The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask.

Maybe your atomizer is getting dry and that's why you're getting the burning plastic smell. I would try cutting the filler in about half, put one of the halves back in the cart and try again. Sometimes too much filler is stuffed in there during manufacturing, which would explain the reason for needing to top off so much.

Perhaps you have not given enough information. What hardware are you using? I don't know if that has anything to do with the problems you are having, but, maybe someone else will know. Anyway, have you tried using a bent paperclip to push the filling over to one side of the cart while adding liquid? If you don't do this air traped in the cart will prevent the liquid from filling it. Check Youtube for demos on refilling carts

YouTube - e-cigarette cartridge refill

There are a bunch of videos I hope they help. As to the burning plastic, maybe your atty is going dry very quickly due to not enough liquid in the cart.

Hope this helps.

I'm having the same issue. I got a newJoye 510 and can only get 4-5 drops or so in - I assume you got the same or similar model. If I attempt to get more in I get juice dripping out the end. Is this an issue with a new cart? I ordered them blank. No burning plastic issues here though. Not trying to jump your thread ... just looking for the same answers.

Definitely four or five drops is not the typical amount for filling a cart. Allyn's comment on using a paperclip is a good one. I usually use a pair of tweezers to remove the filler, the add about 11 to 12 drops in a standard 510 cart, put the filler back in with my fingers or the tweezers, add a couple more drops so that the top looks wet. Then, it is good to go and will usually last me a couple of hours or so.
But there is a lot of variance in the type of cart as to how much it will hold. 306 carts hold very very little. 510s more than twice as much. 801s hold more than twice as much again. Do you know the make/type of your ecig?

On a 510, look into the open end of the atty, there is a white "oval" surrounding the bridge/silver wick; this is approximately the same shape as the open end of the cart. When inserting the cart into the atty be sure to line it up with the "oval" inside the atty. If you have something other that a 510 please let us know what type of ecig u are using.

I also recently found out with my 510 atty when you look in it the bridge was not in the center and was more toward one side! You can take something small like a small pair of eyeglass screwdriver or maybe a pair of tweezers and "GENTLY" push the bridge back to the center! Just be careful to not tear the mesh that's over it! Once I got mine centered haven't had any problem with carts melting and seldom pay attention to how I put the cart in!
Hope that helps!

nice tip. need to check mine.

You guys are awesome, thanks!!

I'm using a Riva 510 now and only had trouble when I changed the filler. I wasn't sure how many drops were needed as I've always only been able to put in between 4-6 since I got the kit. I didn't realize that I was supposed to get much more than that until I read a review for the Riva.

So I can put juice into the cart without the fill then replace the filler and put in a couple of more drops? Yay!!

I thought I was going crazy over here...thanks to you all for the answers!! :D

Oh..the carts were juice-free but filled with the fiber already.

And typically 6-8 drops would be more like it since the stuffing takes some space and I think the 510 carts hold .5 ml
When I was using the blue foam I used to be able to get around 20 drops in a 510 cartridges.
But then my drops might be a bit smaller than others since I was using 3ml bottles.

The nice thing about the blue foam was that I also didn't have to push the filler aside, or mess with it in any way to refill.
As long as I dripped my drops on the edge, the whole thing could be filled up with no further efforts on my part.

Thanks DC2!

I was terrified I was going to overfill the cart and ruin it. Whew! I took the fill out a minute ago and put in about 10 drops, replaced the fill, and put another 4 on top of that. Hope that works.

P.S. Man, that totally changed the vapor! Holy crud!! Choked myself a bit. :) All is good now. :D

Okay, I'm getting totally frustrated now. I started with a different cart, took out the filler, put about 10 drops in, replaced fill and added 3 drops and the taste is so harsh that it's burning my throat. What have I done wrong?? (It's a Riva 510) I also checked to make sure the bridge is straight and checked the white oval in the atty to make sure the cart lines up correctly. Argh!!
