so my e-cig battery died tonight and I did not have another one charged so I resorted to smoking a regular cig. My analog cig of choice was Marlboro Smooths and I used to really enjoy smoking them. Anyway, I lit up, enhaled and thought I was going to 1. cough to death and 2. vomit. Is this normal? I have only been smoking e cigs for 2 days so thought it would be nothing to smoke a regular cigarette. Anyone else experienced this and is this something I should worry about health wise?

I think that is good news. I know in the past when I've quit smoking, when I would slip up and smoke it made me very nauseated. I think it is the poison they put in there that does it ;-} I've not tried a cigarette since July when I started vaping. I'm afraid it would get me hooked on cigs again! Plus, now when I am tempted to smoke a cigarette, I KNOW I would get nauseated.

Yes, I think this is normal. I've heard about this before.

This happened to me. Vaped for 6 wks without a cig. Batts died. Opened a pack of Pall Malls and had the same experience you had. Funny things was...during that 6 weeks I was really really really wanting a real Pall Mall cig. It proved to me I was never going to smoke a cig again. I knew then that I was finished with cigs forever. Once I realized that, I was thrilled!

What about this event would be concerning to your health? Was there something else that happened? Did you get chest pains or pass out? Explain, please.

I really enjoyed this story, because I share a similar experience. I was three days into vaping and my sister had come over. She smokes Smooths and offered me one. Now I had no desire to smoke one, but was a little curious how it tasted after not smoking for a few days, so I went outside with her for a cigarette. Took me about 2 drags from it before I put it out and came back in. It was nothing like I remember it tasting, so much worse. The good news out of it all is that I let my sister try my eGo and she wants to get one when she gets the extra money!

Hi Paula. I did not get a chest pain or pass out. I just have other health issues so I tend to worry a bit when I feel out of sorts. I will explain. I am currently on partial FMLA at work due to asthma (main reason I am quitting the analogs and went to a PV), diabetes and migraines. I was just asking for feedback from my experience to, I suppose, give me reassurance that I was not going to put myself into a heart attack or something like that by smoking an analog after I have been vaping for 2 days. I realize that those responding are most likely not physicians and I was not looking for a medical diagnosis, just fellow vapors possible common experience and how they handled it or what effect it had on them.

The fact that after 6 weeks of vaping and then having a analog, you new you never wanted one again is very encouraging to me. I appreciate you posting that.

OK, Tam. Thanks for the clarification. As you can see from the few replies here, your reaction to a cigarette is pretty typical for a new vaper. I'm willing to be there are 300 people in this forum that could attest to the same experience you just had.

I can fully understand your concern with vaping and then trying to smoke a cigarette. Some of the Smoking Cessation products on the market today specify NOT TO HAVE a cigarette while using those products. Your concern is well-founded and very legitimate. There should be no problem with you vaping and have a real cigarette.

There are many people who both smoke cigarettes and vape. I have not heard about any adverse affects when smoking and vaping. Some people smoke and only vape when they are in bars, or work, etc. Some of us started vaping and dropped cigarettes the same day. Others need more time in dropping the cigarettes. Some have no intention of dropping the cigarettes. Each person seems to have a similar - yet different - experience.

I hope this helps. Wishing you ALL THE BEST. Look forward to reading more of your messages.

Despite the obvious and unfortunate discomforts of that situation, it's pretty awesome how obvious it makes the difference in what cigs do to you physically compared to vaping. It's odd though, I stopped smoking for 2 months before starting vaping, and have been vaping without smoking for around 5 months, so around 7 months cig-free. About two weeks ago I was pretty sauced and took two drags off of my friend's turkish royal and... it was delicious. lol. Kinda pointed out the small aspect of the actual taste of smoking that vaping doesn't emulate. Haven't tried it again since then. But it just occured to me that maybe a part of what makes people nauseated and such when they light up a cig again is the butane, assuming they're using a lighter, and that they aren't in the habit of not inhaling that first butane-y drag. Shrugs. Grats on making the switch don't ever look back! Especially now that you know what that crap does to you- it really show that cigs only ever didn't FEEL horrible because we were USED to smoking them, not because it wasn't poisoning us with every drag.
