The negative thought is that placing a Lithium battery charger in a bag which is unventilated can cause heat and inadvertantly cause the charger or battery to catch fire or explode -- defeating the purpose of using the bag.

Correct, heat and moisture.
Heat threshold is important in maintaining battery life. Even if not a High risk, it is a higher risk.

I have posted this before, but it really does offer piece of mind for less than $10.

It needs a hole for the cord. I think an old ammo box will do also...

Well that steel case does have a hole for the cord.

Seems like an amazing idea! I never thought about my ecigs exploding while being charged...the amount of times I've let it charge overnight assuming it'd be fine because the circuit gets cut off. No more of that :|

Ok, hard to tell from the pic. Usually lock boxes are fireproof, so no holes.
I leave them charging all the time. I have the charger on thick weight mat in the vape room, though, which I'm pretty sure is fire resistant..,

I Leave my batteries charging while I sleep, right next to my head on a nightstand. Guess I'll stop that right now. I'm thinking ammo can with a computer fan mounted at the top and vent on the opposite side for heat control.

Now that's a good idea and have plenty of old but working PC fans around.

Or just place your Batts in the right direction, flush mounted to the contacts and well seated in your charger and you can leave them on there, plugged in, for weeks and weeks with zero issue.

One in, one out? Probably overkill, but they're Stupid simple to install/wire and it would keep the contents cool. Would that add "fuel" the fire so to speak if a charger or battery went .... up in the can?

I didn't even think that far ahead.

I just read ammo can and PC fans if done right it would look awesome. And usually I don't need much more reason than that to build something. :D

A PC case that looks like an ammo can would sell well. *Runs off to file patent?*

Even if it doesn't have a hole nothing a power drill can't fix. :thumb:
Yea, I drilled out a hole big enough to get the adapter through.

I know it is complete over-kill, and I have been through hundreds of charge cycles without issue. Electronics have a funny way of failing when you least expect it though, and these batteries have to potential to be pretty volatile. It is a simple, inexpensive solution to a potentially large, and very expensive, problem.

I'm undecided about battery charging bags. These were designed for use with LiPo batteries/chargers for the remote control crowd. The LiPo batteries are not placed in a box charger like Lithium batteries are; the batteries are connected via wire connectors and placed in the charging bag, and the charger (the heat producing item) remains outside the bag. The negative thought is that placing a Lithium battery charger in a bag which is unventilated can cause heat and inadvertantly cause the charger or battery to catch fire or explode -- defeating the purpose of using the bag.

I've read the same thing about heat in charging bags.

My LUC 2 has reverse battery protection too.

I have a battery sitting here waiting to be rewrapped. The wrap has come away on part of the positive end, exposing a 1/4" long strip of the top of the side wall. It's a flat top HE2. So the positive contact and the exposed end of the sidewall are almost flush.

The OP picture does look like the battery might have been put in backwards. I was looking at the battery and looking at the charger. If the sliding contact was just a little bit bent it could easily touch both the positive pin and the sidewall if the wrap was torn like mine is. In that situation it wouldn't matter what protection the charger had. You would have a dead short. It could have been not quite touching and then a slight bump moved something.

The way the slider is bent up the battery might have been pushed up quickly and broken the short.

It could happen at the positive end of the charger too I guess. But it's easier to see the neg sliding contact getting bent.

Not saying that's what happened here, but it could happen this way. I'll be checking my wraps carefully from now on before I stick a battery in the charger.

Yes I would think so. Fire needs air so adding a couple of pc fans would make it go up quicker than a three month old Christmas tree.
