteous for anyone to ride a high horse towards your own.

I stay clear from people like that. They tend to have close-minded intolerant personalities that historically prohibits progress in society.

by and large, I've found that I've not had problems with vaping inside. When I worked at a different store that was not my home store I had a couple people ask me if it was a portable hooka. I said no - it's an -e-cig. One dude was a health practitioner when he was not working the PT job we met at and he was hecka enthusiastic about my choice.

The other gal was just interested as it was something new to her.

"Man c'mon...technically you're still a smoker, you're just using a different device to do it with."....Ummmm, no...no I'm not.

the smart .... in me has to ask if you know what Chinese horse piss in vape form exactly tastes like ;) :p :D

And yes - I think that the differenation between smoking cigs and vaping is ULTRA important. It is NOT the same thing. My bf worries that I'm vaping too much and I understand that. But every vape I have is a cig not smoked.

Hasn't happened to me yet but someone told a friend that vaping was a CRUTCH. Glad it was not me. My reply would be I"M NOT SMOKING AM I. Most just want to know what it is and where to get them, cost etc.

My little brother tried that crap on me. He was all "You are either a smoker or you are not. You are strong, you don't need a CRUTCH"

I've been thinking about this one a lot.

Like really A LOT.

Because my grandmother - see - she was a SMOKER. and when her health started failing - I had an anti-smoking auntie who made the rest of us feel like ....e because we would dare let grandma smoke when she wasn't around. It was a BIG family fracking deviding lines were drawn blah blah blah - when grandma's health started failing - I would be the one who said "you look like you could use a smoke?" and she would say "the babies are here" and I would say "I'll walk you to the porch and we'll just have a smoke and some alone time" and I would HELP her to have a smoke. Because she was better after one.

I have now - since her death read about Parkensins - which she had - and how nic can help curb the effects. and it makes SOOOO much sense to me now. As I make the move to vaping and getting rid of the ciggs. - The thought in the back of my head is "IF I'd known about vaping when I lived in OH - I could have weaned grandma off. I could have turned her into a vaper. Easily. She would have loved the flavors (she was a foodie too)

Oh yea - this was about how it's a crutch. Eff that. All of us need a helping hand. Idk what my little brother says. He has a black/white veiw of the world and it's going to bite him in the ... 6 ways from Sunday. I know he loves me and he wants the best for me. But he doesn't really understand the difference between a "crutch" and "behavior modification" and I'm pretty positive that if I told *his wife, the nurse* what I was doing, she'd be all sorts of supporting it.

When I hang out with smokers and vape, they look at me funny. I don't care.

they tend to look at me curiously - especially when they say "I smell blueberry"

Thankfully I live in a small town and I'm the only (public) vaper. I get weird looks, like I'm an alien. :)

But then, when they find out I've quit smoking, everyone wants to know where to get one.

yup yup!

I've never experienced judgement from smokers about my vaping. It's always been militant non-smokers. The smokers seem fascinated by our switch (spread like early Christianity, we went from about 20 smokers to about 3 or 4 at work) and are always interested in and fascinated by our various mods. I always get questions.

good for you!! keep fighting the good fight!

I guess to be fair though, the same guy asked if I had a green card to work in the USA when I told him I was from North Dakota. He honestly thought North Dakota was in Canada, so that's not saying much for him, but according to the thread title, that was technically something a smoker said to me, LOL.

oh god IDK the forum smiley quick code for *giggles* but I so am right now...

A recent one I was told - did you know someone had a heart attack and they think its from those things, she said pointing at my mod! this was from someone whose mother smokes three packs a day. The mother wanted to try e-cigs but the daughter kept her from doing so!

Omg...unbelievable! that people can be that way!

Antifreeze contains ethylene glycol, a substance that is poisonous, especially to pets. What we use contains propylene glycol, two entirely different chemicals. If one told a smoker all the 4,000 chemicals a cigarette contains, it would take a while. You could tell them cigarette manufacturers use ammonia to "free base" the nicotine in the tobacco.

Chantix, a stop smoking drug has quite a list of warnings. I'm sure anyone who turns on the TV has been bombarded by the commercials. One of the warnings they state is "may cause death". Who in their right mind wants to take a FDA approved drug that may cause death? In other words, just because something has FDA approval, doesn't make it safe.

Sad, but I tried Chantix for about 2 weeks last summer and it made me so weird, mentally and physically, that I stopped Chantix cold turkey, and went back to smoking to feel better! Months later I found ecigs and NOW I really feel better :D
