E-cigs are not complicated at all. Reading all the info here is what makes it complicated. One person will order a 510 and when he gets it it does not work. Then he orders an 801 and it works fine. Then he ends up posting some thread saying that the 510 is a piece of garbage and tells everyone not to order it. Then he says the 801 is the greatest e-cig ever made because it works for him.

Another guy buys an 801 and it does not work. Then he buys a 510 and it works great. Then he slams the 801 and says how wonderful it is.

And so on and so on.

The bottom line is that they are all good. the problem is that all manufacturers make some defects and if you are the unlucky person to get one, then you think that model sucks.

My recommendation to any noob is to just pick one. Pick anyone, it does not matter which one, just pick one. Also order some juice as well, or you will be sorry that the carts that came with the kit dint last as long as you think it will.

My only other recommendation is to buy from a reputable dealer so if you do get a bad one, they will gladly replace it without any problems. I have ordered from many of the vendors that support this site and have not had a problem with any of them. It seems like all of them are probably good to order from. Don't order from some advertisement you heard on tv, radio, or magazine. It seems like those companies have the worst customer service.

Lastly, when you get your e-cig, practice smoking with it. Smoking an e-cig is a little different than an analog cig. You will get used to it and you will enjoy it. The taste of the juice will also be a little odd at first, but eventually you will love it.

Great advice.

It took two weeks of looking through the forum and watching videos before I made my first purchase and I started looking the week the FDA posted it's report.

With all due respect to the senior forum members, the sheer amount of information can be overwhelming when you are considering your first purchase.

I still remember thinking WTF is a screwdriver and wow, is it ugly or what? Now, an SD is a thing of beauty to me.

From the OP:

Oh and btw I was going to come back to the thread and delete it cause I felt like a ****, but you guys tottally hooked me up thank you!

'Nuff said.

Its a vapers thing, you wouldnt understand....

JUST PLAYING!!!! I think you must know, that to a smoker going vaperer, there are many choices and it can become overwhelming. HOWEVER, start with something easy like a 510 or similar, cartomiser set, whatever. Most get thier first device, then learn more n more and somehow, whether its to occupy our minds away from cigs or simply bc its fun, vaping becomes a hobby. Much like a car/stamp collector, we yearn to try the latest model and collect...each modification or different device certainly serves its purpose.

PLEASE please please, dont get discouraged bc these things truely ARE amazing, magical devices. With that said, I hope you do make the switch and become active here on the forum bc thats what makes it fun...sharing ideas, stories of success(whether its quitting analogs or modding) and talking amungst those with a similar background-ex-smoker style.

It feels good to overcome such an obsticle and Im confident you too, are one of us, its just a matter of giving it all a try.

:)

I have no idea what to do with all this that is thrown at me. I'm trying to read all the noob threads but its just made me less inclined to buy one of these.
I was excited about getting one...now im not. I tried posting in other forums ... was not aloud to are you kidding me?

I was going to get a 510.
Cherry flavored cartriges.
Then I read about cartomizers ... the hell is that.

Cleaning wicks and buying new ones?!

And I wanted to buy redbull flavored liquid ... then saw propelyn glycol ... and theres recipes and ess like that. The hell is going on?

Anyone willing to try and make me want this thing again?

I'm going outside to have a cig...sites stressed me out haha

Flavors: you get 5 carts usually with a tobacco flavor and you said you like menthol so you should get a menthol juice (i hear they're not the same as analog menthols but they are just as delicious).

i'm a noob myself but i wanted to stay away from tobacco flavors so i don't get reminded of what i'm missing so i bought two fruit flavors (grape and cherry), and some beverage flavors (TOTAL COFFEE-HOLIC so i went for french vanilla coffee, cafe mocha tobacco, coffee and coke) And a desert flavor (chocolate). As i started to vape i accidentally mixed up my cart and ended up dropping some cherry into my coke cart and wound up with cherry coke and was REALLY good!

Have fun with it. Try sample bottles, most sites have a sample juices where you can try out little bits of different flavors.

you can try out: Freedom Smokes Sampler Where they let you choose six different flavors and you can choose 10ml bottles or 20ml bottles. you can have them each one by one or try mixing and matching to get even more flavors.

^^ best of luck!!!

I know all the different choices can be overwhelming but you still have to take responsibility for doing research and getting the product that is best for you.

As for making you want one: you could be vaping as you chat on your computer rather than sitting outside shivering with your analog.

