  • PG has been used as the aqueous-based chemical additive in asthma inhalers and nebulizers since the 1950s, with no serious side effects known. PG, because of its water-retaining properties, is the compound of choice for delivering atomized medication. It is also a common diluent for injectable medications, constituting 40 percent of the intravenous form of Phenytoin, an anti-seizure drug.

so when you have asthma and have a attack you vape to help keep it under control and it has been used for so many years so i know most of these people that come out and say it is bad for you don't know jack s#$t about this. i had asthma so i knew because i had to vape between 6 to 10ml a day

your title suggests you had a recent encounter with a doctor telling you vaping is bad for you ?

one thing we do know - the ingredients in e-juice are all recognized as safe and used in food and pharmacuticals. (sorry for the bad spelling). we dont know the long term effects of using some of these ingredients in the way we use them. PG, while used in medicines, may not have been tested as a vapor by the heating method we use. I know my own nebulizer works by forcing air over the medication to produce evaporation. Its a slightly different method to produce similar effects but heating the pg could do something to it we are unaware of.

I suspect your doctor isnt lying as much as giving an opinion based on the knowledge he has - that knowledge may be incomplete and it may come from sources that are specifically anti- ecig- or not. In any case, only YOU can make choices for yourself. No matter what your doctor says or does - its all about YOU. So ignore the nay sayers and keep doing your own research.

My oncologist must be enlightened. When I told him about e-cigarettes he was all for it. He flat out told me he doesn't care about nicotine intake. It's all the other stuff and the products of combustion and the solid particulate nature of cigarette smoke that he's against. And his specialty is cancers of the lung and throat, though I had a "mild" case of colon cancer.

It is interesting that asthma inhalers and nebulizers use compressed air or dry powder. Neither heat the PG into a vapor/condensate 1st. That's one big difference right there. Then there's the other chemicals besides PG... nic, stuff in trace amounts that come with it, flavorings, VG, etc.

This is harm reduction. We don't know the long term effects yet. That said, it looks very promising. Most studies that we see are pretty encouraging particularly in comparison to cigs. So........

Almost any doctor will tell you clean air is best. Also no-nic is better than nic the same way that no-caffeine is better than caffeine (a generality here...not dealing with treating specific things). Most will concede that they'd much rather have someone vaping than smoking. So I guess it depends on the context. Also his/her goal/expectation for you.

In the end, YOU have to try to do the least harm to yourself. However, we lack full long-term data so it's a bit of a crap-shoot.

What I find most interesting about vaping is, the fact I can put it down, even for days at a time and not go bonkers like I would with cigarettes. I tend to use my PV more at work, as I dont like to keep the stuff at home with a little one running arround. I go the whole weekend without vaping...I do miss it though when I have a glass of wine :)

I could never be one of those casual smokers (ya know the ones who constantly bum smokes off you when you hang out with them, but never buy their own). I always found that would lead to full time smoking again after each time I stop. I use mine when I feel like it, if Im haning out with smokers, I'm not at all tempted anymore which I think is a huge thing. (plus the smell does suck, and well the taste does too).

My Dr is kind of funny about vaping...he doesnt approve telling me to just "drop it" but he's never really offered an opinion about it other than yeah, air is better for your lungs, so if you stopped smoking why do you need that? To which reply, hey whatever keeps me off the real things, Doc...

Well hopefully we are not totally screwing up our lungs from some new form of something that may not be cancer or heart afflicting either.
