Yeah. The details apparently exist, but the writer is choosing not to actually look at them while posting pics of JUULs to attempt to imply it was a tiny pod vape that did this. Smells off to me.

There’s a lot of really really bad and deliberately partial information going around lately. Axes are being ground with little or no interest as to what is actually true.

I still say "Fake news". Fake News means a so-called journalist using words to create a specific reaction that coincides with their own opinion or an opinion that matches a popular opinion. Possibly shape public opinion through innuindo's.
The Fox version shows photos meant to achieve that goal. In this case it seemed meant to create an opinion that a juul is going to blow your face off... Fake News.

And frankly I'm not interested in creating an account to read the nejm version.

I want to see before picture's of the teen's teeth. Because if he gets free implants (I am guessing he will) he may come out of this STUPIDER but better looking.

Perhaps a stealth vasectomy is also in order.

I don't mean to be hateful. But this is how I cope. Also, as someone who has had dentures for OVER A DECADE, while it ain't always fun, it's probably better than if he had it next to his reproductive equipment....

Unless we are really, really working the vasectomy angle. Also the "no sex" angle. Also the "when you make a mistake-- consequences" angle.

Even I don't want that, he's a TEEN.

I'd put in a couple bucks for the implants but only if it meant it could not be reported on other than "Caring vapers band together to help an idiot teen."

I don’t think there is such a thing as a stealth vasectomy. There’s a reason people who have one sit on the couch looking miserable with a bag of frozen peas on their junk for several days.

Virtually all the injuries relate to unprotected batteries whether they are loose in a pocket or in a mod with no protections. When a plane crashes we are interested in the cause of the crash, not the injuries. It would be a public service if the media explained what caused these accidents. It's easy to nearly eliminate the risk. The news media is just another one of the swamps that needs draining.

Now if only there was some group that actually wanted to do that instead of merely loudly claiming to while simultaneously making them even worse

Caveat emptor.

Mom bought junior a mech mod, with likely neither one having even basic instruction on battery selection, battery safety or selection and preparation of a suitable atomizer.

The VGOD packaging warns the buyer about the potential dangers of using the device improperly. So, why didn't he follow the instructions? For the same reason people light fuse and don't get away.

So it's a VGod - has anyone confirmed that it's a mech? I'm assuming so, because I've yet to see any injuries occur with any non-mech. I'm sure something has happened, somewhere, but....Pocket fire, auto fire, etc., but none of the "exploding" stories.

And if it was a mech, why are they referring to it as a vape "pen" - usually a term associated with herb, etc." Never mind, I know why.

it's a remarkable triangular entanglement

(A) Chinese manufacturers who think it's your sole responsibility what happens to their device once they gave it to you.

(B)
Western adults who automatically assume that absolutely any all manufacturers whose products reach the western hemisphere, play by the same rulebook which the companies in the West have to play by, if they don't want to face silly but ruinous class action law suits all the time.

(C)
Precious younglings, who have a natural, age- and upbringing-based, disposition towards believing that the world, and everything in it, will magically bow to their will if they only believe in it for long enough. Fake it till you make Ohm's law go away ^^.
What could possibly go wrong

And IMHO this is the major reason why politicians and media don't like ecigs. It's not that they actually believe that ecigs are genuinely any more dangerous than other products - it's just that the ones who rule the roost, the chinese, cannot easily be forced to comply with the existing political and economical power structures in our western markets. Too effin baaaad ^^

I feel bad for VGOD.
They're a US based company. They'll be sued out of existence pretty soon or somehow become the FDA's new boogeyman in their anti-vape propaganda endeavours.

Ok, many of you won't like this but I see something that the cigarette community defends cigarettes and the vaping community defends vaping and don't even like to go into details and just assume that if a mishap happens its because of the negligence or wrong use of the product by the user. We have seen many instances where mobile phone batteries explode even when everything was fine from the user end. A battery can explode without doing anything wrong. Its rare but not impossible.

Then I see everyone is bashing the mom because her boy is underage. Yes I do agree he is underage but somehow he got into smoking and his Mom tried to find a substitute for him. Please note I never support underage vaping or smoking but I see the scenario here and what else his mom could have done other than buying him a vape device. Yes its her fault that she didn't do deep research before buying the right device for him but isn't some fault of the vape shop also? Obviously that woman was not given the right device she required.

I see there is no sympathy for this boy or his Mom and both are being constantly bashed by vaping community in that article's comment section. We are human beings and we can do mistakes. There are many members here who started smoking when they were underage. It can happen.

Again I say we need our own governing body like FDA which can give certificate to a product when it is launched for public. In this way we ll be sure that we are having tested and certified products. Vaping is 95 percent safer than smoking but I would love to see it regulated by some governing body. I know mostly will not agree with me but I believe we need it to be safe alternative forever and if it is not regulated we may see more such incidents in future because of lack of user knowledge and lack of product safety. We are bound to use batteries which are not even produced by manufacturer for vape mods. We need our own authentic tested batteries which can handle things like shock to device or which have auto shut down mechanism if they get hot.

Again I repeat I don't support underage smoking but I am against this attitude to blame everything on the user.