One of the best things about starting with an e-cig is the fact that the learning curve is very, very fast. Deschain's advice early on in this thread was probably the best. Get what you feel is what you like, in looks, price, whatever. It will work. Once you make the jump and begin, it all starts to make much more sense.
You don't have to go overboard. My wife and I haven't. I have no idea how some people have so much money to spend on so many types and toys. We didn't have much money to invest in starting up and we still don't. But, the money you will save, if you move carefully, will be enough to leave some change in your pocket and add to your vaping supplies. We've kept a running account since we began and the nearly $2,000 we would have spent on regular cigarettes (analogs) has been cut in half!

Like a lot of people here, I bought my first ecig before I saw these forums so it took the pressure of reading too much about them off. I ended up giving that one to my wife, its straight forward and works for her. Its an evo and she ended up liking the stock cart flavor. Being a gadget junkie I went and bought a 510 and all kinds of different e-juice to try and sample packs are the way to go. I've since added to my collection of e-stuff and like to try new mods and styles. You don't have to spend a ton or get involved with modding your carts or direct dripping etc. unless you want to, and when your ready there are tons of posts to help you navigate that.

Keep it simple to start, research your supplier and when you find the model you want go for it. I would suggest getting at least 2 batteries, 2 attys and 10 prefilled carts and a small bottle of juice to top up so you don't run out. Make sure you get a charger and if you don't work in an office you might have trouble if your kit is a usb only kit get a mains charger or adapter.

Good luck

Wow! Lots of overwhelming info in this thread alone lol... I am also a newb to vaping. Long time smoker trying to quit. I bought my nPro before I found this site and I think I made I made a pretty good choice. Resonably priced seems sturdy and leaves me not caring if I have an "analog" or not. 2 questions... 1) I have order juice and am curious how to tell when i have added enough? 2) Why does it seem like I am ALWAYS having to charge it? I get about 2 hours of vaping tops.

Thanks for all the good info...

Hi Sunny! I'm new too and all the information that I've read is overwhelming. However, first things first. No one can make you want to try vapping. That's a choice you'll have to make on your own.

Secondly, yes, there is a lot of information on vapping. Here's what I did to help me.

1. I read through the forums to get an idea of what vapping was all about.
2. When I realized it was something I wanted to try, I also realized that being new, a
starter kit was the way to go.
3. I made a list what kind of smoker I am - heavy, 1-2 packs a day, mostly at the
computer, tendency to light a smoke, put it out, re-light etc.
4. This helped me to decide what I wanted from an e-cig.
5. I listed all the brands that came close to my expectations.
6. Then I listed what extras I would need to suit me.
7. Researched the brands and started narrowing it down.
8. When I decided on the DSE901 starter kit, I went price comparison shopping. Who
could give me the most for my money, plus service.
8. Then I placed my order

You have to understand that there is no right or wrong with what you choose. You are choosing to suit your needs, not someone else's. Also, as with any new venture, there is a learning curve. You did that when you started smoking - how to inhale and not puff, how to hold a cig, how to carry it, what brand you preferred, how much you're willing to pay etc.

Now, take a deep breath, think about what you want and go shopping!!!

Lots of good info in this thread, but I have a couple more tips for ya.

I started with a 510, and I think that's a very good model to start with assuming you want to deal with the filling of carts. It's definitely more work than analogs, but it turns from a chore into a hobby rather quickly.

I was a menthol smoker, so I ordered a ton of menthol juice with some other flavors mixed in. It turns out that almost four months later, I have most of that menthol juice still sitting in my drawer. Experiment with flavors, and don't overstock yourself with a certain flavor juice until you know it's what you really like. Vaping isn't smoking, so you won't necessarily want to stick to menthol.

And the final tip - when you finally do get your kit, your atomizer will taste like something awful. Don't get discouraged by this. They are filled with primer to keep them from drying up in storage. You'll want to blow this primer out. There are quite a few threads on here that will help you out with this.

Good luck!

1) I have order juice and am curious how to tell when i have added enough?

When you see liquid pooling at the top, you've added the right amount. Dab any excess off with a tissue/napkin/whatever and you're good to go.

2) Why does it seem like I am ALWAYS having to charge it? I get about 2 hours of vaping tops.

I'm not sure what the nPro model is, but charging batteries is one of the hardest things to get used to. This is why a lot of people will upgrade to a battery mod (prodigy, chuck, silver bullet, GG, etc) at some point in their vaping career.

See bolded answers above.
