I have been slowly lowering my nic level for awhile now. I have been going down by 1 mg about every 3 weeks. I have had a few bumps in the road along the way like when I went from 16 down to 15 I went batty for 3 days and again going down from 13 to 12. I am at 12 now and am staying here for a good while to really let my body adjust. I am interested in hearing from others who are trying to lower their nic. How are you going about it? Are you suffering at all? Do you intend to quit vaping when you get to 0? What is your goal nic #? I don't know what I will do if I get to 0. I guess I have to get their 1st and see what happens.

I am a bit of an odd duck.

I started vaping 2 weeks ago at 12 mg and it was too strong for me. I had been a pack a day ultralight smoker. SO I bought some duplicate juices at 6 mg and mixed them giving me 8 mg. No problems at all. Never had a serious analog craving. Not one.

Now I am out of the 12 mg juice to mix and am just vaping 6 mg. No cravings at all.

I honestly have no idea WHY I am not having issues. I should be. I always have in the past. In fact the only oddness I am suffering through is very weird dreams. :p

This was my experience as well, what do you dream about? I'm serious, since I started vaping I have the same recurring dream...:matrix:

I'm at 6mg, and when I chain I go to 3mg....

Well, I actually started out at 6mg on a cig-a-like back in Oct. While it was not great - it did get me down to 3/4 cigarettes a day. I then found ECF and realized that I had started with way too low on the nic and that there were much better devices to be had. I was smoking a carton a week of extra mild cigarettes when I first tried vaping to see if it could help me cut down I actually had no intention of quitting

So, I ordered an eGo Twist kit and some 18mg juice and the day they arrived I did not even have the one cigarette a day I was down to. Found I could barely tolerate that 18mg juice so I lowered to 15mg on my next order. I stayed with that for probably 2 months and then lowered to 12mg.

At that point I got started in DIY and I started mixing at 12 and 10mg. So right now I actually have a fair amount of 12mg and 10 mg and I rotate thru these depending on how I feel. However, I am finding that most often the 12mg is to high now and I can only vape it for a little while and then I have to use the 10mg. So today when I mixed up a new flavor to try - I actually made it up at 8mg. So probably two months at mostly 12mg and the last month at mostly 10mg.

For a short time I did wonder if I actually even needed the nic - or if it was just the habit. So I mixed up some 0 nic about 3-4 weeks ago and just vaped that for a day. Found that while I did not crave a cigarette - I was generally pretty cranky and felt out of sorts for most of the day. However, I did find out that I do still need the nic - but it does seem like I am able to keep lowering without any major issues.

I too am not sure what will happen or if I will even get to 0 nic so like the OP I will just have to see what happens when I get there.

I have been going way too slow with the weaning process, but I am weaning a bit.

My first bottle was 18 mg, and it was so tasty I was chain vaping and I was getting nic sick. Next I went to 12, and I was quite happy there for quite a while. I quickly discovered DIY-in about the first month of vaping-so when I realized I had been at 12 mg a very, very long time, I went to 8 mg. I didn't feel like I could make the leap all the way to 6 mg. Now I am contemplating 6 mg. It again has been a while and I need to try to wean some more. I do want to get to 0 mg, I want to break the physical addiction. Then I will consider the psychological addiction.

With all that said though, if I can't break either addiction I will happily vape for the rest of my life. It's better than smoking!

The dreams are strange but sort of all over the place with subject matter rather than one that recurs. It is always difficult for me to describe dreams. I wake and think oh wow that was bizarre and by the time I do that exactly what the dream was about is gone.

Guess I am the exception here. I was smoking 2 pks a day for the last 36yrs. Started vaping 2 mos ago. Started out at 24mg nic since I was such a heavy smoker. Just ordered a bottle of my all day vape in 18mg. Could tell a difference. I was edgy and after 2mos with no cigs it was the first time I wanted one. Did not give in to the urge and hate to have to go back up to 24mg nic. I pretty much chain vape all day long. About to order another 100ml bottle and debating on what nic I should order. Probably will go with 18mg again and just tough it out. Give myself some time to adjust to the decrease. Hoping in time to decrease down more but don't think I will ever stop vaping all together.

I had 24 and 18 when I started out. I didn't really pay attention to which one I grabbed. My next order I place was 18 and 15. Again never payed attention to which nic level. Pretty soon some were really feeling harsh. So I looked at the bottle and it was the 18 that was harsh. Next order was 15 and 12. Doing the same thing. Do both without looking so my mind doesn't have a chance to rebel. ;)

Now I'm at all 12 but I think I will be going the next step down. That one scares me because my vendor goes to 6 as the next lowest.
I will try it next order and see if I can fake out my brain. If not, I will combine them to give me 9, just dont let my mind know....shhhhh it may think I'm giving it 12.

Do you guys get a good consistent throat hit at those levels? Im wondering if i drop at some point if eventually ill start feeling it. Its the only reason ive failed when attempting to lower my nic before

From my own experience, plus what I have read here and on other vaping fourms from other long time vapers, the lower the nicotine level, the weaker the throat hit. Nicotine provides 90% of throat hit. For the majority, you just can't get good throat hit on low nic level liquid. And additives do NOT provide throat hit. Some additives (like pepper) provide throat irritation but not the throat hit provided by nicotine. I went from 36mg down to 16mg. Using a variable wattage PV and dual coil cartomizers provides warmer vapor which enhances throat hit and has helped me reduce the nic levels. I doubt I could drop much lower than this and would just quit altogether instead.

I was a very heavy 43 year smoker. I started at 24mg (although some test juices were at 18mg). That got me off cigs right away. After about 2 to 2 1/2 months, that was giving me all the symptoms of too much nic. So I started down rather dramatically, ordering 0mg and 6mg to cut the higher level juices. I hung around 12-15mg for awhile, but finally ended up at 9mg at about the 4-5 month mark. Been at that level every since (now at 8 months).

I also found that caffeine was having quite an effect on me, so I had to go to decaf and halfcalf coffee.

Yeah i understand the correlation between nic and TH quite well. What i was mainly curious about is if you only use say 12mg and you went down from 24mg, does the TH at 12mg become more apparent as you use lower nic as your body adjusts. The reason i question it is because if i vape 24mg for a little while, i cant feel 18mg at all, however if i havent vaped for a few hours, 18mg hits plenty hard.

Maybe I'm lucky, or just weird, but I can definitely taste the nic in my juices. Some juices mask it well enough that it's not too noticeable to me but I can taste the nicotine in my juices for the most part. I definitely get better throat hit at higher levels, but that doesn't really bother me unless I'm drinking or just stressed in general, and higher level juices typically leave a nasty taste in my mouth. Luckily I've never had a juice that was higher than 18mg strength, but most of my juices are either 18 or 11mg, mostly 11mg though, and I don't have any problems jumping from one or the other. My next few juices orders are going to be lower levels than 11, not sure what yet though.

To a degree, I think you are correct. But from my experience there is a limit to how low you can go and get much if any throat hit regardless of where you started from. I definitely saw some difference between 24 and 18 but less between 18 and 16. I tried some 12 after vaping 16 for a while and saw a bigger difference.
