Yes I would think so. Fire needs air so adding a couple of pc fans would make it go up quicker than a three month old Christmas tree.
It could be done safely with some thought. The fans could use a fusible link inside the box connecting them to their power source, fire would melt the fusible link and kill the fans, then the halon system would activate and extinguish the fire .:)

Not familiar with a halon system. You would still have air venting through the fans even without them running though. Just seems like an awful lot of effort when the same could be achieved by just keeping an eye on the batteries while they are charging and not charging while you are away or asleep. Good ideas regardless though.

Commercial fire suppression systems, restaurants, labs, etc. I was joking with that one.

Robs Air of Oxygen. Fastest acting extinguisher I have ever seen.
It's fun to watch the cooks get covered . In a former life I was a lowly dishwasher, the cooks caught the grill on fire and released the halon system. Scared everyone and the owners weren't happy because it costs a pretty penny to recharge the system. IT did put the fire out right now though, ruined a lot of steak and shrimp too.

I have posted this before, but it really does offer piece of mind for less than $10.

Its not a good idea to have the one hole in the box inches away from a wall. If anything caught on fire in that box it would shoot the flame out that hole catching your wall on fire. I would turn that box 180 degrees.

I'm not sure - I received it in July of this year. Screenshot of the documentation.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
1. While the Samsung 25r is supposedly a good battery, I find the wrapping on them to be thinner than I expect from a good name brand battery. Anytime a battery has even the slightest sign of wear, I rewrap it. In fact, some of my batteries are double wrapped but some mods might have too tight a space to accept a double wrapped battery.

2. Looks to me like you may have put the battery in the charger backwards since it is the positive side of the battery that looks charred and the negative side of the charge port on the charger that looks charred, as others have stated. I have a LUC 4 and it does have reverse battery protection, however, it's not a good idea to trust these things. Always make sure batts are inserted correctly.

I hope the OP chimes in here on this thread again soon to confirm whether or not he/she thinks the battery was inserted backwards.

Ok It's speak my mind time again

I doubt it was the Samsung 25r batteries, as soon as I saw the Efest luv4 that was all I needed to see, I wouldn't trust that charger at all. I had one and the led screen went all weird and was reading the battery as empty when it was fully charged and was still pumping charge into it, the batteries got really hot and if I hadn't of noticed it then it would of been me posting pictures like this. I'm sure some have used them fine but their QC sucks.. I would never bring one of those into my house again..Efest, Im so glad you don't make your own batteries !!
The quality of the charger and the metal sliders are junk, the whole thing sinks of cheap unsafe production lines with the end result being this.

I now realize your avatar is a cloud, but for a long time I thought it was a cockatoo.

I'm late to this party but here goes...

    - It does look like there was no insulating ring protecting the top of the cell.
    - I also agree that the cell was put in reversed.
    - I don't think that the charger failed in any way here. Without the top insulating ring the "button" on the negative terminal in the charger could easily short the battery.
    - Since the LUC V4 supports charging of 26650 cells an 18650 can easily be placed in the bay off-center. This makes it much more likely that the negative terminal of the charger (and perhaps even the positive one too) could short the positive cell cap and negative cell case together if the insulating ring was missing.
    - The reverse-polarity protection probably worked perfectly here...to protect the charger. There was nothing any different charger could do here because the cause was limited to the shorting of the battery due to its insulating ring being gone.

Hmm...actually, perhaps a different profile for the negative terminal on the charger could have prevented this. But it sure is an example of why keeping a cell properly wrapped, with its insulating ring, can be very important! And not just in our mods. Glad that nothing more serious happened!
