It may be hard to get a meeting with a governor, but a state senator is a different matter. We already have examples of ECF members scheduling meetings with their senators in New York. I wrote the Governor of Wisconsin and he wrote a personal letter back.

Don't dismiss the Illinois effort as different. It's exactly the kind of thing we need - people getting off their arses and DOING something.

The reason people don't think it works is because they never TRY.

They assume "No one will show up" so they don't go and no one shows up
They assume "They won't take my call" so never make the call and will never know
They assume "It's too late" so nothing gets done and it's finally too late
They assume "My one voice won't matter" so they never join their voice to be more than one voice

You know whay they say about people who assume.

"If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got."
- W. L. Bateman

Don't listen to the naysayers. Grassroots efforts have made some major changes in this country. It's how we BECAME this country. If you've never become involved before, now is the time to step up.

New York is happening right now. The FDA stuff isn't scheduled for some months. This group just filed their brief....
Is the president allowed to over-rule or assis in any way shape or form on any ill decision or ruling that the FDA, ALA, AMA, ASH, '...xyz' can potentially bring about in their appeals?

p.s. Thanks Kristin. Excellent idea.

Yes, exactly Kristen. Totally agreed.

John - you're looking for "remedial US civics" and this isn't the thread for it. In very much summary: The AMA, ASH, ALA, whatever aren't even government bodies. There is _nothing_ they can do to anyone about anything. They're just lobbyists. Nothing more, nothing less. The FDA can't make decisions about anything ultimately - they write opinions that are then used as fuel by lobbyists to lobby law-makers and by lawyers (which are generally one and the same) to influence judges and by PR people to influence the citizenry. They also have limited powers of enforcement to enforce laws within their jurisdiction ("health cops", basically.)

The FDA is regulated by the Dept. of Health and Human Services, which is part of the Executive Branch of government, which, of course, reports to the President.

Somewhat OT.

I just got an email from my dear friends in a former Soviet Bloc country assuring me that if the bans in the USA take effect, they'll be happy to send me my e-cig supplies, McDonald's Happy Meal toys, snus, and anything else our government deems inappropriate for the citizenry, upon request.

Who would have thought it would come to this...

I'm so glad I professed my affection for you BEFORE there could have been any reason to suspect ulterior motives... :D ;)

I think not many people even know about ECF, and the two videos at the V4L website
( here: https://store.vapor4life.com/Articles.asp?ID=136 ) each mentioned a different forum:

e-cigaretteforum.com and
e-cigarette-forum.com

The first one is a smaller forum, I didn't go to that one, but I will probably be browsing it soon as well. Are you all over there as well  ?

I've mailed and called all of the NY senators who are on the health committee, which is where this one will go next, and my home state. But meanwhile, the Feds may indeed be truly gearing up. This has been looming for a long time, and it's difficult to anticipate if urgent has now become super-urgent at that level, but it doesn't look particularly happy.

As for nanny-state, I'd take that issue by issue. I don't want e coli in my food, or undue smog in my air, or ingredient-unlabeled food products, or lead in my paint, or asbestos in my lungs, or legalized crack, or dangerous meds; regulation to protect public safety needs to be there and it's nonsense to attack that whole cloth. It just has to be sensible, properly informed, politically disinterested, and sane. The FDA also needs to regulated effectively; pharma and other lobbies have massive and deeply corrupt clout. Rotsa ruck on that one. There aren't enough people interested in this issue to mobilize a very formidable resistance, and not enough $$, but we can and should try.
