This is true, but i'm not sure I get your point. With clearomizers, the atomizer and tank are inseparable (in a figurative sense, I don't mean physically). Each mfc uses a proprietary atomizer (the PTs and Davides are the exceptions, insofar as they can use the same replacement heads).
I hope we're not confusing the hell out of the OP.

Well, the point is to get the whole thing clear;
what does it mean that "the atomizer and tank are inseparable (in a figurative sense, I don't mean physically)" ?
That just confuses people.
Actually the atomiser and the tank USED TO BE inseparable - PHYSICALLY, not merely figuratively. The only remain figuratively inseparable now in the minds of accustomed vapers who saw the emergence of dual coil tanks.
It seems to me that in the industry, not long ago - even last year 2012, there were I imagine, Dual Coil tanks!
You COULD NOT change the atomiser in the tank.
If you wanted a lower resistance coil, you would have to buy a tank with a lower resistance coil.
But now, tanks are being constructed with CHANGEABLE atomisers, therefore although the 'lingo' or 'jargon' merely continues on, it makes no logical sense and confuses the new people.
Another aspect is the evolution of STANDARD atomisers. For somebody looking to purchase a tank, they would want to be aware of how common the atomiser is accross tanks.
A good example is the cartos. The cartos tanks are Bottom Coil Changeable tanks; and if the cartomizer has dual coil then....
The cartomizer is an example of a standard BCC atomiser. Different brands of cartomizer will work in different brands of cartotank.
The 'clearo' world will move in that direction also; clearos that use a common atomizer are the ones that will survive.
