A few months back I went to the mall, and I noticed there was one of those e-cig kiosks. I decided to humor myself and see what the kid was selling and how outrageous the prices for starter kits would be.

He offered me a cigalike which I tried. When I asked how long the battery and cartridge would last, he gave me the expected "two packs" worth. I told him that I didn't believe him. At that point I pulled out my Provari from my pocket.

 "What the heck is that?", he asked.

I told him that this was MY e-cig.

 "I've never seen anything that big."

I told him it cost about the same as his kits that only offered two stick batteries, a charger, and five flavored cartridges. He took a step back when I took a draw and exhaled three times the vapor that his cigalikes did.

Having been sufficiently humored, I thanked him for his time and went on my way.

LOL@ EricHill!
A blu cartomizer is supposed to be about 6 smokes. If I put that same carto on a 650 mah eGo it's more like one and half. I lectured quite a few retailers about this sales pitch. Not only is it a lie, but it's a risky one. How many people have sucked on burning cartomizers expecting it to last 2 packs. Now a person has been ripped off, and had a bad experience. Meh....stepping off the soap box now ;)

Do they state they are equal to 2 packs based on use, or just the amount of money the suck out of your pocket?

It's kind of like those commercials that say "more doctors recommend this product", but they never tell you more than what. More than none? Yes, that's it!

I'm recalling one advertisement that alleged that four out of five doctors recommended the ingredient in somethingorother. Empathis is my own, because the ingredient was asprin, and indeed, many doctors do recommend aspirin for several things.

On the main question, I agree with unclestu. My first experiment claimed 25 - 30 cigarette equalivance. I immediately discounted that by 5. That wasn't enough, unless they their comparison involved cigarettes burning away in an ashtray.

The packaging for the BLU that you find at the gas stations ... at least the ones locally here in Tampa... they have one cig-a-like style which states it is the equivalent of two packs of cigarettes!! I never purchased any cig-a-likes because one of my friends started on these and gave me one to try. I was a 2.5 PAD Marlboro / Pall Mall type of guy and I sucked that thang dry in less than five hours... nothing but crap and they are selling for 13.00 a pop. >>>> cost me 14.00 for two packs of smoke (something wrong with the math there!!)

I try and vape just like I smoked. By that I mean many things, smoking is not just about the sensation. There are other habits and addictions associated with smoking besides just the nicotine. I knew to quit smoking this is what I had to do and it worked. I was a heavy smoker. I vape for 5 - 15 minutes, same amount of time I spent smoking 1 or 2 cigarettes depending on my craving. I put the PV down and return to it for another session in about 15 - 20 minutes or so... lather, rinse, repeat. Just like I smoked.

I smoked 1.5 - 2 packs a day. I vape 24mg at 7ml - 9ml a day out of a tank. So at best, for me, 1ml of juice is equal to 5 cigarettes. Talking cartos, they hold about 1ml and not all of it is usable. If the carto is prefilled it may even have dried out some. So at best it is 3 or 4 cigarettes in a carto. I started vaping on a Blu and only used 3 cartos a day and they don't hold a full ml. I was dumb and new to ecigs (notice i didn't say vaping).

Of course this is very simple math and can change and your mileage may very, but this is my experience.

This is why mall kiosk vendors are doing nothing but lying and taking advantage of newcomers because there cannot be a standard increment of vapage versus filler cartridge style atomizers because of the variation of vapers style and background.

Those who smoke have so many different methods... some were light smokers.. some heavy.. some smoked for just a few years ... some many and many of years... some smoke 1/2 PAD > 1 PAD > 1.5-2 PAD and so on..... Some smoked on routine and some chain smoked... Some only ingaged in smoking socially or only when drinking.... and the list goes on!!

Some only have a level of dependency based on curiosity ( usually the type that will smoke when they want to and don't feel they have to everyday) while others are die hard killers for the craving** Me when I couldn't get a cig and catch that fix because I swear I had one on my lip right after the other and found myself quite often lighting one when I already had one burning in the ashtray!! LOL.....

So, everybody is different... You drop into vaping and I have talked to everybody about everything I could possibly be curious about when it comes to vaping over the 6 plus years I have been cig-free ( after 30 + in the fold of BT). There are so many who smoked as heavy if not heavier than me .... 24 mg gave them head-aches until they decided to go down and 12 mg was their niche. Heck some 2 PAD'ers did 48 mg / all day every day @ 4-6 mil per day.. and that kept them happy. Me personally, I started with 36 mg @ 4 mil per day for about a month.> 24 mg @ 6-7 mil per day.> 18-22 @ 6 mil per day.> And now I just shuffle between 0,6,12, & 18 mg with varying amounts per day but I would say an average of 6-7 mil per day. I was a 2 -2.5 PAD of Marlboro / Pall Mall for 30+ years.
Others were very lite smokers and the scale was tipped in very much the same way. Just all over the place and there is unfortunately (at least in my mind) No possible exact set-up that is a fixed pre-filled cartridge or battery set-up that is going to be the win all for everybody... Like BLU for instance believes there is. I would agree that maybe it would be an acceptable introduction to vaping but at this point it is not the best choice because there are too many out there that have direct complaints about what BLU tries to represent as an E-Cig.

Just a gimmick to make them look more feasible !! Money-grubbers

I was sold an e-cig after being told "it does 40 cigarettes-worth" in terms of both vaping (smoking equivalent) and nicotine.

My final conclusion was that it did 180 puffs (or 360 if you only puff for 1.5 seconds) and...wait for it.....wait for it....the nicotine yield was....

less than half a pack of Marlboro reds.....

less than half a pack in terms of nicotine? Surely I was mis-sold.

:)

I wish my local mall had a cig-a-like stand so I could drop some knowledge on them like you did.

This. They are trying to measure it in "puffs". An average analog use gets about 10 "puffs" from one cigarette, and manufacturers try to claim about 400 "puffs" per carto. 400 divided by 10 gets their mythical- er, hypothetical 40 analog (2 pack) equivalent. In reality almost no one takes puffs small enough to get 400 out of a carto.

Reading stickies on ECF written by people more experienced than I has taught me that an average vaping session lasts about twice as long as an analog smoking session, and 1 ml of liquid is equivalent to about 6-9 analogs. This is what I tell my customers.

It's typical corporate exploitation practices.

We are in a unique era, in that we can truly vape for pennies on the dollar. I'm not "addicted" to buying or acquiring "stuff" for my vaping needs outside of what's necessary. My Vamo's gun metal finish is worn to hell, and it looks like crap; but vapes like a champ. Mixing my own liquids means my habit is costing me around 50 cents a day at most.

The key here is to educate anybody whenever possible how untrue these claims made by ciga-like companies are, and to be active in preventing unreasonable regulation by government.
